Casa Tranquiladad is a beautiful traditional Mexican home located in the historic district with excellent views of the famous city center and the surrounding country side. The house is situated on a main thoroughfare and is conveniently located near a variety of cuisine, shopping and only 3 1/2 blocks (4-5 minute walk) from the town center (Jardin).
The picturesque colonial architecture of San Miguel de Allende and the vibrant art and culture, including an array of festivals, attract visitors from all over the world. After a busy day enjoying San Miguel, come home to an inviting living room with a gas fireplace and relax with a good book. Modern amenities such as Cable TV, a DVD player, and internet connection are available. Monday-Saturday arrivals preferred (due to staff availiablity).
The dining room has wood beam ceilings, a gas burning fireplace, and the locally hand-crafted table seats eight. The kitchen is fully equipped for all cooking adventures. A gas dryer and washer are located on the premises. The entrance to the second level patio is lined with lush greenery and the patio is surrounded by potted plants and ambient lighting for a relaxing outdoor evening. The guest bedroom has a double bed, sofa, gas fireplace, private bathroom/shower, and a walk-in closet.
The master bedroom is located on the second level and is reached through a covered stairway. The master patio provides stunning views of the city, especially at night when the La Parroquia (central parish church) is illuminated. The master bedroom has a king size bed, boveda ceiling, thermostat controlled gas burning fire place, built-in closet, and a private shower/bathroom.
Many activities take place within the town center and other attractions are located nearby: bilingual library, language & art schools, cultural events, movies, live theatre, gyms, thermal pools, tennis, golf, horse back riding, hiking, shopping, and easy access to the nearby historic cities of Queretaro and Guanajuato. The home is suitable for children ages 12 and up.
Casa Tranquilidad is a delightful, comfortable and beautiful accommodation! Furnishings are of a high quality; colourful tiles decorate the kitchen and bathrooms; and the art surrounding us in every room was a delight to the eyes.
We were two couples staying for the month of April, 2017 and enjoyed the separation of sleeping accommodations on separate levels and the fact that the entertainment, dining and kitchen facilities were on another floor so that each couple could have personal time without constantly bumping into each other.
The kitchen is so well-equipped with every convenience a foodie might want for whipping up gourmet meals - which we did regularly. The large gas stove with 6 flames is ideal for cooking with multiple pots all of which are heavy and conduct heat so well that a meal is cooked up quickly and to perfection. I brought my own favourite spices and was glad I did as these items can add a lot to the grocery shopping and may be difficult to find when one isn't familiar with Spanish.
The views from the patio connected to the Master bedroom on the upper level are jaw-droppingly beautiful as one looks right down onto the Parroquia and often one can see hot air balloons hovering in the sky over the town then drifting down into the valley.
The only drawback is the over-whelming road noise outside the house as buses and trucks grind their way up the hilly Salida de Queretaro which is a main road. My husband solved the problem by using earplugs but the rest of us weren't so sensible. Probably if we'd spent more time enjoying margaritas in the Jardin, we would have flopped off to sleep more quickly and not noticed a thing until the fireworks went off, which happens regularly.
This is a happy, friendly town so it's best if one can just enjoy the atmosphere and come back to the Casa for rest and relaxation.
The location on the Salida is at the top of a rather steep hill. The whole town is like a living stair-master, in fact! We found it best to walk down to the Jardin in the cool of the morning and do our long walks before the heat set in about noon. After a good lunch, take a taxi (cheap at 40 pesos) back to the Casa for siesta. Such a wonderful practice! Then back into the Centro for a delicious meal on one of the roof-top restaurants when I wasn't in the mood to cook.
We will definitely return to SMA and highly recommend Casa Tranquilidad!
Our first visit to San Miguel de Allende for the month of January was so fine. The moment we opened the doors to Tranquillidad the photos on VRBO came to life and we relaxed immediately. The suitcases stayed unpacked as we were awed by the artistic decor, lovely tile, authentic design style, boveda ceilings, magnificent views, comfortable and classic furniture, lush flora, outdoor patios, gorgeous table and glassware, and beds that later provided the best sleeps ever. All of the above outweighed the short but steep walk from the Jardin and the noisy traffic nearby.
We loved the proximity to the grocery store (Bonanza), bakery (Cumpanio), cafes (favs: San Augustin and El Correo), restaurants (favs: El Ten Ten Pie, Bugambilia, El Pegasa, and La Posadita), Biblioteca and Instituto, and the Angela Peralta Theatro.
Every day was sunny so we made good use of the chaises on the 2nd floor terrace during siesta.
Praises go to Beti who keeps Tranquillidad a spotless home and to Luis whose gardening expertise is evident everywhere you look.
We shall return.
We will return
March 2011 was my seventh visit to San Miguel. Each year I choose a different house in a different part of town. Spending a month in a home really gives you the time to understand the neighborhood and house. Casa Tranquilidad quickly became my favorite!
I spend part of my month solo in San Miguel. Casa Tranquilidad is close enough to all of my favorites restaurants and bars to feel comfortable walking home alone in the evening. When my elderly mother arrived for her visit, the cabs were able to pull directly to the front door for her.
The home is so secure that on cool quiet nights I was able to sleep with my bedroom doors open! This is San Miguel and fireworks and noisy cars are part of it, so laugh and put a pillow over your head on celebration nights or grab some coffee and watch the hot air ballons sail by your balcony or lay in your very comfy kingsize bed and watch the fireworks explode into the wee hours. On those sleepy mornings jump in the huge glass topped shower and gaze at the view of town..yes, from the shower!
Now you must love adventure and steps (52 from the street to the top..to be exact) if you stay at Casa Tranquidad. The Indoor/Outdoor living in San Miguel is not uncommon and allows for a very private stay (and balcony) for each bedroom. The steps up to the third floor master are large pretty and well lit. My 82 year old mother had no problem with her stay on the second floor.
The house is well stocked and has wonderful appliances. Our favorite thing..grab a bag of mandarinas from the mercado and enjoy the best juice in the world from the best juicer on the planet!
The media/living room is away from the rest of the house so those who love t.v. don't spoil it for those who do not. There are plenty of channels for the surfers and plenty of books for the readers.
The housekeeper is so helpful that she even helped my mother across the busy street on one of her many walks to town. Even Mom thought is was close enough to walk....less than four blocks to the Jardin.
All to say..stay at Casa Tranquidad..but PLEASE not in March because I want to return in 2012!
