Charming

  • 4 of 5

We recently stayed at the waterfront house. The house is charming and was a wonderful home base as we traveled and explored during the day, we came back to the dock to prop our feet up and recoup.

The amount of birds, are fun to watch, we were treated to shows of eagles swooping down to catch their breakfast in the morning, Seals hanging out in cove, and baby geese.

A Perfect Location to Explore Mount Desert Island

  • 3 of 5

We had high hopes when we rented this property for our fourth of July week vacation and were not disappointed. You are on a main road, so there is some traffic noise, but we quickly stopped noticing it. The house is centrally located on the island making Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Southwest Harbor and anywhere else you wanted to go a short drive.

The house is very clean, has all the kitchen appliances you need to be able to prepare and enjoy meals with a terrific view of Sommes Sound. It is very comfortable and comes with a dock and kayaks that we used a lot.

I can't say enough good things about this rental. The owner was very responsive and attentive. This is a place I wouldn't hesitate to rent again. If you want to enjoy all that Mount Desert Island has to offer, this is a great location from to do it.

beautiful shore frontage, comfortable home

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful view out over the water, with eagles coming every night between 6 and 7. Great to have the kayaks, the water is beautiful and calm. Kitchen very nice, lacks some quality cutlery. Only irritant is the noise from the highway. The view helped make us forget the noise. no air conditioning, but the temperature rarely is hot enough for that to be an issue. Very clean, very good customer service, would recommend to a friend, especially a group of friends. All Bar Harbor activities are easily accessible.

Great Location, Beautiful View!

  • 5 of 5

This comfortable and well stocked home in the quiet, historic small town of Somesville was the perfect place to stay, and central to exploring MDI, Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park. The owner, Wendyl, has furnished and decorated so that visitors feel they are welcome guests in a friend's home. Of course, the view from the breakfast nook bay window drew our attention whenever we were "home". The Alewive's, (a type of herring), were spawning and came into the cove to swim up the fish ladders right outside our windows. As the tide receded each day, we watched dozens of Seagulls, many Ospreys and several Bald Eagles as they feasted on the Alewives that were stranded in the low water. With the binoculars Wendyl provided, we could watch fishermen setting their lobster traps in Somesville Sound.

We also enjoyed our "neighbors", at the Library and Art Studio next door.

If you want to be close to everything, but not in the middle of the crowds, traffic, and commercial/tourist areas on MDI, then you will enjoy this home.

Wendyl was very easy to work with and provided us with all the information we needed to enjoy his home and our vacation in Maine.

Perfect place and location!

  • 5 of 5

The property is wonderful and the setting is perfect. The pictures don't do it justice. If you are planning to visit Acadia National Park I'm convinced there is no better place to stay! Centrally located, you are close to all that the island has to offer. We saw eagles out back constantly (even a bald eagle). We kayaked out a sort distance with Wendyl's supplied kayaks and saw a seal in the cove. We had a fantastic trip and we plan to visit again someday soon! Thanks Wendyl!!!

Excellent rental for your Maine vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great vacation rental for your stay on Mount Desert Island near Bar Harbor and Acadia Natl Park. The house is just a few miles from both of them. We loved the views from all the rooms, and the deck. We saw a bald eagle at least once every day, and saw osprey and gulls hunting fish during the low tides! The house itself is clean and well-equipped, and the owner is very pleasant to deal with. Highly recommend!
