This 5 bedroom home was built in 2000. The inside is clean, spacious, and comfortable. The kitchen is very big with 2 tables and a bar area that seats 4.
There are 36 acres of property to roam, with 3200 feet of water frontage. There is vegetation (trees and blueberry bushes) right up to the waters edge, with a nice dock area. You must cross the street to get to the dock area. Behind the house, there are some rugged trails and logging roads to roam around on. The logging roads were last used during the 2015 winter, so there should be some fairly open snowshoeing and XC-Skiing trails right on the property. The White Mountain National Forest is just to the south.

About Jim Dearden
I am a family guy... a skier, a boater, a sports aficionado. There is nothing more important than family and friends. I appreciate sharing moments with family and friends together, playing cards, or swimming in the lake... hiking, or skiing. Sitting around a firepit under the stars... The Bethel community is full of great people, places, restaurants, and recreation. That is why I visit Bethel... and why you should too!
Jim Dearden purchased this House in 1995
Why Jim Dearden chose Bethel
I bought this abandoned summer farmhouse in 1995 because of my love for skiing, and my desire to have both a ski house, and a lake house. No doubt, I had no idea what a labor of love I was getting into! Ask me about the day I tried to jack up the old farmhouse in order to pour a foundation underneath it... I'll fill you in on how this house, built in the year 2000, came into being!

Great place to stay for Sunday River
Great house, clean upon arrival and the owner Jim is very responsive and easy to communicate with. Plenty of room and beds for our party of 12, and the hot tub was much appreciated after a long day of being outside in the 7 degree weather. WIfi worked well, washer/dryer were also useful to have between multiple days of skiing. About 15 minutes driving time to Sunday River. Very happy with our stay and would book again for a similar trip
Thank you Mike! It was great to meet you and your friends, and I'll look forward to seeing you all again next time!
Nice place to
15 minutes to Sunday River, hot tub was warm enough for 0F
Windows need curtains
Too warm in the rooms @ night
We had a wonderful wedding weekend in Bethel.
The home had everything we needed for our stay. There was plenty of space for the 8 of us. The kitchen is very well equipped and there were more than enough towels. We all enjoyed the new hot tub. The owner and caretaker were very accommodating. Thank you. Marcia McDonnell
A peaceful getaway
We spent five nights on Songo Pond at the beginning of August. There were ten of us spending the night and we all had plenty of space! Jim was very helpful and responsive to our various questions before arrival and during our stay. The property was clean and well-equipped for cooking and barbecuing. Our two favorite things were the jacuzzi and the pond. The water around the dock is shallow and perfect for swimming, but not for diving. The pond is calm and peaceful, and at night you can sometimes hear loon calls! This place is great for getting the family together outside the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Highly recommended!
Great times at Songo Pond
My family and I booked this home for our summer getaway/family reunion. The home was clean and tidy when we arrived, with plenty of space for everyone (6 adults, 6 children).
Jim met my family at the home at the beginning of our stay and ensured we had what we needed to have a wonderful vacation, which included a brand new grill that he had just delivered.
We spent most of our days fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking around Songo Pond. The quality of the pond is very good -- water was clean, minimal boat traffic, low noise levels - just a great place to sit back and relax. In the evenings, we would grill dinner and enjoy the fire pit and hot tub on the property.
When we did venture off the property, one of the stops was Frenchman's hole, a swimming area that featured a ~20 foot tall rock wall where daring individuals can take a plunge
into the cold river waters - it was quite an experience. We also visited downtown Bethel, the Sunday River Brewing Company, as well as other tourist destinations during our stay.
A big thumbs up from this family - thanks Jim!
Thanks so much for choosing our home for your family vacation! So glad you had a chance to enjoy the lake across the street. Thank you for letting me know that one of the air conditioners wasn't working properly. I have replaced it with a new one! Hope to see you guys up at Songo Pond again in the future!
Not only is the house located on a beautiful pond, with abundant wildlife, fishing, and great swimming... but there are area outfitters offering canoeing, fly fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and more. There is a movie theater too! Pack up the car and go Moose-watching, visit some of the areas unique swimming holes, drive to the top of Mount Washington. Bethel is located about 65 miles from Portland, ME and some of the most beautiful beaches along the Maine coast. Just North of Portland is Freeport, ME, home of the original L.L. Bean store, open 24 hours. The White Mountain National Forest is only a few miles from Bethel, and the house is approximately 50 miles east of North Conway, NH... a mountain village with abundant tax free outlet shopping! So, there is a lot to do and see in the area.
