MONTHLY VACATION RENTAL - Located along Oregon's spectacular, rugged Wild River's Coast, the estate is perched atop the one of the highest hills in Gold Beach with unsurpassed views of the mouth of the Rogue River and Pacific Ocean beyond.
You will arrive at the end of a private road which insures our guests the utmost in privacy and security. The house has over 5,000 square feet of comfortable living space on three levels, plus over 1,000 feet of decking from which to enjoy the fabulous scenery. In addition to the 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, there is a fully-equipped media/entertainment room complete with surround sound.
There is a library for reading and meditation, as well as a large parlor that doubles as a dining room to accommodate large gatherings and formal dinner parties. Built in speakers provide relaxing stereo music throughout the main floor.
For more casual cooking, there is a Weber gas barbecue located on the main level deck outside. The separate master suite, with en suite bath that includes an oval jacuzzi tub, is located on the ground floor, with direct access to the large hot tub that accommodates 10. The entire house features large panoramic double-pane Anderson windows to bring the outside in. If one wants to reconnect for a bit, there are four TVs, all on cable, placed strategically throughout the house.
I was out fishing on the Rogue River one vacation day and noticed the house on the hill and thought it was just beautiful. To my surprise and delight, it turned out to be for sale. So I bought it and planned to move from Los Angeles to this beautiful, luxury wilderness retreat. But life has a way of surprising you when you least expect it and I met a California girl who would not budge; so we got married and stayed in California. I decided it was a shame to let the house sit empty, and I couldn't bear to give it up, so I started renting it out.
John Upshur purchased this house in 2002
This is house unique in that it has expansive view of the Rogue River where it empties into the Pacific ocean. There are breathtaking views from the expansive glass windows and 1,000 ft. of decking on which to enjoy the view. In addition, the extensive use of glass throughout the house brings the outdoors inside.
We are on a private street less than five minutes from Gold Beach Harbor and HWY 101. Is it is secluded but conveniently located to all local attractions.
Just check out the photos to see how beautiful the house really is; we think you will agree.
World class fishing, convenient to world class golf courses, expansive, roomy yet cozy rooms, great for get togethers or private getaways, lots of outdoor sports and exploring, wonderful neighbors and lots more.
I loved it and so did my kids grd kids and whole family it was great the last vacation before my brother passed so a special time and my 2 jacks loved it
What a spacious, well-equipped home in a marvelous location. We were very comfortable. We explored the coast from Brookings to Coos Bay and did a lot of hiking, finding a few "secret" beaches where we were the only ones present. It has been 30 years since we have been on the Oregon coast and we enjoyed it so much we think we will return. If so, Hilltop House will be high on our list.
This was our third year of renting the Hilltop House in the month of April and it does not fail in its cleanliness and breathtaking views. If you're looking for a "cozy" beachfront home, this is probably not it but if you want room to entertain guests and have a dog-friendly executive show-off mansion, you can't beat it. All of our guests were complimentary of the beds and the awesome luxurious condition of the house.
Gold Beach itself has the warmest people ever and we got to know several quite quickly on a personal basis. The shopkeepers and fishing guides can't be beat.
We go in the spring when it is a little more economical but it is still a great deal when you do the math compared to what some beach houses charge for the weekend. I was almost afraid to write a review in that more people would find out about it. You can't go wrong.
We really enjoyed staying so close to the Rogue River and Pacific Ocean. The house is at the top of a private road and has amazing views of the Rogue River. It is a cozy environment with large luxurious rooms. I really felt a sense of being close to nature. The deer are friendly and there are lots of different types of wildlife that can be seen along the forest's edge right across the road.
My kids and husband had a blast with the jet boat rides and sightseeing. We also had a great time taking long walks on the beach. It was a wonderful experience spending time with my family.
My family and I have been staying at the HillTop House for the past 3 years and have it reserved for 2016. It is very clean and has all the accommodation’s and amenities that our large family could ask for. Our Grandchildren really enjoy the hot tub and the views of the Rouge River and Ocean are spectacular! The Owners and the Property Manager are very easy to work with and met all our needs. We really enjoy staying here and I would highly recommend this house!!
Thank you for letting us stay in your fantastic home. It was like being in the sky with the birds. The views were so beautiful. The house is so big, you can get lost in it. We had a wonderful time with my sister. Also had a few friends come and stay for a few days. Everthing you need is here. If you have trouble climbing stairs, better look for another place to stay.
We'll be going home in a few days, and we'll miss being here. Our dogs also had a great time.
Thanks again John, we'll never forget this trip.
