Sunny 1890s Farmhouse, Private, Large Meadow, near Beach

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6

This lovely, remodeled, antique farmhouse near Sylvester's Cove is the perfect antidote to today's busy lifestyle. Situated on an interior lot with four private acres, the house is sheltered on the north by a grove of pines. To the south, lawns and a large meadow edged with old apple trees provide lots of space for lounging or playing. The views are pastoral (one house visible through the trees beyond the meadow), and the Sylvester's Cove beach is only a five-minute walk away.

Life in the farmhouse is simple and relaxing. The spacious living room boasts comfortable furniture, a west-facing bay window, a sea chest full of games and puzzles, and lots of books. The sunny, old-fashioned, eat-in kitchen overlooks the meadow and the barn.

For those who wish to bring a computer, we provide wireless DSL Internet access. There is also a DVD player and monitor.

Additional photos and information available on request.

Peace and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

This was a special trip for my husband and I. We spent our honeymoon in Boothbay and Bar Harbor, Maine 20 years ago. We decided to travel back to celebrate our anniversary but this trip included our 4 children. We couldn't decide between the two areas so we ended up in the middle, Deer Isle. What a beautiful, quaint town. I had spoke to Betsy, the homeowner through email and phone when booking our trip and she was very pleasant and informative. We also had the pleasure of meeting her sister Allison, the other homeowner.

We were so excited to be staying in an old farm house for the week. Everything was exactly how Betsy described. The house sits back off of the road with no one really in site. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet. The property was quite large so my children had plenty of space to play football and frisby. Sylvester's Cove is only a 5 minute walk from the house so some evenings we would watch the sun go down. What a view. The view of the stars and moon from the porch of the house was also amazing. If the mosquitoes were a bothersome, then we would stay in and play UNO or other card games at the kitchen table. Plenty of room for a family of 6.

The house itself was also quite spacious. The kitchen had every dish, gadget, anything you would need plus stocked with extra paper products. My husband and I really liked cooking with the rawed iron pan.

Each bedroom had a nice dresser and closet. The beds and bedding were all very comfortable. They provide extra towels and linens which was a plus.

This was one of the most relaxing trips my family and myself had in long time.

I highly recommend renting this home.

The perfect comfortable, peaceful family retreat

  • 5 of 5

The farmhouse is a spacious, comfy, well loved home-from-home. We too just loved the sense of space and light and every room was perfectly equipped for our needs. Sunset is ideally situated in the middle of Deer Isle which is a great holiday location. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for peace and quiet, plenty land for running around and games, easy access to the shore and all else Deer Isle and area has to offer. Betsy was the perfect host, great with communication, advice, directions etc. Thanks for everything!

I absolutely love the Farmhouse!

We've been staying at the Farmhouse for years! We come every summer for the local Lobster Boat Races and the house is absolutely perfect for what we need. It's spacious, a quick walk (1/4 mile) to the beach and full of charm!

Well-kept secret

  • 4 of 5

We have stayed in several places in the general Deer Isle/Blue Hill area, this was our favorite. It's an old farmhouse in the middle of a field, well off the road. It is simple, quiet, and lovely.Very comfy furniture and beds. On the ocean side of Deer Isle, it has nice walks to two different beautiful coves. It's only missing a screened-in porch or a deck, but otherwise great.

Amazing home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We spend two fabulous weeks at the farmhouse on Deer Isle.

The farmhouse is beautiful, clean, nicely decorated and fully-equiped. It is conveniently located within walking distance to the beach, a short drive to quaint towns of Maine and far away from the stresses of daily life.

The farmhouse was the ideal location for us to reconnect as a family, sleep in, enjoy the beach, watch the kids play in the front of the house and catch a glimpse of deer and fireflies while sitting in the kitchen.

Betsy was wonderful to deal with and patiently answered all out questions and concerns.

We had a wonderful time and will make a point of returning for future vacation getaways.

Thank you, Betsy and Elisabeth, for sharing your piece of heaven with us.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful, old-fashioned vacation, flying kites, making ice cream, looking for shells, reading books. We not only survived the lack of TV, we thrived! For serious art lovers, check out G. Watson Gallery in Stonington, as well as Turtle Gallery in Deer Isle and Pitcher Masters toward Haystack. The of Haystack are great and kid friendly.
