Uncle Johnnie's Lakefront Fishing Cabin

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths

Lake Almanor is located 165 miles north of Sacramento, nestled amongst the pines where the Cascade Mountains meet the Sierra Nevadas. At elevation 4500 feet it is the third largest manmade lake in California and best known for its prime hunting and fishing grounds.

There are two golf courses on the lake, Bailey Creek in the peninsula & a nine hole at Lake Almanor West. OK, we're fishermen, not golfers! Mount Lassen National Park is just 26 miles away, has hiking (to the top!), picnicking, and very scenic views. Play tennis in the peninsula or bike around the lake (many other trails for cycling to choose from).

This cozy home is situated on the east shore of Hwy 147. Just about the middle of the 8 mile strip at 3907 Hwy 147, Lake Almanor, CA 96137. Enjoy sunsets on the deck or fish right off the dock. Bring your boat, there's plenty of excellent fishing holes around. During the summer months we rent Friday to Friday. It truly is a nice spot on the lake.

Shopping and antiquing can be found in all the quaint old fashioned towns around the area. Dine out in Chester, the peninsula, try Westwood's famous 'Buffalo Chips Pizzeria' ('Cabin Fever' is our favorite). For a truly affordable vacation on the lake this is the place.

About Deborah Molea

We purchased the home in 1999 as strictly a business investment. Little did we realize how in love with the entire area we'd be. John loves to fish & sure gets his limit! We live in the bay area but travel north to the home monthly. It's our favorite place to go!

Deborah Molea purchased this house in 1999

Why Deborah Molea chose California

The history of the Lake Almanor Basin is fascinating (we keep a book on the shelf to share with our guests). We found out the home was built in 1953 by Finnis Mack Saunders, nicknamed 'Chief', a foreman for the Red River Lumber Company. The knotty pine walls & ceiling in the kitchen are priceless! We've respectfully done some remodelling while keeping the old world charm of the home.

What makes this house unique

Uncle Johnnie's Fishing Cabin is situated on the middle of the east shore & is truly a nice spot on the lake. We enjoy sharing the home as much as our guests enjoy vacationing there!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family & I had a great time & loved the clean, comfortable feel of your home. You & your husband take excellent care of the home & property & I hope to rent from you again.

The house was nice and clean.

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed being on the water, but the lot next door was very small, and when they backed their house trailer into it, we felt kind of cramped. They were nice, but kind of took away our privacy. Other than that, everything was great. Caught fish at the bridge and spent some time at Butt lake. Beautiful sunsets.

Spectacular little getaway spot!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for more from this spot! The house was cozy and perfect for my family of four. The lake view was amazing and the fishing right off the dock was perfect for my 7 year-old. Customer service/reservations with the Molea's was fantastic. We are already trying to plan a long weekend for next summer! Thanks for sharing your place with us!!

A relaxing, kid friendly gem on Lake Almanor!

  • 5 of 5

This charming cabin had everything we could have asked for to make our stay a comfortable and relaxing one--kid friendly, well appointed, clean, and in order. The owner's sensitivity to anticipating guests' needs was clearly evident in the amenities provided both inside and out, which made us feel very well taken care of. Thank you for a perfectly wonderful experience at the lake!

Got away from it all, in every way we wanted.

  • 5 of 5

Uncle Johnnie's cabin came about when I suggested to my wife that we needed a lake vacation, complete with our two pups and a lakefront property. I wanted fishing, a boat, a deck and a view. This property offered all that and more; it was just what we needed.

Her parents came for two nights, so they could have the extra bedroom closer to the lake. We enjoyed getting out and about and riding around on the pontoon rented from Knotty Pine (reserve it early!!!) So, the dock was super convenient. We had our privacy as neighboring houses were empty, or they kept well enough to themselves. For the first 3 nights we did a lot of cooking, and the cabin is well equipped, and the grill is great - along with outdoor eating on the deck. Markets aren't too far away, and we raided costco on the way to have 1-2 nights of dinners ready.

It was a pleasure to be away from any busier parts of the lake - and we never felt we were "too" far away. I enjoyed spin and fly fishing from the dock for smallmouth. Shore fishing half a mile towards the dam offered more significant action for late Summer.

The owners were responsive, helpful, and certainly know how to host via HomeAway. We're really thankful and, if we need another lake trip, this will be our first choice.

If it's helpful, we enjoyed most going to Red Onion Grill, Buffalo Chip's Pizza (Cabin Fever was out of this world), Cravings for breakfast, the hot dog stand in Canyon Dam. Aside from those foodie adventures... we really enjoyed a day at Lassen.

Thanks for offering the vacation cabin we needed!!!
