About Michael and Leanne Sharp
We are musicians and educators who have spent the last twenty years working in schools and churches in the New Orleans area. We have enjoyed visiting the Smokies during our breaks over the past few years. We love hiking, biking, and rafting, as well as poking around in antique shops.
Michael and Leanne Sharp purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Michael and Leanne Sharp chose Townsend
Townsend's nickname is "The Peaceful Side of the Smokies," and we love the tranquility and beauty of Laurel Valley. We never get tired of sitting on the front deck and drinking coffee while breathing in the fresh mountain air. From our cabin, surrounded by woodlands, we often enjoy seeing deer, wild turkeys and other wildlife.
What makes this Cabin unique
The floor plan is great when everybody is around, and the covered front porch/deck is a favorite spot. Our three grown children and their families all live in the area and we enjoy having them hang out with "Nana" and "Papi" at the cabin. Being on a cul-de-sac also gives us room for extra parking. During fall and winter we have a clear view of the nearby mountain range. We are near all the major attractions of Pigeon Forge, Dollywood, and Cades Cove. Townsend has a quaint feel to it, with restaurants which are locally owned and operated.

Another great stay at Higher Griund!
Our second year at this perfect cabin. The owners think of everything. We especially love the baby furniture and huge deck that our grandbaby can run around and play on.
Thankyou for choosing Higher Ground Cabin for your return visit to Townsend and the Smokies! Hurry back!
The Laurel Valley area is a great place to stay. Quiet and relaxing. This cabin was much cleaner than others I have stayed in. Very well decorated and cozy.
Excellent Weekend Stay
Everything was great.
Fantastic! Come again soon!
Great time in Tn

Thanks for staying with us...come again soon!
In town for a wedding and I don't think I could've found a better place to stay! Golf, access to country club pool sand clubhouse, local restaurants, Little River to swim and tube in and of course the Smokies. We also grilled out on the high-rise deck! Awesome place!
So happy to hear about your stay w us...and Congratulations!
Townsend, Tennessee is a gateway community to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Visitors to Townsend enjoy the Peaceful Side of the Smokies. Townsend is rich in wild life - most visitors come with hope of seeing the ever popular Black Bear that inhabit the Park and surrounding areas.
Higher Ground' is nestled into the woods and is extremely private. You'll feel you have arrived at a tree house getaway! There is an abundance of wildlife in Laurel Valley, including bear, deer, wild turkey, hawks and owls - just to name a few.
If cabin sightings are not enough, you can take the short trip to the Cades Cove Loop for another round. You can hike the trails, ride your bike, take photographs, fly fish or tube down the Little River. There are several tubing providers on the river. Most outfitters will hook you up with a tube and river access. You can float down the river for an hour of so. They will pick you up and bus you back to the starting point, only to do it all again. What a way to cool off on hot summer days!
There are dozens of day-rides from Townsend. One of our favorites is to leave Townsend and travel through the Park to Gatlinburg. Take a right at Sugarlands Visitors Center and you can ride to Cherokee, North Carolina in just an hour or so. Enjoy lunch and head back...time to burn. Don't forget to stop at Newfound Gap and Clingman's Dome. DON'T leave without your camera!
The Foothills Parkway is closer to home. Only a couple of miles from Townsend, this ride takes you across the ridge of the mountain with spectacular overlooks, to Chilhowee Lake. At the end of the Parkway, take a left and you're on the Tail of the Dragon --- 318 curves in 11 miles --- not for the faint of heart.. A longer ride will take you to Tellico Plains for lunch at the Tellico Plains Bakery, a great place to enjoy a meal before heading back to Townsend or across the Cherohala Skyway. I could spend hours talking about this; so just ask when you call.
A short, 30-minute ride from Townsend will land you in Pigeon Forge. A great place to visit but NOT the quiet side by any stretch of imagination. It's the center for entertainment and shopping in the Smokies. Home to the Tanger Outlets, countless restaurants and entertainment spots and the ever popular Dollywood.
Come join us in Townsend! On the Peaceful Side of the Smokies.
We look forward to hearing from you.
