We had a great time. The pontoon boat which was included in the stay, was such a delight. Mary is a call/text away if needed. There is a set of two big steps down into the living room, not at all a problem unless one has mobility issues or very small children. I don't see how the price can be beat for what one gets: full equipped kitchen, full bathroom with towels, two bedrooms, bed linens, A/C, cable, WiFi, the boat, the deck, the fire pit, the other deck by the water, comfy beds, and the gorgeous view.
There are many steps down to the water but we retired people handled them just fine. If you want luxury, pay lots more for it. If you want a pleasant place to stay with everything one needs plus that boat, this is your place.
Thank you for the wonderful review!
I am glad you had a great stay, and hope to see you again in the future!
Nice cottage on big lake
The owner Marybis very nice. The cottage very cute and a great place on the lale.
We really enjoyed our stay. The boat ran great, big lake with a lot of fish. 😁
Fun at the lake
The cottage is small, but cute. The western views of the lake were gorgeous. There are a lot of steps down to the lake, something to keep in mind if you have mobility concerns. There are a lot of trees between the cottage and both neighbors, so it felt very private.
The trip's highlight would be the use of the pontoon. We used it everyday. We went fishing , found some great deep swimming holes across the lake and took sunset cruises. We recommend having some knowledge of boats and motors as this one was a bit finicky.
The lake bottom is quite weedy, so we didn't do much swimming in front of the cottage.
We cooked almost every meal at the cottage. The kitchen is pretty well stocked, but could use a griddle or electric skillet for pancakes and a small frying pan for eggs. It was nice to have oil and cooking spray, salt, pepper and a few other staples provided. There was even a crockpot, which we didn't use, but would be great for prepping a meal to be ready upon arrival from a day on the lake. We did bring our own chef's knife, and dish towels/cloths. I'm glad we did because the knives provided could use a sharpening. I did not see kitchen linens, though I didn't look too hard for them since we brought our own.
The beds and other furniture were comfortable. It was nice to have AC and fans. The kids appreciated the TVs, cable and internet.
Mary was very easy to communicate with. We had a few minor issues and she responded promptly and issues were resolved in a timely manner.
Overall, a great place to rent and a great value!
Thanks for the great review! I appreciate your suggestions and will make the changes.
You are correct with the boat. I like to ensure there is some basic knowledge of boats. I always try to ensure help is available if needed.
Hope to see you again!
only issue was not enough room in trash can for trash, but owner was very pleasant and came and picked up trash from previouse occupants Mary was very nice, pleasant and welcoming her vacation home was amazing and very comfortable. would love to go back in the Future. Thank you Marie hope you found how we left in good shape, so we can rent again possible in the Future.
Thank you for your wonderful review!
I believe we have the trash issue resolved. It was an oversight by the cleaners and is now on the checklist to avoid future problems.
Look forward to you visiting Crooked Lake again! Would love to have you!
A great family cottage!
We really enjoyed our week. It's a great little cottage on a great lake. We LOVED having the use of the pontoon boat. It truly made the vacation! Perfect size for our family of 4. You can tell they are making lots of updates...not all of them were complete, but it didn't bother our stay at all. Mary was great to work with and answered my texted questions promptly. The master bed wasn't the best, but she told us they were getting a new one the following week. The Wi-Fi strength was great, which is important to our kiddos. Having air conditioning was appreciated as we had a couple of hot/muggy days. We were bummed that they posted signs on Tuesday afternoon all along the lake that said the lake was going to be treated (for seaweed, we think?) and we couldn't swim in it until Thursday after 6pm. We lost 2 days of swimming during our week, and the owner didn't seem to be aware that it was going to happen. I hope they provide the owners with a schedule for future treatments. The lake is really shallow at this property and it got pretty seaweed-y when it got a little deeper, but our kids enjoyed splashing around and using their floats. We didn't do much cooking, but the kitchen seemed well-supplied. She had some basic spices, salt & pepper, vegetable oil, etc. as well. She tells you in the check-in info to bring towels. This was fine with us, but it does include kitchen towels and hand towels for the bathroom, so pack those as well. We LOVED mornings on the deck and time on the pontoon. We went to Clare for most of our dinners. It's about 20 minutes away. We explored the forest canopy at Dow Gardens in Midland and had a day trip to Mt. Pleasant. We played at a couple of local mini golf places. A great vacation, a great cottage, and a great owner. Thanks for having us.
Thank you for the wonderful review!
The new bed was delivered, and new guests have said it is very comfortable.
Other owners on the lake were also unaware of the treatment and upset. It appears a new company now is involved, and did not give ample notice. It is being addressed by local residents to avoid the same problem in the future.
Continuing to improve on our guests visit is the goal. We appreciate the feedback and hope to see you again!
