About Jon Huntington - Ledgelawn Cottage since 1996

Jon Huntington is a retired engineer /scientist married to my wife Nina (Nurse and college professor)

Jon Huntington - Ledgelawn Cottage since 1996 purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Jon Huntington - Ledgelawn Cottage since 1996 chose Maine

I bought this property when I retired because I spent my summers on the New Meadows as a boy. I would spend hours investigation the tidal pools in the rocks inspecting nearly microscopic shrimp, snails, fish and other fauna. Later I would fish, row and sail to explore the local islands.

What makes this cottage unique

the cottage sits on about 3/4 acre with a small private beach. the 11 ft tides are amazing. your views are constant;y changing. We offer a 16' canoe to explore the coast or fish and have a dock if you want to launch your own boat.

Summer vacation in Maine for extended family of 5 adults, a toddler and an infant

  • 5 of 5

Charming camp style house right on the water in West Bath. This is a very quiet location with almost no traffic on the road in front of the house. The water view was terrific. The tide rises and falls 12 feet so the shore line is constantly changing. We saw bald eagles and ospreys every day. The canoes that comes with the house were fun for everyone. The gas grill had 2 full bottles of propane. (that almost never happens with a rental). The bathrooms and kitchen were well stocked with paper goods and cleaning products. There is no current in the water near the house so it is very safe boating. The location is secluded but all your shopping needs are 15 minutes away. Popham Beach is 20 minutes away. Popham is possibly the best beach in Maine. My family has rented dozens of summer vacation homes. We will definitely come back to this one.

Relaxing home with nice view

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time during our stay. The owners were very nice and greeted us when we arrived. The house was stocked with everything we needed. The furniture was a bit dated and some of it could be updated. The view was very nice. There is a hill down to the dock but my boys didn't mind and loved going out at low tide to search for sea glass. Easy drive into town and to the local beaches.

Great location!

  • 3 of 5

This cottage is a great base camp for making trips to Thomas Point Beach which is a short paddle (the canoe is on property) up the river. Our grandkids enjoyed watching the Eiders and their ducklings paddle around the rocks and even saw a seal! The Hamilton Audubon Preserve is a walk away and provides lovely hiking opportunities. Bath and Brunswick are a quick drive away and provide museums, book stores, Farmers' Markets, breweries and restaurants. Good value for the location if you are on a budget.

Peaceful cottage with fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Ledgelawn was our "home" for six weeks between moving from out of state until we closed on our home in Maine. The cottage was clean, kept up well (especially given the home's age), and highly functional -- loads of kitchen stuff from basic cooking utensils through pots for steaming the soft-shell clams and mussels that can be had at low tide with a little work. Our three kids LOVED being right on the water, which meant the washing machine and dryer came in very handy. Ledgelawn is also conveniently located; Bath is a quick drive in one direction, Brunswick a quick drive in the other direction. The owners, Jon and Nina, were welcoming and friendly and quick to fix any issues that came up (eg, the wi-fi went down and I needed a lesson on properly working the heater). They even let our dogs stay with us, a huge relief since they'd have been kenneled otherwise. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend that friends and family do the same, as long as they understand that this is a rustic cottage in the Maine woods with lots of great character. Fancy pants, it is not. Peaceful and functional with loads of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, it is.

Great location - great owner!

  • 5 of 5

Our family took Dad for his 91st birthday and we had a wonderful time. Everything we needed was right at the cottage and it was a great "base camp" for the week. Clean and comfortable, plenty of space for sleeping, eating, and hanging out. Right on the water with a rocky beach for treasure hunting when the tide goes out. My 10 year old niece actually found a message in a bottle! Good times and a great owner who cares that you are happy. Thank you!!
