TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND BREATHE IN THE AMBIANCEof INDIAN and WESTERN cultures of this home on 5 private wooded acres but only one mile from the town of Custer. The cedar house has ceramic tile floors throughout, leather furniture, new kitchen appliances and LOTS of windows.
The main house sleeps 2 in the master bedroom, 2 in the attached 'western room' (accessed from the porch) and 1 in the large utility room. The guest quarters sleeps 2 in the main studio room and 2 in the small bedroom.
The master bedroom is furnished in aspen log with a queen bed and master bath. A utility room off the kitchen sleeps 1 in a twin bed w/access to the main bathroom and its own entrance. The porch outside the utility room gives access to the 'western room' which has a full size bed with beautiful rock and cedar walls (western room is for warm weather months). We also have a pak'n play and a booster chair w/tray. Guest quarters is setup like a studio apartment (minus a kitchen) but with a bathroom/shower. The main room has a queen size bed, sofa, tv/satellite. The second room has a full size bed a separate entrance and all the character of a cabin setting.
There are 4 covered porches the favorite and largest is partially enclosed with comfy wicker furniture. It's a favorite spot for morning coffee, watching thunderstorms or sipping cocktails in the evening. From any porch you can enjoy the view, peacefulness and wildlife. Relax with a family bbq or play a game of horseshoes in the meadow.
Custer is in an area known as the 'heart' of the hills and local attractions include Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Jewel and Wind Caves, the scenic Needles Highway. It is also 6 miles from Crazy Horse Mountain, several lakes and approximately 45 miles from historic Deadwood and the Rapid City airport. This area also attracts motorcyclists especially during the Sturgis motorcycle rally. We also welcome hunters for deer, elk and turkey season. In the fall Custer State Park hosts the famous Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival.

I live in Colorado
Mary Shepard purchased this cabin in 2005
I fell in love with the Black Hills after several trips to the Sturgis motorcycle rallies. The hills and rock formation are beautiful, peaceful and scenic with lots of history. I love the small town slow pace.
Most people can't decide if they should stay and hang out at the cabin or if they should go sight seeing or tour other area attractions. It is so relaxing you won't want to leave!!
Thanks for a great house. Everyone settled in for a great stay. The back porch was our favorite spot. Day and night. The kitchen suited our needs. Having a radio was a plus. The car port spared the bikes from a couple of downpours.
The location of the house was right in the center of the Park system, and the scenic drives were great. We would happily give a recomendation to any future rental requests that you might have.
Thanks, Polly Balland
House at the end of a long driveway made it very private. Lots of trees and space around the property...saw deer multiple days in the morning in the yard, and lake visible from the back porch. Easy access to downtown Custer, Custer State Park. House tastefully decorated with buffalo, Native American artwork. Large kitchen. Guest house separated from main house allows two couples to sleep in their own space at night. Enjoyed charcoal grill on porch at end of the day, making steaks. Priced very reasonably.
My husband and I were very pleased with the cabin. It is built into side of a small hill in a ponderosa pine forest with a great view of neighboring small lake through kitchen, bedroom and porch windows. Extensive windows run entire length of cabin. Furniture and bed very comfortable . Satellite tv and Internet both reliable. Turkey and deer were regular visitors. Food for feeders left in storage room a nice touch. Kitchen very well stocked with appliances and sundries. Absolute privacy with no visible neighbors but close to Custer. Directions to home were very clear. Although we did not use the outbuilding, we did go inside. There was absolutely no workshop odors mentioned by other reviewers. This place is a real gem.
We had a wonderful time in Custer. The cabin was great, it was clean and furnished very nicely. It was great getting up in the morning and sitting on the back deck watching the deer. Would stay here again if ever in the Custer area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mary's cabin! It was a perfect setting, just 1 mile from the City of Custer and also on a gravel road that we could travel with our Ranger, enjoying the sights. The accomodations were great for 6 adults and three children. The only regret we had is that we wish we would have stayed one more night (we were there for 5 nights) just to enjoy the cabin... Thanks, Mary and we hope to visit your lovely cabin again!!! Terry and Sandy Gillespie, Clinton, MN
The property is beautiful , a nice cozy , well kept home with great location and views ..
We will return to this place... The property owners are very nice and easy to communicate with .
This is a great property, it is very clean and the location is perfect!!! This property is fully stocked with what you would need, simply bring the food you want to eat and everything else is there for you. Custer is about a three minuet drive, so finding a grocery store is a piece of cake. This property is very clean and welcoming. We were very pleased with our stay and would rent this house again!!!
