Americans in London for Christmas
We spent 10 days in London/Paris for our annual family Christmas trip using this property as ‘home-base’. Jan was amazing to work with. The location is fantastic for tube access, grocery, and local neighborhood restaurants. The property is budget category- and compared to American standards we struggled. It was cozy and took some getting used to, but we managed. We left behind a standard coffee maker and several power converters (we have teenagers- 2 would have never sufficed!) for the next guests. Overall, we absolutely loved the location and working with Jan. The beds were comfy, too! If you’re looking for a luxury property this is not your booking, however, if you plan to sleep here and spend most of your time exploring all London had to offer, you can’t go wrong with this spot!
Many thanks for this great review. Glad you enjoyed your stay in London.
The owner was warm and helpful. The size is as expected and it is well stocked. But it is dowdy. It needs several repairs. It is not quite clean. The stairs are steep and narrow and difficult for elderly people. The stairs are dark and the timed light doesn’t stay on long enough. However the property is an excellent location and the owner will do her best to meet your needs.
Many thanks for taking the trouble to write this review. I'm very glad you appreciated the location and as you know I was happy to stop by every day to make sure you were all ok. I know you were surprised that the apartment didn't work like a hotel, but I assure you it isn't usual to have cleaning, bedmaking, or fresh towels every day when you book an apartment.
I was very concerned, particularly about your friends, whose infirmity made the staircase so difficult, despite the carpeting and solid bannister. I had given you a detailed description about that staircase when you booked, but I did feel, on meeting you all, that choosing a flat with a staircase was probably ill advised. It didn't surprise me that the timed light went out while you were climbing the stairs, but to be honest it would have been simple for someone to have stayed at the bottom or top and simply pressed the light again. You could also have left on the kitchen light which would have illuminated the stairs. If you had told me you were having problems with the light on the staircase I would have suggested this.
I am not aware of any repairs that are needed, and you didn't mention anything to me...? I will now double-check everything to be sure it is all in working order.
The flat is clearly listed as "Budget Category" and I am very frank and honest in my description, explaining that this is because the bathrooms and kitchen are not new. I really don't think it is fair to mark the flat down because it isn't super-modern, when this is what you booked. You also paid a much lower price because it is "Budget Category".
I have always had excellent reviews from guests who recognise that this flat is a compromise - you get a lower standard of accomodation but it is comfortable, clean, well equipped and in a fantastic central location...and of course at a much lower price.
Great place to stay in London
This was the perfect place to stay for 6 adults. Bedrooms are good sized and common area is comfortable. The location is excellent and the property owner is very responsive and leaves very clear instructions. Would definitely stay here again!
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to write this super review.
Great place , handy to everything
Excellent property for our needs.
Great area, needs more cleaning
The apartment was in a great location, close to subways and shopping/market/restaurants. Jan, the owner was a wonderful host and helped us out when we asked anything. The cleaning needed to be a bit more thorough but overall a great place.
Great location and responsive owner
It's a great budget apartment in the perfect location! Our family of 6 had a great time staying in London in this apartment. The location could not be better: walking distace from British Museum, Hop On-Hop Off Green line and all three rail stations. Russel Square underground is literally around the corner.
The owner is very nice and responsive. We had two issues during the stay, and she was quick at handling them.
I would recommend staying in this place.
Thankyou for this great review! Yes, I’m sorry about the toilet flush ( oh dear these things happen!) but glad we were able to mend it the next morning. I have a great team to help me and they are always quick to respond. At least you had the second bathroom too. Thanks for your understanding.
Our apartment is perfectly located in Bloomsbury, right in the very heart of the centre of London, so most of the sights can be reached on foot. The British Museum is just up the road, and all around you have interesting shops, cafes and restaurants ideal for a tourist visit.
This area is London at its best, with beautiful Georgian houses often arranged around a central square of garden. Some of these gardens are exquisitely planted with flower borders, trees and lawns...and best of all they are open and free to visitors.
Bloomsbury is right next to Covent Garden, Theatreland and the shopping district around Oxford Street. Hence some of the capitals most exclusive boutique hotels are to be found here.
Here are some of the places you might want to visit, with the time it will take you to walk to them...(we have walked most of these ourselves to check they are accurate) Of course, you could also take a Tube or a taxi, but by giving you the walking times you can see we are genuinely right in the middle of London....
