Situated on a serene, tree-lined avenue on the edge of downtown, this brand-new four-bedroom house is the best of both worlds: It’s in a quiet, secluded neighborhood right next to the Horse Gulch trail system, which leads up into the mountains, but it’s also only a 10- to 15-minute stroll to Main Street’s restaurants, shops and galleries. Designed and built from the ground up as the ultimate vacation home base, the Durango Hideout is equipped with air conditioning as well as indoor-outdoor living spaces. The house features a front deck with a dining table and views overlooking the mountains for long, lazy nights of socializing as well as a back deck with a grill and a shady porch with rocking chairs. For large groups, this house is conveniently right next door to the Treehouse, a three-bedroom vacation rental that sleeps 10 (vrbo #312061). Another house that we own downtown is the Carriage House that sleeps 7 (vrbo# 409501)
The Durango Hideout’s great room features vaulted ceilings, a gas fireplace, reclaimed wood floors, big comfy couches for movie-watching and game-playing, and a hand-built dining table that seats 10. The open kitchen has stainless steel appliances, every tool a cook could want, and an island bar that seats five and is great for casual entertaining.
There are also plenty of entertainment options: The house has three TVs, including a 55-inch LED Smart TV in the great room as well as a 42-inch Internet TV with a DVD player in the den and a 42-inch Internet TV in the master bedroom. We have an arsenal of board games and two bins full of toys for kiddos. (There’s also a Pack N Play, a high chair, a small collection of children’s books, and fun built-in bunk beds in the den/4th bedroom.) The garage securely stores bikes and other equipment.
This house has two floors with the main living area on the second floor. The master bedroom, located on the same level as the great room, has a king bed, a walk-in closet and a beautiful private bathroom. The main level also has an additional half bathroom.
Downstairs, there are three bedrooms that share a bathroom. The second bedroom has a king-size bed and the third bedroom has a queen-size bed. The fourth bedroom, also known as the den, has two hand-built barn doors and features one set of built-in bunk beds and a sturdy, comfy American Leather queen pull-out sofa.
