Relax with a family bbq or play a game of horseshoes in the meadow.
Custer is in an area known as the 'heart' of the hills and local attractions include Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Jewel and Wind Caves, the scenic Needles Highway. It is also 6 miles from Crazy Horse Mountain, several lakes and approximately 45 miles from historic Deadwood and the Rapid City airport. This area also attracts motorcyclists especially during the Sturgis motorcycle rally. We also welcome hunters for deer, elk and turkey season. In the fall Custer State Park hosts the famous Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival.

I live in Colorado
Mary Shepard purchased this cabin in 2005
I fell in love with the Black Hills after several trips to the Sturgis motorcycle rallies. The hills and rock formation are beautiful, peaceful and scenic with lots of history. I love the small town slow pace.
Most people can't decide if they should stay and hang out at the cabin or if they should go sight seeing or tour other area attractions. It is so relaxing you won't want to leave!!
Thanks for a great house. Everyone settled in for a great stay. The back porch was our favorite spot. Day and night. The kitchen suited our needs. Having a radio was a plus. The car port spared the bikes from a couple of downpours.
The location of the house was right in the center of the Park system, and the scenic drives were great. We would happily give a recomendation to any future rental requests that you might have.
Thanks, Polly Balland
This is a great property, it is very clean and the location is perfect!!! This property is fully stocked with what you would need, simply bring the food you want to eat and everything else is there for you. Custer is about a three minuet drive, so finding a grocery store is a piece of cake. This property is very clean and welcoming. We were very pleased with our stay and would rent this house again!!!
This was a beautiful area. Saw deer in the yard every day.
No air conditioning but didn't need it. The cabin was nice and cool.
The guest cottage is a garage that was made into two bedrooms and a bathroom.
The 2nd bedroom at the main house you have to go outside to use. It did smell musty.
Those extra bedrooms could have used some kind of cooling unit.
The cabin could have been cleaner....a lot of dead bugs and cobwebs.
The towels all smelled dank and musty.
Overall, it was comfortable and we enjoyed our stay.
Property was beautiful and we enjoyed tons of wildlife. Only thing wish would have been clearer was that the 2nd bedroom at the main house has an exterior entrance so we were not comfortable having kids stay in there.
Two couples exploring the area around the Black Hills of South Dakota chose this house for our base. The house was completely as described in the listing. We were very comfortable staying there and really enjoyed the well appointed kitchen and laundry facilities. A special bonus was having deer and wild turkeys visit the yard every day. I highly recommend this property to other small groups travelling together.
Had a wonderful time at this property in Custer. It was exactly as described. Beautiful, peaceful, and in the middle of what seemed like a wildlife preserve. We frequently saw Deer, Wild Turkey, Varmint, Squirrels and Chipmunks. A nice property tucked in amongst the pine trees, and a short drive to Custer and Mount Rushmore. I never knew how amazing South Dakota is, and we will be back again.. Mary is a pleasure to work with and made everything as easy as it could be.
We loved our stay at the cabin ! All though the sleeping arrangements are set up more for couples, we made it work for all nine of us, most of which are not couples. I understand 2 of the sofas are extremely comfortable ! The property was very clean and well attended to. The atmosphere there is fantastic. The gravel road to the cabin is in very nice shape and wasn't bad traveling on a motorcycle. We loved sitting out in the evening, and were amazed at the wildlife we were able to see. We would definitely rent this cabin again.
