Idyllic Rural Retreat In The Heart Of Tarn.

About Jim & Maggie Lock
It has been our dream for a number of years to have a home in France. After looking at many properties we came across La Poujoulie. Built in 1830 it had stood empty for 60 years until the previous owners brought it back to life in 2001. From the moment we stood at the gates and looked across the pool to the countryside beyond we knew this was the place for us and that we would never tire of such a wonderful view. We relish the peaceful feeling of relaxation it offers as soon as we open the big arched doors and step across the courtyard into the farmhouse. But when the whole family comes - well that's another thing altogether! When every bed is occupied the whole property reverberates with the joyful fun and laughter! We've tried to make it a 'home from home' and well equipped for laid back easy living whether we're just the two of us staying or a full complement of 10 people of different ages! And I think we can safely say it works well regardless of numbers - just read our visitors book and you'll find everyone who stays here agrees with us!
Jim & Maggie Lock purchased this Farmhouse in 2017
Why Jim & Maggie Lock chose Saint-Christophe
After many happy family holidays spent in various regions of France we finally decided to make it our permanent home. We chose the unspoilt area of Tarn for its rolling green countryside, temperate climate and historic towns and villages. Especially appreciating the laid back lifestyle of an area less crowded than some of France's more well known departments.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Rain or shine you can keep the kids amused at La Poujoulie this summer! If it's raining - how about a game of ping-pong or table football? Or use your skills at the full sized pool table? The games room in the barn is everyone's favourite place and the scene of many a sporting contest!! And when the sun comes out again (as it soon will!) roll back the pool cover and jump in - having switched off the pool alarm first of course! (installed for your peace of mind for the times when the pool is unattended) - the pool is heated, making it the perfect temperature every time you swim. Fencing ensures that small children can be kept out of the pool garden and within sight of the house. The garden is E, S & W facing with stunning views in all directions - particularly long to the south. There is a barbecue and plenty of garden furniture. And, later, when the little ones are safely tucked up in bed, relax with a glass of wine as you watch the setting sun soften the colours of the surrounding hills and just listen...........to the silence! Definitely no noise pollution in this heavenly part of rural France! And just wait till you see the profusion of stars in the sky once it's dark! No light pollution either! The cottage has bedrooms and shower room on ground floor so is suitable for people who find stairs difficult. Upstairs in the cottage is one big studio room with TV and a kitchenette area making it an ideal escape for teenagers, grandparents or a second family!

As a family we have just enjoyed a wonderful 2 weeks at La Poujoulie.
Jim and Maggie were the most friendly and helpful hosts. The property was spotlessly clean and well equipped with many thoughtful touches. Upon arrival there was a lovely welcoming basket full of goodies, the house and cottage has a great collection of games, CDs, books, sky tv and good WiFi for those who feel the need to stay connected!
The views from the house, pool and garden are fantastic, and there is a games barn which kept all entertained well into the night. The area is quiet and rural - I don’t think more than half a dozen vehicles passed by each day, so much wildlife to see and there is much to go and visit nearby. The weather was so hot and sunny when we visited that we spent much of the time in and around the pool but lovely countryside villages nearby to visit by bike or car and a bit further afield Najac is a must (Sunday market good for local produce), Carmaux and Le Fouillade have good supermarkets and Gaillac to stock up on wine to take home.
Thoroughly recommend and hopefully will be able to return to recharge batteries again before too long.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review.
You were the perfect guests and we're so happy you enjoyed everything that La Poujoulie and the surrounding countryside has to offer.
We would love to see you if ever you choose to return.
Many thanks and best wishes to you and your charming family.

Beautiful, relaxing, spacious perfect holiday
We arrived to in the evening to a wonderful sight of the house set amidst the breath taking views and a very welcome "welcome" basket which included a lovely bottle of wine! This prompted us to head straight out to the veranda and enjoy the wine as we sat admiring the views while the children headed straight for the pool! What a perfect start to what turned out to be a fantastic holiday in beautiful settings.
The house is very well equipped and we had more than enough space for our two families. The children slept in the "cottage" on the other side of the courtyard while the adults and the very young slept in the main house.
There was plenty of things for us all to do at the house and the children (of all ages 5 - 55 in our case) loved the games room and everything in it. The pool was wonderful and there was plenty of garden for running and playing as well as relaxing.
The house is very private but with the hire car we had easy access to many places of interest for day trips including canoeing on a river, picnicking at the lake, visiting some spectacular towns with amazing history and architecture.
We enjoyed it so much we will definitely visit again.
Magnificent holiday home!
Our family had the most wonderful holiday here, the house was supremely spacious and comfortable, and the hosts seem to have thought of everything. In fact it was the best-stocked rental house we've ever stayed in. The games room was a big hit and all members of the family were catered for, so altogether a truly harmonious holiday! The views around the house and pool area were magnificent and I would highly recommend this house for anyone looking for somewhere peaceful and "away from it all".
Thank you Clair for taking the time to give such a positive review about your stay at La Poujoulie. We always love going there ourselves and it gives us great pleasure to know that others enjoy it as much as we do!
The views from the house may be gentle but within a very short distance you will come across the awe-inspiring river gorges that the area is famous for. The many stunning medieval fortified towns and villages are a joy to explore and the wine area of Gaillac is home to one of the oldest wine producing regions in France where, in recent years, there has been a growing trend to producing some excellent organic wines.
Other Activities: Former open cast mine at Blaye-les-Mines, now a vast leisure centre with dry ski slope, skate park, rail tobogganing and much more.
Golf: Just outside Albi you will find a picturesque 18-hole golf course next to the River Tarn.
