About the property

4 bedrooms, sleeps 8, 3 1/2 bathrooms

A newer beach home located in the private Diamond Cove area of Annisquam in Gloucester. Even though it is not directly on the water, it is the perfect location. You have the use of two (semi-private, association members only) beaches. It is only a minute walk to the Diamond Cove rocky beach, where you can swim, dive, launch your kayak or just sit and watch the beautiful sunset. It is about a five minute walk to the Annisquam Light House sandy beach.

THE HOUSE: Out the back door you will have a deck with with table and chairs and view of the surrounding woods. There is a patio with table, chairs and a gas grill by the side of the house. The FIRST FLOOR is an open living and dining area with a wall of southern exposure windows overlooking the woods. There is a gas fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen. A powder room plus a bedroom (full bed) with a private bath complete the first floor. The SECOND FLOOR has three bedrooms ,(one queen bed, one full bed, two twin beds) a bath and a laundry room. The THIRD FLOOR is a large open game room. There is gas fireplace, a TV den area, pool table area, a computer area and a bathroom. Pets will be considered.

A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA: There is a lot to do in this area, but the best thing is you don't have to do anything! The house is completely furnished and for the convenience of our long distance renters, we operate on a use-it- up and replace-it system for all the staple items (if you use up the salt or the laundry detergent, just replace it before you leave). This will save you lots of money and time by not having to purchase every little spice or staple you may only need once. Just bring your clothes and personal items. There is an information book available in the house that lists local activities, restaurants, maps, etc. that will provide the answer most any question.

About Mary Willhite or Kenneth Cox

Our family has owned this property since the 1930's. Ken has summered here his entire life. This architecturally designed house was built in 2004.

Mary Willhite or Kenneth Cox purchased this house in 2004

Why Mary Willhite or Kenneth Cox chose Merrimack Valley & Essex County

Annisquam's Diamond Cove is a very private residential area on the water. Most people will never get to experience its beauty unless they rent. We love sharing it with others.

What makes this house unique

Great place to enjoy Thanksgiving or Christmas. No matter what the weather may bring, the sunsets area just gorgeous. There is a community bench at the Diamond Cove beach where you can sit, watch the sunset and take pictures. During the Fall it is a great base location for "leaf peeping". Then come home to a nice warm fireplace.

Guestbook comments from the owner

E-mail received 8/31/04A quick e-mail to let you know that we all absolutely loved the house and our vacation stay! Everything in the house is perfect-the interior decorating, the amenities, everything! We could not have picked a better place. I believe we spent the first twenty minutes upon arrival just walking around the house and looking at each other in absolute awe--that copper sink on the first floor made all of us girls want to take a picture to some day replicate it in our homes. The room colors are beautiful and the boys just loved the attic! The binder filled with information was just over the top! You are such a smart renter!!! Anything and everything we needed to know we were easily able to figure out! We did not encoundter any problems when we went to the beach. We frequented the lighthouse beach everyday of our stay and it was marvelous! Beautiful crystal clear water--although so chilly! We truly loved your home and we were so pleased with everything that we would very much like to stay again--perhaps next summer! If that's okay with you of course!!!Again, than you so much for letting us stay at your home. It was beautiful and we loved every moment!

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home in Annisquam (Gloucester) was just perfect for our recent family reunion for a wedding/anniversary celebration. Rather than put our family into four different hotel rooms, we looked into renting this home for the 6 of us. (Two couples, two singles) With 3.5 bathrooms - one on each floor plus and extra powder room on the first floor - there was never a "line" for the facilities! The home is beautifully maintained and it is in a quiet residential area. A short walk up the hill and you can take in the breathtaking views of the bay with stunning sunset views.

Although we didn't have time to use the outdoor areas (and the remnants of Hurricane Matthew made it impossible on Sunday), there is a porch and patio area that would be great for dining or just relaxing with a drink and a good book. Speaking of books, just up the road and nestled into the side of the hill is a free community tiny box library. Take a book and if you don't finish it before you finish your vacation, you are welcome to keep it. How nice is that?!

The house comes with a very well-equipped kitchen. We were able to easily prepare meals. Our octogenarian mom, who can not navigate more than a few steps, was very comfortable in the downstairs bedroom with her own private bath. This was a big plus over all the other properties we saw and really met our needs extremely well. My only suggestion would be to add a small television downstairs as she was unable to join us on the 3rd floor to watch the news/weather/football game. As for the third floor, it is a gameroom/den/bedroom all-in-one great place to hang out! The men in our group camped out up there. They say it was because the WiFi was better (it was), but the real draw was the football game.

We were in town for a family wedding and 60th anniversary celebration, but we took in a nature walk at the Ipswich River Sanctuary (Mass Audubon Society) early Saturday, which is about 40 minutes away by car, but worth the ride if you are a bird watcher. Bring birdseed! The birds will eat right out of your hands! We also took in some of the regular attractions - like the "Down to Sea" fisherman statue on the seawall. Gloucester is a beautiful town with a rich history and we enjoyed our all-too-brief visit very much.

We would recommend this home to anyone needing space, peace and quiet. Ken and Mary are lovely to work with and have thought of everything - even a binder chock full of information and travel brochures!

Owner's Response: Thanks you for much for taking the time to review our property. You described the house, location, and Cape Ann much better than I could have. You were great tenants, and we appreciate that. Your suggestion of an extra TV is being addressed. We appreciate all suggestions. We like to make the house as appealing as possible and to accommodate the needs of as many renters as possible.

two weeks in lovely home

  • 4 of 5

We just got back from renting this property for two week 7/23-8/6. It really was perfect for my 3 teenagers. The two girls had their own beautiful bedrooms, and my 19 yo had the whole upstairs. We joined him in the evenings for movies nights.

I loved that there were plenty of beach chairs and "stuff" The place was fully stocked with everything one could need.

My only 2 wishes would be that the master bedroom down stairs had a more comfortable bed. It is a full size. A queen with a better mattress would have been better. (we have a Cal king at home)

Really hard for my husband and I to have a good night sleep. (this is probably the only reason why we wouldn't return)

Wish #2 that the wifi reached down stairs.

We had our laptop and ipads with us and we only could get on line by being upstairs. (which sucks if you want your morning coffee and e-mail while everyone else is sleeping in)

Janet the caretaker was really accommodating and friendly, as well as Mary back in NM

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a mini-family reunion at this beautiful home. The first floor bedroom was perfect for those wanting to avoid stairs. The house was amazing - bright and airy - crisp and clean with everything we needed and then some . . . truely made our family time together very special. I think everyone will remember this trip for years to come.

The owners are wonderful - even mailed an item we left at the house back to us - now that is hospitality!

Thank you!

Charter fishing, hiking, kayaking, antiquing, birding (one of the top areas in the US), sunset schooner cruises, theaters, museums, tours, and there is a mountain bike trail nearby. There are many great local theater and restaurants. Best of all, the beaches and sunsets are beautiful. Gloucester is only 45 minutes by commuter train or car to Boston.
