Cozy reader's paradise
Wonderful location just up the street from downtown. Great selection of books to browse. We loved the 20' ceilings, and the place had a Parisian vibe. Nice shower, s-l-o-w toilet.
We did have a few issues - missing bedding for the sofabed, firewood & matches for the woodstove, paper towels and an uncleaned (and very moldy) coffeemaker, but one call to Sylvia and she was there in 10 minutes to remedy.
We were surprised that they had no info on Russ park - a beautiful property of trails just up the street. We happened across a brochure downtown and were glad we found that local gem so close!
All in all very nice place. We would stay again.
Relaxing stay at the Library
Unique facility in a quiet setting. Well-maintained, and a great place to get away from it all.
Thank you for the nice review. We’re glad you enjoyed yourselves!
Excellent in all ways !
Thank you so much!
Ferndale is a beautiful little town and this house is the perfect location for a visit. Wonderful views. Close to town but you feel like you're out in the country. Owners are very nice and respond quickly. The house is beautifully decorated and feels spacious.
Thank you for your gracious review. We are so glad you enjoyed the town and the House!
Lovely accommodations in a pastoral setting
My wife and I go to Humboldt County frequently and are very fond of the Victorian village of Ferndale. This newish building is one of three rental units in and around the main house on a former dairy farm within easy walking distance of town. It features a soaring ceiling with double-height windows that flood the space with sunlight during the day and offer views of the moon and stars at night, Deer and wild turkeys graze in the meadows outside the windows. And if you tire of watching them, you can read one of the many, many books for which the place is named--an extraordinary collection, with an emphasis on history, literature, geography. and art. The kitchen area is full-featured, although slight on counter space, and worked well for us preparing breakfasts and our picnic lunches to go, when we drove off to tour the redwoods, the Lost Coast, the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and the coast north of Eureka. In the evening we dined at Tuyas, a great Mexican restaurant downtown, which we tried on our first night in Ferndale and kept going back to thereafter, because, well, why not?
All in all, the space was comfortable, carefully decorated, and immaculate. Sylvia, the property manager was friendly and helpful. And there is a friendly cat that lives in the barn next door and will greet you outside the door in the morning. We were enjoying ourselves so much we called Sylvia to tack on an extra day. This really is a one-of-a-kind unit, and we will definitely be going back if we can.
Thank you for your lovely and thorough review. We all love living in Ferndale and it gives us pleasure to know that you enjoyed yourselves here! Please do come again.
We rented the Library, the Garden room, and the Bluff House for a family retreat. I've written a longer review under the Bluff House. All three units were peaceful and perfect, and together housed all of us for an unforgettable week.
