We absolutely loved the location on Salt Pond. Having coffee on the screened porch overlooking the Pond was perfect. The house is very well equipped (especially the kitchen) and we loved the open concept and great light. Having the beach pass for Bethany Beach was an absolute plus as it made parking at the beach so easy. The house is very well maintained and our family had a wonderful vacation! We also enjoyed hiking the nature trail just a short walk from the house.
Lastly, since we were there over July 4th, we could see all the fireworks from the deck- a real treat! We really enjoyed the house, beds were comfortable and very clean!
Phyllis's house was perfect! Very clean, beautiful (even better than the pictures portray), nestled in a quiet area, plenty of parking, kitchen well supplied, many rooms to sit and relax (large spacious living, dining area, den with French doors, and another den on third floor with a deck. There are many decks including one screened in deck, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms... It was perfect for our family including 5 grandchildren... Easy to spread out! Phyllis was very helpful and welcoming. We couldn't ask for a nicer property owner!
My friends and I love to get together for weekends away from the city and this house in Bethany Beach has become one of our favorite destinations! The house is beautiful, spacious, and has everything you could possibly need - big kitchen, many porches, an outdoor shower, and more. We especially love relaxing on the porches overlooking Salt Pond after a long day in the sun at the beach or in the morning with our coffee. The layout makes it perfect for gathering family or friends together in one place. The house sits close to the beach, but right out of the main area of town so it's nice and quiet. This was our second year staying here and we would recommend it to anyone!
House was really nice....but...Tubs poured brownish water and fine sediment, and it seemed the owner didn't believe me at first. She eventually came the next day and washed out the water heaters and it improved, for the most part. She got temporarily nicer when she saw how bad it was. Owner visited on the 2nd day claiming she needed to bring in some throw carpets. She literally stopped my children and head counted them to make sure I didn't have too many. (I paid hundreds extra for extra people, and brought exactly who was on the lease). Then she quizzed me on the count, and I told her it was the exact amount on the contract. She complained about the 4 cars I had for our agreed 14 people including 2 newborns, and I finally had to point out that there was no restriction on the contract. Then she walked in and audibly gasped because a bedroom was messy during the week's stay. In the end, she rudely emailed me that her housekeeper said we were the messiest family of the summer. I know we cleaned before we left and it looked good. We paid for the housekeeper, and hundreds extra for extra people. We have rented VRBO many times before and never had this problem. The house is nice, but the owner is not the type of person that should be renting her house. I should have known when during our first conversation, she told me that she was thinking to withhold the security deposit from the previous tenant for soiled carpets. Beware.
The home is truly lovely - modern, clean, spacious and plenty of room for 2 families. The pictures do the home justice too. The main room (kitchen, living area) is fabulous and the balcony for evening dinners is so lovely. The kitchen is well stocked with dishware, pots/pans, etc. The location is great too as its a short drive to the beach.
My issues were as follows: 1) there is no Wifi. In this day/age, if professionals are expected to rent this home for a week, being able to have access to the internet for work is important. This alone would prevent me from renting again. 2) providing paper towels and toilet paper just seems like an inexpensive way to make renters happy. None are provided. And 3) the owner was nice enough but after we left, suggested we took the key and parking pass (the latter we received in the first place), threatened to stop payment on our returned security deposit and then charge us the bank fee to do so. Ultimately, the key/parking pass had been taken by the housekeeper.
So in the end, a lovely home but the issues listed above are enough for me not to rent again.
This was a very nice, well maintained property in a quiet, gated neighborhood that is perfect for large families. The property owner was extremely helpful and easy to work with. The large, open kitchen was great for family dinners, and the 3 levels of balconies on back afforded a great view of the 4th of July fireworks in Bethany Beach. This is a modern home that is tastefully decorated and well appointed. It is a very short (3 minute) drive into town to access the public beaches in Bethany Beach, and only a couple of miles the other direction to the Indian River Inlet and State Park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return if we are back in the area again. Highly recommend.
With the ocean and bay minutes from the house, activities include swimming, surfing, fishing, crabbing, sea kayaking, boating and other water sports on the bay. Sports enthusiasts can also enjoy biking, golfing and hiking. Wide range of superb restaurants, including moderate priced and excellent higher end establishments. Tax free shopping in Delaware. 15 minute drive to Rehoboth Beach outlet shopping, Dewey Beach, Fenwick Island and Ocean City, MD.
