'Two Penguins' - Gorgeous, Private Oceanfront Cottage with Hot Tub

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

Minimum Stay
2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Take in the stunning panoramic views of the Straight of Georgia and the snow-capped North Shore Mountains from our beautiful, rustic oceanfront cottage. Enjoy drinks and meals on the deck while you watch the spectacular sunsets and, after dark, the lights of Vancouver. Then wake up to gorgeous sunrises over the mountains or star gaze at night through the large skylight in the second floor master bedroom.

Watch birds, deer, otters, seals and bald eagles while you sip your morning cup of coffee from the sandstone beach, the wrap-around deck, or one of the two main bedrooms. You might even see a pod of orcas passing by, or sea lions frolicking in the ocean right in front of the house.

The Hot Tub is nestled into the natural landscape just off of the beach, overlooking the ocean. Savour the gorgeous night time views of the stars and the lights of Vancouver. In the summer, watch the sunrise and sunset. In the winter, listen to the sound of crashing waves on the beach as all of your cares melts away.

The house is tastefully decorated and equipped with all the basics you may need. Both the Master bedroom and second bedroom overlook the ocean and mountains. The Master bedroom has a larger than king size bed and a large skylight for star-gazing at night. The second bedroom has a queen size bed. Each of the other two bedrooms have sleeping lofts and two twin beds.

The property is just 10 minutes by car from the ferry. It's a nice walk down a country road or just minutes away from stores, restaurants, the golf club and the pub, by car or bike. It sits on about 7 private wooded acres and 300 feet of low bank, sandstone waterfront. There are extensive lawns for lounging or playing games as well as a large pond where you may see wood, harlequin, mallard or other ducks.

In the cooler months, snuggle by the fire with a good book, enjoy our great selection of board games or our wonderful and diverse collection of DVD's.

About The Owner

We fell in love with Galiano Island about 25 years ago, and have been both full-time residents and 'weekenders'. We currently live in Vancouver and hope to return to Galiano full time one day.

The Owner purchased this house in 1996

Why The Owner chose British Columbia Gulf Islands

As past full-time residents, we knew exactly what we were looking for in a Galiano home. This property has it all: 300 feet of beachfront, 7 acres of private forest, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets in the summer, a wrap-around deck, lots of windows, wood stove, hot tub...

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous few days break - we have been so relaxed here. Loved the house, tides and beaches. Have plans to return!

We should have left this comment sooner...we stayed here for a week in the summer of 2005. What a wonderful time!! We still talk about how beautiful it was. Keep an eye out for the eagle!!

Lovely cabin in a private setting with fabulous views and an ocean-side hot tub

  • 5 of 5

Two Penguins is one of my favourite places to recharge and get away from the city. It's peaceful, private and right on the ocean. It's amazing to fall asleep listening to the waves and to wake up to a hot tub near the beach. You can see eagles, otters and seals plus beautiful ocean views from the balcony. Love this place!

Great weekend getaway immersed in nature!

  • 5 of 5

There were 4 of us staying here from Victoria for a birthday gathering, and this house was exactly what we were looking for! It was pretty secluded and surrounded by trees, with a very short walk past the hot tub to the ocean. We loved playing bocce in the yard while listening to the waves crash close by. The drive to the house was bumpier than expected with many potholes on an unpaved path, but we had two small cars and they managed just fine. The house itself was laid out nicely, with enough room and basic necessities to feel spacious but also like a cozy cabin space. The master bedroom was amazing - biggest bed I've ever seen under large skylights for star viewing, and windows all around the room for tree and ocean views. Such a great escape from city life. Joanna was very helpful in arranging this stay and provided all the information we'd ever need in order to have a great weekend. I would definitely recommend this property!

Owner's Response: Thanks Rachelle, So glad you all enjoyed your time. We have since repaired the pot holes. It is an ongoing process with rain on a ling winding country driveway in a rain forrest. ;) I hope you can return one day. Joanne

Already Planning Our Next Visit

  • 5 of 5

This place was LOVELY. My husband, two year-old daughter and I stayed for four nights and our friends came with their 5 month old and dog and spent one night with us (it was supposed to be two but unfortunately their first ferry got cancelled due to the typhoon storm remnants).

Beautiful views from the main living area as well as both "adult" bedrooms. The upstairs bedroom was particularly spectacular with its large windows and skylight (and HUGE, beyond comfortable bed). And kids would definitely love the "kid" bedrooms - the walls are painted with fun murals and they both have the beds up in a loft area.

Both Joanne and the property manager were very helpful and always quick to respond. Joanne was thoughtful enough to call us personally to walk us through what to do in case of a power outage (somehow we were lucky enough not to have one during the storm!).

Of all the VRBO's I've stayed at I would say this was easily one of the better stocked kitchen's from a utensils/pots/pans etc standpoint - it was great! The knives could definitely use a sharpen:)

The hot-tub. It's amazingly situated with a stunning view of the ocean right there. Definitely one of the highlights!

My only other comment/suggestion would be that if you're bringing toddlers/younger kids (especially during the colder months) and want to take advantage of using the lovely wood fireplace (which would be necessary during a power outage) - BRING A GATE or something that you can put around the fireplace to protect your children as it gets incredibly hot and is situated in an open area between the kitchen and living room. I do believe this is flagged somewhere in the property details but I feel like it was a bit more buried (vs being feature on the "don't forget to pack" page), but I was really thankful a friend that had previously stayed there gave us a heads up as I might have missed it. In an ideal world there would simply be one at the property, but I appreciated not all visitors would require it:)

Lastly I should add that there's a great crafts cupboard + lots of DVD's which our daughter definitely loved! (she fell in love with Finding Nemo).

Thanks again for such an amazing stay! Looking forward to visiting again.

Wonderful seclusion!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with 7 of my paddling buddies for a five days and we all loved every minute of it. The house is not large but very cozy and it slept 8 adults comfortably. The master super king size bed was fabulous with all the windows and skylights. Hot tub was enjoyed by quite a few of us. We also were thrilled to see some "fall storm watching" right from the deck. Hiking Mt. Galiano is a must as well as the Bodega Ridge. We had too much wind to kayak so enjoyed these hikes immensely. Wouldn't have had time to do them otherwise, so things worked out really well. We paddled on the last day and did Montague Harbour and all the outlying islands, beautiful. We didn't get the time to do Gossip island so will have to come back!

The home is well equipped and we enjoyed the wood stove in the evening. The only tricky part was the could use a little shaving off the centre hump and filling some pot holes. We had some SUVs and they did fine but the sedans were concerned although they did OK wth a few scratches due to avoiding the centre hump and consequentlly driving too close to the shrubbery.

Thanks to our host for providing such a unique place in paradise.

Owner's Response: Thanks Mary, So glad you all enjoyed 2P and got to enjoy the local hikes as well. I too love watching the storms form the house. The driveway has been graded since your stay. An uphill battle with a long and winding country driveway in a rainforest. We have a Prius which has a very low clearance, but if you take it very slowly it is just fine. I look forward to having you back one day, Joanne
