I grew up in San Diego but moved to the Rockies over 25 years ago. The beach has always moved my soul. One of my earliest childhood memories is going to Windansea Beach as a little girl with my family. This cottage is a welcome retreat where I rest, relax and rejuvenate from everyday life. Owning this charming home has been one of the best things I have ever done for living life to its fullest and staying connected with family, friends and everything that San Diego has to offer.

This location is absolutely perfect in everyway! It is walking distance not only to the most beautiful beach in San Diego but it is just a stroll (less than a minute walk) to restaurants and shops on La Jolla Blvd and Nautilus Street. Pearl Street is less than one mile to the north, where the heart of La Jolla Village awaits you with all it has to offer. Museums, parks, farmers markets, galleries, night life and some of the finest restaurants in San Diego. One mile south of the cottage is the little neighborhood of Bird Rock also filled with sidewalk cafes, coffee houses, bakeries and restaurants.
The cottage is fully appointed with all the comforts one would expect and then some! We even leave beach towels, bikes, beach chairs, coolers, snorkel gear and a boogie board for guests to enjoy. Be sure to check out the Zagat restaurant guide, left in the kitchen, to read about personal recommendations for great places to eat all over San Diego.
The cottage is a perfect getaway in a lovely location in southern California. We loved all the amenities of the Cottage from the parking space to kitchen necessities to make it feel like home. We absolutely had a great time and we hope to come back again and stay here! Going back east is going to be tough.
This cosy cottage is located just 2 minutes walk from Windansea beach and a 15 minute walk into central La Jolla. The cottage was nicely decorated and well laid out and had all the comforts of home, to include a very well equipped kitchen. I especially enjoyed the little decorative touches and the diffusers made the interior smell good. We stayed with our 2 boys (ages 11 and 14) who slept on the sofa bed (true to the property description was king size and very comfortable). Despite the close proximity to other homes it was very quiet. There was an off road parking space and a private patio. The agent Kathleen was there to greet us when we arrived and provide additional information about the area. The Cottage was very clean, there were plenty of towels, and all kitchen basics were provided. Especially loved that there were beach towels, beach chairs, umbrella and boogie boards provided which made our time on the beach much more enjoyable and is so very helpful when travelling from out of state. My only critic was that the bedroom has 2 skylights that do not have any window coverings (blinds) consequently as soon as the sun is up (around 6 am) the room is flooded with light, this is great if you are an early riser but not so much fun if you are trying to sleep in. I was able to resolve this with some eye shades but some kind of window covering would be ideal. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.
Think details. Everything you think you need seems to appear in front of you. Kitchen, Bath, Bedroom all seem to have the products and special touches that make us so well cared for. Cute, cozy, open and bright. Favorite daily activity: walking 2 blocks to the beach to toast the sunset with all the locals. The sunny weather allowed for lots of local walking and there are dozens of beaches and attractions within a short drive. Other favorite suggestions from the owner: Birk Aquarium, Farmers Market, Surf scene, boardwalk, Great restaurants. SO bummed to miss the WWII museum. Not the typical rental. Truly homey and sweet. Can't wait to go back!
This cottage was super cosy and comfortable for my husband and I. It was beautifully decorated, clean and very well supplied with everything we needed. The kitchen was well equiped. The personal touches really set this place apart from our normal rental. This cottage made us feel like we were at home. The location is great, few steps from the Beach and a small walk to the village. I recommend this cottage to anyone that appreciated staying in a property that is obviously so very well taken care of by it's owner and her manager.
This cottage is perfect in every way. Location, 100 yards from the ocean, 1 mile from the Bird Rock shops, 1 mile from downtown La Jolla. Completely outfitted kitchen, large closet, most comfortable bed, 2 flat-screen tv's, delightful courtyard. a complete delight!
My husband and I decided not to do the typical tropical honeymoon and opted to stay in my home state of California and make a little trip down the coast. Looking back, we could not be happier with our decision! La Jolla was beautiful and this little place had everything we needed. The location is perfect-- we brought our bikes and rode everywhere. A morning walk down to the beach took no more than 2 minutes. Windansea Cottage was clean, the perfect size for 2 people, and tastefully decorated. We are so happy now that we decided to do a more relaxed honeymoon and would definitely go back and stay there if we ever get the chance!
We had a weekend getaway at yhe Windansea cottage from Phoenix. With our average temperature here lately being around 110, it was a great relief to get to the pleasant weather of San Diego. We brought our 2 young boys ( almost 3 year old and 3 month old). Cathleen was impressed and said we were brave for bringing them, and after the weekend was over, we agree- it may be a couple years before we attempt it again! The location was awesome. We loved the idea that we could walk to the beach, especially with the boys taking naps, etc. It was nice to go down the hill in the morning, and then go back to the cottage for lunch and naps, and then return to the beach afterwards and not have to deal with parking at a beach in the middle of the day. The cottage was very nice too-very clean and the instant we walked in gave us the feel of a fun beach vacation. We'll definitely be back!
There is a gym less than one block from the cottage at the intersection of La Jolla Village Drive & Nautilus Street.
