My wife and I have been renting out the lake house continuously since we finished the complete renovation of the property
Keith and Louise Donington purchased this house in 2004
The panoramic lake view is incredible all year round, whether sunny, raining or snowing. The house is located near the end of a private dead end road so is secluded, away from traffic, with a wooded mountain behind the property .The water is clean and is not polluted with millfoil
The area is extremely beautiful, and generally uncrowded. The Monadnock Region, 'is the road less traveled' compared to other vacation areas of NH.
The beautiful and secluded private setting were the key reasons why we bought the house.
Wonderful! This house was absolute perfection. So many places to gather and enjoy the amazing views! You can see the beautiful lake from the kitchen, dining room, porches, game room, sitting area, everywhere! We hosted a couple of families while we were there, and it was perfect for entertaining. The kids all loved the loft bedroom and the game room - you'll never hear the teenagers whine "I'm bored" while in this house!
The house was very well equipped - we didn't want for anything. There were puzzles, board games, oodles of pool noodles, every kitchen appliance we could ask for, and even linens and bath towels were provided. We put the kayaks and the canoe to good use and those were a huge bonus. My husband and I took turns swimming across the lake and back while the other kayaked and that was a fun challenge (about a 1/2 mile each way). We also canoed the whole perimeter of the lake and that took about 2.5 hours and I would definitely recommend going for that, too. The lake was warm, clean, and not busy during the weekdays. Sunsets were beautiful from the house and/or the docks (sunrises were gorgeous too, but you have to take a boat out to see).
We saw some great wildlife, including two bald eagles! We also saw loons, herons, and a porcupine. While the neighboring houses are close, it's hard to notice that because there are many trees and lots of vegetation between the properties. It felt very private, and it was generally very quiet (just one loud party nearby one of the nights - otherwise, just crickets!). Speaking of bugs - there were none?? Strange, I know. I've never spent time near water without mosquitoes feasting!
Honestly, this place was so great I almost don't want to write a review so I can keep it all to myself :-). But the owners here deserve this great review. The house was pristine, communication easy and prompt, and check in easy breezy. This was a big step up from our usual rental (haha in both price and in luxury!), and we're so glad that we splurged. Thank you so much Keith and Louise!!
PS, a few tips: We recommend the German bakery & the Mediterrano restaurant (both delicious and nearby in Hillsboro). We have AT&T and we had zero cell service (yay!), so bring a calling card. It would probably be worth printing up a map in advance in case your GPS loses its signal (ours did not, but some guests' did). Start the shower at the 6 o'clock position (I think the graphic is backwards).
We have spent both Christmas and Thanksgiving at this lovely property and can't praise it enough! There are amenities for everyone to enjoy. We had the whole family join us for both holidays and it will always be thought of as a very special place. We were unable to take advantage of the lake activities, due to the time of year....although we did enjoy the sight of a sea plane landing on the water periodically. We loved the wild bird life that came every day to the porch. Even an Eagle visited us! Keith and Louise are the best owners you could wish for....always willing to answer questions and suggest local attractions! We did most of our own cooking, and used the BBQ even on wintery days, as the house was always so warm to come into. We visited an elk farm, had breakfast in our favourite diner in Hillsborough, and loved the restaurant/pub Tooky Mills. With a well stocked Shaw's nearby to get groceries and NE lobster....we had all we could possibly want to make our vacation the very best.
This property provided everything we needed to have a pleasant vacation. Plenty of room and amenities; a beautiful, clean lake; a dock for our boat; privacy; and a great price for what we got! Keith and Louise were gracious enough to help us get our boat to their home, and show us around the property at the start of our vacation-something we haven't experienced before in other rental locations. Not too far from Keene and Concord for those who need to venture out into more populated areas. We didn't feel the need, though. Lots of stairs to manage from the lake to the house, which may bother some, but great for those who want a little extra workout everyday! Franklin Pierce Lake is a clean, milfoil-free lake. Warm waters and not very busy during the week.
When 1st pulling up to the lake our GPS in the rental said we were there, we looked to the right and there was nothing but a Johnny on the Spot we really started to freak out, but driving up the road a tad further we found the correct address and found Keith & Louise waiting to give us the tour and show us how everything worked. We spent a good week at the cabin and I'll tell you it was the most relaxing vacation we had in a long time (even better then Maui). We spent most of the time in the local area (my wife was originally from here 45 years ago) and just took in the colors of fall. I can't imagine a better place to see it, the cabin was cleaner then most hotels it had everything we needed we cooked most of our meals in the cabin including BBQ out side. I give this rental a 19 out of 10 we will be back !!
This house on Franklin Pierce Lake was one of the nicest places our family has ever stayed. Clean, well kept with conviences provided in the house that made our week stay very comfortable. The lake views were spectacular. We very much enjoyed sipping coffee in the AM on the open deck overlooking the lake . At night we watched the lighted boats go by while relaxing on the screened in deck over looking the lake. We spent alot of time on the lake side deck and dock, as well. Swimming and fishing off the dock was great fun. We did alot of kyaking in the lake. The motor boats and wind made kayaking somewhat of a workout with the waves but it was a nice change from the quiet lakes we usually kayak on. We had a wonderful week and would absolutely recommend this lake house.
A very relaxing place to fish off the dock ,enjoy the ping pong table in the evening. A lot of activities ,kayaking, canoeing and enjoying the lake wildlife. Shopping is about 10 to 15 minutes away. Caught a lot of crappie and a nice 2lb bass.
