Rustic Elegance in Lakeside Cabin - Bike from Cabin to Cuyuna Bike Trails
About Vrbo #1148179
We are Don & Cindy Engen. After retiring from the US Army, we built this cabin, living here for 13 years. In 2014, we had the opportunity to teach on the island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. We still live on Kwajalein. Not living in our cabin, and not willing to put it up for sale, we decided to let others enjoy all that it has to offer. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we enjoyed living here!
Vrbo #1148179 purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why Vrbo #1148179 chose Deerwood
After having traveled the world during 20+ years of active duty in the Army, we chose to build our cabin in a small town in a location that offered four distinct seasons, each with their own unique beauties. It's nice being away from life in the big city.
What makes this Cabin unique
It's a great area to "get away from it all." The local bike trails are truly world class, and are only getting better. The recreational opportunities offered by the local lakes are unlimited. Local hunting and fishing are top notch. Antiquing just doesn't get any better. The fall colors rival that of any place on earth. You can have all that, plus the quiet beauty of a campfire on [almost private] Black Lake. Here you'll really find what being "Up North at the Lake" is all about. Come and enjoy it!

Ideal for family retreat
The property is lovely and spacious with obvious attention to detail- both inside and outside. The kitchen area was well stocked with appliances, making it easy to prepare meals. The activities on site entertained our 3-generation family for the long weekend. Brad was an attentive property manager who checked in us by text every day.
We found a real gem and plan to return for another stay.
Great place for family getaway
This was the second time I was able to stay at this incredible place with a large group. It works perfectly for multiple families staying for a long weekend and Brad was very responsive. We love this house and location and look forward to gathering there for future occasions!
Great place to stay at.
Perfect north woods vacationing spot. Quiet and relaxing.
Excellent cabin, many details taken care of. Great touches like smores ingredients included and property sprayed for bugs. Lots of lake toys made trip very enjoyable
Recently [July 2019] completed paved biking trails allow you to ride your bike from the Deerwood Cabin to the spectacular Cuyuna Lakes Bike Trails, which are 28 miles of Red Gold that twist their way through the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, and the towns of Deerwood, Crosby, Ironton, Cuyuna, and Riverton. Over 30 purpose-built trails to choose from, everyone from beginner to pro, can enjoy the breath-taking rides and overlooks.
