Never been to Gillamoor before and was pleasantly surprised. Its perfect for a quiet get away, but only a few miles to so many tourist attractions. eg. Helmsley castle, Ryedale Folk Museum and Dalby forest to name but a few. The cottage has a warm welcome as soon as you walk through the door. Its well equipped and has every you need including logs for the woodburner which we took advantage of. The owners have thought of everything, from maps, free passes to Dalby forest and a lovely hamper filled with wine and other goodies. Look forward to going back in the summer.
Three of us stayed in The Cottage for a week in September 2016 and had a really great time. We chose it over others we were considering because it looked more spacious and had a lot of character, and we did not regret our choice. Parking was really easy, always available just outside the door. The cottage was spotless, the shower was hot and strong, the kitchen was very well equipped and it was lovely to have a nice bit of garden too. The beds were really comfy and the seating in the lounge was just right to curl up in. We had a really warm welcome from Claire and a welcome hamper too (I'm afraid the wine and biscuits didn't last very long!). The Royal Oak, just around the corner, had excellent meals (we ate there 3 times!) and it was nice to get back to a warm, cosy cottage. The village was so quiet we heard owls at night. It's location meant we easily visited the moors, Robin Hood's Bay, Castle Howard and even managed a trip to Edinburgh and back. There were plenty of leaflets with lots of information on local facilities, as well as Claire's own information file, which was ideal. We would certainly consider staying again, and would heartily recommend it to friends and relatives.
We had a great stay in this cottage, the bed was so comfy, the owners welcoming and flexible, the cottage is kitted out with all you could wish for and more...we couldn't fault it. We visited Castle Howard and made use of the free pass to Dalby forest supplied by the owners. We had a couple of meals in the pub just around the corner - very good and reasonably priced too.
We cannot wait to return and have booked again for autumn.
A well equipped cottage in a beautiful location. We've had great days in Gillamoor. We enjoyed our holidays and made many trips to the coast and cities in the neighbourhood.
