RAMPART COTTAGE (sleeps 5) CARCASSONNE Foot of Walls of the Medieval City

Bedrooms 3
Space 699 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms with living, bathroom, terrace and garden

This two to three bedroom house is situated at the foot of the ramparts of the Medieval City of Carcassonne It is a traditional stone-built house with a terrace and garden above a garage. From this house you can climb a footpath in 2 minutes to the City. In the other direction, you can walk through trees and parkland to the Aude river, or you can cross the old bridge towards the Bastide Saint Louis with its shops and markets. The airport "Salvaza" of Carcassonne is less than 10 minutes by taxi or by the bus which can drop you at Trivalle , a 300m walk from the house . Please note that Rampart Cottage is situated only a few yards from Rampart Studio, an apartment somewhat smaller --and cheaper-- than the cottage . You can see the Studio also advertised on Home Away. If both properties are hired together (at a reduced rent) it is possible to sleep 9 people.

The ground floor of the Cottage has an open-plan kitchen with an electric oven, a ceramic hob (4 burners), a microwave, a refrigerator with a freezer part and a dishwasher. There is a sitting area with a sofa and two armchairs around a wood burning stove for winter use supplemented by electric radiators in each room -- we supply wood and all heating is free . There is a TV set with box and internet access, a DVD player and a CD player .

On the first floor: A bedroom with double-bed opens onto a smaller bedroom which is mainly used as a TV room but has a sofa-bed where you can sleep one adult or two chidren.

. On the second floor : is a bedroom with two single beds. This is a renovated loft-space with some restricted headroom.

Outside -- 3m from the front door of the house is the garage which is used for storage and washing machine. Above this is a large terrace and a small garden, equipped with tables, chairs, sun beds and a barbecue. This provides a very pleasant sitting-area with views across the rooftops to the ramparts of the city - a place in which to relax in sunshine or in shade. Access to the terrace by a fairly steep staircase , could be difficult for someone with reduced mobility . The street is pedestrianised – which makes for peace and quiet , and safety – with car access for residents and tenants. Cars can then be parked without limits or charges in nearby streets, with some off-road parking. But please note you can have a good holiday here without a car! Note there is an épicerie (groceries, bread, croissants) within 300 yards, open mornings and evenings.

General --- your rent covers minor breakages, cleaning, all bedding & towels, all services. Entry times are usually flexible , from early mornings to late evenings . Most reservations are for periods of one or two weeks but we accept shorter periods of three days minimum .

About Dominique Twentyman

We have had the pleasure of welcoming families for the holidays for over twenty years. We like to interact with our guests over an aperitif, coffee or tea.

Sometimes we organize an outing to make known as for example: Villelongue d'Aude with his concert and organic market during the Summer.

We live at the foot of the medieval city of Carcassonne and we love to share this busy history with families or groups in our apartment ramparts and share this beautiful region of Languedoc.

Dominique Twentyman purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Dominique Twentyman chose Carcassonne

The cottage is located in one of the oldest districts of Carcassonne. It is nestled at the feet of the Remparts. You will find peace and pleasure to enjoy its garden and terrace. and especially the direct access and almost "private" to reach the City by the Porte de l'Aude.

What makes this cottage unique

To visit the city, you are two minutes walk and you pass the Porte de l'Aude you find yourself in medieval history with these streets and facades with traces of stalls. No need for a car ...

Lovely cottage and great location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was great typically French rustic but had all the necessary amenities. It was very comfortable and the terrace was really great. Location was good only a five minute walk to the Medieval City and a few minutes walk in the other direction to a couple of shops for our french bread, cheese and wine! Dominique and Tom were very helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much. Maggie, Lynda and Maureen.

Charming and extremely welcoming. The rooftop garden is a little haven and provides welcome shelter from the heat. The owners ( Tom and Dominique) are very helpful. The proximity to the castle and to the bastide is ideal for travellers without a car. I would certainly recommend this property.
