Set on a double lot with high pine trees, you can lounge on the screened porch, grill in the shaded yard, and dine in the separate dining room, or walk to nearby, downtown Rehoboth. On a quiet street, the main house has three bedrooms, a bath and a half, and an outside shower. The main house has a screened porch overlooking a shaded front yard. There is a separate guest cottage that also may be used as an HDTV lounge. The guest house has a full bath, a wet bar with fridge, two daybeds and trundle. Ample parking for at least three cars and nearby shopping for seafood to grill, greens to toss and wine to toast. New for 2009-2013: New landscaping, siding, windows, doors, heating and a/c; side-by-side fridge, main house flat screen, Blu-Ray player, Bosch dish washer, washer-dryer, wine cooler, updated kitchen and guest cottage bath, new high-end double-oven stove, microwave and vent.
Our family stayed at the home last year, late July. We were instantly in love with the charm and the character of the home. It felt as if we had been asked to visit the home of a dear relative, not a rental!
Obviously, the home is not the Hilton, but if you are looking for charm and a feeling of "home" then this is the place.
Don't bother to pack all the pots, pans, cutlery, or a coffee maker, everything in your home kitchen is already there, including soap for the top of the line washer and dryer!
We were able to save tons of money by bringing food we had bought on sale, frozen and transported. The outdoor charcoal grill was so handy. Lobsters and steaks every night!
Additionally, being so close to the beach we were able to enjoy biking there (with our own libation) each day rather than driving and parking.
Parking can be rough, so bring your bike, the route is easy and only a few blocks through wonderful neighborhoods.
The home is wonderful, the cottage is a super spot for our teenagers to make their own "apartment" for the week, it has its own bath and kitchenette, so you might never see your kids!
Our favorite amenity was the romantic, peaceful outdoor shower. It is huge and private. I don't think anyone actually used the indoor shower!
We found the area to be very artsy and friendly. We felt the teenage girls could go out shopping or to the beach without worry. We don't allow them out at night unchaperoned, but never felt that the area was unsafe at any time of day.
The beaches were packed, but the people all seemd to be happy vacationers, not rowdy or rude. Beach umbrellas and chaises are available for rent at the beach.
The waves and current were some of the strongest I have seen, it was exhilarating but I wouldn't let go of any child in the waves. Plenty of life life-guards, but I am a terrific swimmer and even I lost my footing a few times.
The house was impeccably clean! I am a picky, neat-freak and I could not find a speck of dirt!
Please treat the home with respect so we may all enjoy it again in the future!
There is a small farmers market just up the road about three blocks with wonderful heirloom veggies at great prices.
We took an eco-tour kayak trip at sunset, which was spectacular. The kids loved the para-sailing, and mini-golf at one of the nearby "resort" towns.
Crabby Dick's Restaurant was fun, even found beignets, shopping was eclectically superb, wish I had space to write more!
Hope to get there again!
The house was better than we expected. It is a lot larger than it looks from the outside. We used every room including the cottage where the big TV was. The kitchen was really well equipped and the washer and dryer easy to use.We had bikes so rode to the beach every day and downtown in the evenings. Some of us even made it up for a few sunrises. It was a wonderful and relaxing vacation and we are seriously considering trying to come back again next year.
This cottage is close to the beach and very convientent to shopping and getting last minute items. Has everything that you need for a vacation away from home! Very safe and has off street parking! A fenced in backyard with a outdoor shower! Lots of books for those rainy days, but best of all quite when you want it and plenty of excitement within walking distance and bike riding. Would deffinently go back!
Music, nightlife, dining, shopping, swimming, and boating are close by. In colonial Lewes up Route One a few miles, there are antique shops to be explored, deep-sea fishing, and whale watching. In addition to the famous beaches of Rehoboth and Dewey, the area sports a large concentration of discount outlets for the shopper in your family.
For the kids, there is a water park and a quaint, old-fashioned boardwalk complete with a Whack-a-Mole, rides, pinball and the latest electronic games. For the adult, there are rock and roll and blues bars, and some wonderful restaurants of every kind and price range (some of the best pizza and the finest seafood anywhere). Rehoboth has its own brew pub and the area has the only working vineyard in Delaware. Best of all, there are a number of bookstores and the peace, space and time to read on your own quiet screened porch.
