About Kat Orme
Kat grew up in Orange County and Palm Desert, and moved to Carlsbad during her teenage years. She graduated from Carlsbad High School, which is about 2 miles away from the house. She studied Political Science at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah; studied abroad in Vienna, Austria; and spent 1.5 years in Brasilia, Brazil. Besides spending most of her time with her two adorable kids Kat enjoys surfing, filming/editing movies, and reading. Derek is 100% a Carlsbad native. He was born and raised in the area and graduated from La Costa Canyon High School. Derek studied Accounting at BYU-Provo, completed a study abroad in Jerusalem, Israel, and lived in Andalucia, Spain for two years. Derek loves hiking and canyoneering in the outdoors, skiing, and experiencing other cultures. Kat and Derek met in college, got married in San Diego, and spent four years working in Washington D.C. In 2016 they moved back to Carlsbad. Their two children are the greatest joy in their lives. The Orme family loves taking advantage of weekends at the beach, seeing family, and watching their children learn and grow. We enjoy getting to know our guests too!

Why Kat Orme chose Olde Carlsbad
We've seen a lot of the world and it is hard to beat Carlsbad: the perfect mix of opportunity and beach culture. Our home gives you a spacious opportunity to relax when you aren't out exploring, but still bask in the views of the Pacific and our Buena Vista Lagoon. Since we travel as guests we know the value of communication, cleanliness, and having the essentials for an enjoyable stay.
What makes this Guest House unique
We fell in love with the view from our home and the outdoor spaces in which to enjoy it. The spacious home lets in a lot of light and air which made us feel uplifted and relaxed.

This is our second year staying at Olde Carlsbad. It’s not right on the beach, but we like the quiet location. We love the tub and the openness of the place. We were sad the DVD movie collection was gone this year. It was the perfect size for our small family of 3!
Big and bright with a great view
Comfy bed. Lots of space. Very private. A beautiful deck with a fire pit. Noise from the hwy, which is quite far off, was a surprise but I quickly got over it. I’d recommend the Penthouse to anyone who is looking for privacy and comfort.
Roomy and comfortable
This home has spacious rooms and is very close to the beach.
Great space, excellent location
My wife and I stayed here with our 5 year old and 2 year old. Huge bedroom that had a queen bed, plus queen air mattress plus pack and play with room left over. Very pleasant deck to unwind at the end of the day. Very comfortable. We particularly liked the access to beach toys and chairs (and we took FULL advantage of them...sorry for the sand) Would recommend and stay again. Only heads up I'd leave is that there is no cable and the wifi signal wasn't that strong. Ton of DVDs available however, something for everyone. Very clean, very pleasant.
Quiet place, with a beautiful view.
We were on the go so much we didn't spend a whole lot of time there. I would stay there again.
Spacious, comfortable and clean with lots of extras!
We had a really great stay. The pictures don't do this place justice- it is so spacious and well kept. The bed is comfortable, everything is new and in great shape and there are tons of extras like a bluetooth speaker, tupperware, saran wrap, baggies, coffee, beach chairs/ umbrella, crib, booster seat etc. Kat and Derek were were great at communicating and made sure we had everything we needed. The huge windows made for great sunset views but also kept the place nice and cool with the breeze. We would absolutely stay here again!
Carlsbad offers everything you need for a fun getaway. We have it all: 7+ miles of sandy beach coastline, Carlsbad Premium Outlets and boutique shopping in Carlsbad Village, the flower fields, Legoland California, fine and casual dining, parks and hiking trails, and extremely easy access to the Coaster or I-5 to get to downtown San Diego. As the locals like to say “Life’s Rad in Carlsbad."
We are a half mile from Interstate 5. Cannot hear noise with doors closed.
