Tarrel James and Kay Cunningham
About Tarrel James and Kay Cunningham
We enjoy entertaining, gourmet foods, gardening, and exploring new places. We're recent transplants from California. Would love to say our life motto is "keep it simple," but that is not how it has turned out! We love feeding our newly hatched turtle (i.e. Moe), exercise, farmers markets, great nutrition, attending community art walks, creative ideas, innovative architecture, getting up each morning, positive mind-sets, live theater, nurturing young minds, visiting our children/grandchildren and meeting interesting, like-minded people.
Tarrel James and Kay Cunningham purchased this House in 2016
Why Tarrel James and Kay Cunningham chose Fairhope
We bought the raw land and envisioned a microcottage community where travelers could experience a quiet, plant-filled oasis and/or entertain in an active, outdoor paradise. We planned, built, and decorated these fortified (concrete construction) suites filled them with local art and added every amenity inside and out to complete them as a home-away-from-home.
What makes this House unique
Our street legal 2018 six-passenger golf cart gives our guests the ability to tour this charming tourist town. Or if more exercise is desired, our four new bicycles will be the choice! There is a wood-fired pizza oven and a Petanque court to add to the entertainment value. Wifi, U-Verse TV, and a collection of board games await our guests.

Excelllant, home was a quiet retreat filled with treasures. Linens were superb, furnishings were modern and appliances were top of the line. A nice quiet oasis to relax in. Loved feeding the turtles
Absolutely awesome stay. Super clean & nice & comfortable. Can ride golf cart or bikes to many nearby places to eat! Property is so great you really just want to relax on site.
Can’t wait to go back! One of the best rentals I’ve ever stayed at. Beautiful, relaxing grounds. Very nice decor and squeaky clean. Fairhope was a great mini vacation-such a charming area.
This place is very special and a lot of thought went into not only the rooms but the surrounding landscape, etc. Great location, classy/unique interior, beautiful grounds.
A little peace of heaven.
It was such a charming place. I didn’t want to leave. Thank you.
What a treat!
We really enjoyed The Retreat at Nichols. The unit itself is very clean and comfortable and has every amenity. The garden is a delight and the art work inspiring. It was fun feeding the turtles. We only wish we could have stayed longer! Thanks for your hospitality!!
