Tarrel James and Kay Cunningham
About Tarrel James and Kay Cunningham
We enjoy entertaining, gourmet foods, gardening, and exploring new places. We're recent transplants from California. Would love to say our life motto is "keep it simple," but that is not how it has turned out! We love feeding our newly hatched turtle (i.e. Moe), exercise, farmers markets, great nutrition, attending community art walks, creative ideas, innovative architecture, getting up each morning, positive mind-sets, live theater, nurturing young minds, visiting our children/grandchildren and meeting interesting, like-minded people!
Tarrel James and Kay Cunningham purchased this House in 2016
Why Tarrel James and Kay Cunningham chose Fairhope
We bought the raw land and envisioned a microcottage community where travelers could experience a quiet, plant-filled oasis and/or entertain in an active, outdoor paradise. We planned, built, and decorated these fortified (concrete construction) suites filled them with local art and added every amenity inside and out to complete them as a home-away-from-home.
What makes this House unique
Our street legal 2018 six-passenger golf cart gives our guests the ability to tour this charming tourist town. Or if more exercise is desired, our four new bicycles will be the choice! There is a wood-fired pizza oven and a Petanque court to add to the entertainment value. Wifi, U-Verse TV, and a collection of board games await our guests.

Outdoor area is a retreat!
Beautiful property conveniently located to downtown via golf cart. Outdoor area is beautiful and well kept. Loved all the artwork inside and out. Wish we could have stayed longer. Inside was clean, beautiful, and well stocked. Sherry greeted us upon arrival and was very helpful! We will be back!
Fun, fabulous and artsy
These owners have gone above and beyond in designing the spaces. There is a little hidden gem to be found in every area--inside and out--from the bottle of wine they left for us, to the face in the jar in the kitchen, to the climbing men on the porch and the people in the birdcage. Trust me you will enjoy this place with all of its modern amenties.
Young Family of Four
Goodness, I don't even know where to begin. We simply ADORED our time in Fairhope with our 1 and 4 year olds. We were worried we wouldn't find enough to do and figured we'd drive down to Orange Beach a few days but we never did! We stayed perfectly busy and content right in sweet little Fairhope. I would say a large part of what made our trip so great and memorable was THIS rental. It was just perfect! I can't stress enough how amazingly accommodating it was. It was fully stocked with EVERYTHING we could possibly need. The kids loved the golf cart and we loved getting to drive around looking at all of the sweet houses. They kids also loved the "sip and dip" pool. It was the perfect size for them! They haven't stopped talking about the turtles and I haven't stopped talking about the incredible outdoor garden area. The cottage was literally the most aesthetically pleasing place I have ever stayed. I've already told many many people about the rental/area. We came home so rested and restored... just incredible. Thank you so much!!
Our visit to The Retreat was wonderful. The apt. unit was clean, welcoming, thoughtful, and very quiet. This was our first visit to Fairhope, AL and we definitely recommend staying at The Retreat on Nichols. We enjoyed the fact that we had access to a gas grill, a street legal golf cart, an area to sit and relax outside, which a hotel room does not offer.
We travel often and I must say that this is the nicest condo that we have stayed. Everything is first class. There is nothing the owners have overlooked.
Immaculate sanctuary in a great town
Property is immaculate and very artsy. Amazing the detail the owners have gone through. It's sort of its own oasis and we enjoyed our time on property. It's a bit outside the town and theres no sidewalks for a few 100 yards. If the golf cart is working then a ride into town would be nice. It wasnt when we stayed. Fairhope is quaint, safe and very friendly.
Owners were very responsive and show they care. Reccomend
