Imagine your next vacation in the spectacular 'Switzerland of America' at an expansive, private, lodge-like home on a sprawling 36 acre ranch! Spring, summer, fall, or winter, Elk River Ranch is the perfect accommodation for families or couples seeking a getaway in the Colorado Rockies.
Located just outside the town of Ridgway, Colorado, the ranch has a 4400-square-foot home with five bedrooms (including three master suites), five baths, family kitchen, and large dining area. Spacious family room with large stone fireplace, and living room with wood-burning stove. The upscale mountain-ranch interior and surrounding porches provide awesome mountain views.
The large gourmet kitchen includes SubZero refrigerator, Wolf range top, double ovens, and many more conveniences. At the far end of kitchen is an eating area in front of a beautiful wood-burning fireplace. Outside a large deck surrounds the kitchen.
Rental includes private catch-and-release pond. Expansive lawn incorporates barbecue, horseshoe pit, swing set, bocce ball, croquet, badminton, and a bonfire area.
My family and I spend as much time as we can at ERR. We live in Denver and come up anytime we need a break from the city life. The ranch is peaceful and beautiful, each of the rooms decorated immaculately while still keeping an air of rustic comfort. The ranch is located in Ridgway, which is a perfect location to feel the seclusion of a "real Colorado" mountain town and still being close to great restaurants and the nearby ski resort of Telluride. We usually go on a few day trips (fishing, music festivals, nearby mining towns) but once we get there, we spend most of our time at the ranch itself because it is so relaxing and beautiful. Downtown Ridgway is a close walk from the ranch and has local restaurants, yoga, antique shops and fishing/adventure outfitters. There is also a grocery market with everything you could need to cook some great meals. It's the perfect place for a family or couple to get away from normal life and enjoy a few days of peace and comfort. We have been to the ranch during different times of the year and there isn't a bad time to go. In the summer, the area is busy with festivals, farmers markets and fishing. In the winter, the mountains are breathtaking and Telluride is easy to get to for skiing. There are also places to do outdoor activities like snowmobiling and ice-climbing in the winter.
This beautiful ranch has become our favorite vacation destination. The panoramic views are breathtaking. The house is large with multiple wings/suites to easily accommodate large or even multiple families. The massive kitchen is just one of several locations in the house where you can congregate in groups to enhance the social aspects of vacationing. If you want some alone time for reading or contemplation, there are multiple porches to take advantage of views and the morning or afternoon Colorado sun. The property has a great catch and release trout pond which has never yet disappointed the fishermen in our family. Afternoons/early evenings sitting on the covered dock is a favorite activity. There is some fun hiking on the property and into the adjacent hills. Although you have the experience of being out in the country, a relatively short walk into the little town of Ridgway is convenient for groceries and some decent restaurants. After adjusting to the altitude, I am always ready for some great runs in the area. A few miles up the road is the very western town of Ouray - with hot springs pools, interesting shops and a variety of good restaurants. We can't wait to get back!
My wife and I had the privilege of spending a week in this amazing Ranch for our wedding anniversary, and our experience was everything we hoped for! From the amazing setting, to the gourmet kitchen, comfy bed, fishing in the pond while sipping our favorite wine, hiking trails, kayaking, fun and funky restaurants, farmers market, and the homes central location to all the wild (and not so wild) west that one might expect. My wife also found her poetry writing an inspiration there! The hosts are the best too so don't miss enjoying them, even if it is just in the process of making your reservation!
If you love the mountains this place has everything: country charm, spacious rooms, fabulous kitchen(with a fire place)! The property is beautiful with a lake, walking trails, and lots of wildlife. We have sat in the living room and watched the elk graze on the grass! There is a 360 view of surrounding mountains, sitting at 7,400 feet: to the east the Cimarron Mt. Range, to the south Mt. Sneffels and Ouray (just a 20 minute drive)and just over the ridge to the west, Telluride! The steam room is great after a long hike or skiing in the local Telluride. We try to come for a visit every year and twice with time permitting. We hike, golf and fish, and this is the place where it happens for us!( Great golf course up on Log Hill) No place like this, not even in our Canadian travels! Summer , fall(with the aspen color) or winter with skiing and ice climbing, this is the place to stay!
My family and I have stayed at Elk River Ranch both in summer and winter, and I can't decide which time of year was more beautiful. From fishing in the lake to watching elk wander through the snow - every season is idyllic and like a scene from a storybook. The lodging is rustic yet elegant and luxurious, and the style that has gone into every room, really reflects Carol (the owner's) background as an interior decorator. It comfortably fits a large extended family and with a great kitchen, equipped with all the appliances including extras like plate warmers and a double oven, meant we could all take turns cooking. The ranch's backdrop of the San Juan mountains always took my breath away, with golden aspens in the summer and snowy peaks in the winter. It is so quiet and peaceful, yet close enough to surrounding towns such as Ouray and Telluride to enjoy the sites, restaurants, cafes, bars and snow runs. Would definitely recommend!
This ranch is 5 star all the way. The owners do an excellent job of keeping it spotless and perfect. There is so much to do and yet it is the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. I loved the gorgeous drive to Telluride and the quaint town of Ouray. The interior of the ranch is very "Ralph Lauren". All the beds are so comfortable and the kitchen is stunning and large!
