'Beautiful rustic home (4 bedrooms) nestled in the woods with a private brook, frog pond and miles of hiking trails right out the back door, loved by all who have stayed here. Peace and quiet. The house is open from June 15 through Columbus Day weekend. We accept long weekend rentals after Labor Day.

Monadnock Region: The Covert (pronounced kuhvert, a secluded or hidden place) is close to Monadnock State Park, Pack Monadnock (auto road to summit), Peterborough Players, Monadnock Music, Shattuck Golf Course, Coll's Farm Stand and Sugar House, Rosaly's Garden and Farm Stand, the Friendly Farm (for children), Mariposa Cultural Museum, and several lakes for swimming. Why Rachel Schwartz, Manager chose Monadnock Region

This house was built by my Grandfather in 1907. It was briefly owned by family friends, and we bought it back in 2000. My Grandfather used boards and beams from a falling down barn, and five different kinds of woods on the property for the floors. We spent our summers here growing up, with a wood, and a kerosene stove, an ice box, and our milk was stored in the spring in front of the house. It's still there.

Our weekend was wonder filled

  • 4 of 5

The Covert offered a terrific setting, location for three generations as we traveled to the Mt. Monadnock area for a wedding. The setting, space, and communication with the owners was superb! We enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace, the fall foliage and easy access to a trail up to Monadnock! We hope to return to the Covert and soak up the Serenity that it offers! Thank you Dick and Rachel

Absolutely a perfect place to vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was our fourth time staying at the Covert over the last 6 years and once again we were completely satisfied. We live in Louisiana but our parents are originally from New Hampshire and therefore the majority of our family lives in that area. We are a family of 6 girls and when we visit we have at least 3 of the six families with us and our dad so we need the space to not only house the troupe we bring but to have plenty of room to entertain as well. The cabin is rustic, hardy and secluded enough that we never disturb anyone with our gatherings. We are usually there for a 2 week period and the Covert has everything we need to feel like we are at home. The family that visits us while we are there always comment on what a perfect set up this is for our needs and how much they enjoy the cabin when they visit. Special thanks to Mr. Richard for checking in on us when we are there and attending to our needs. Looking forward to visiting again next summer!!

Just like coming home again

  • 5 of 5

Once again this year everything was perfect and as we expected. The willingness of the owners to treat us as family was once again appreciated.

Absolutely Perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

We have family in Keene, NH and we needed room for 7 for a 4th of July reunion. The Covert fit the bill to a T. The communication for the reservation and during the stay was excellent. The bedrooms were comfortable--lots of windows with a fan made it very nice for sleeping. The kitchen is well equipped--and with 7 of us, the dishwasher was really helpful. The small enclosed porch gave the adults a nice gathering area while the 4 year old tired himself out playing with a beach ball on the large enclosed porch. We had the "cabin in the woods" experience but with comfort & convenience. WiFi kept everyone in touch with the things they needed to handle while away from home, and it was actually wonderful to go without TV for a week. We talked, played games, and made some wonderful memories as a family. Thanks so much!

wonderful and peaceful

We loved our stay at this old house. It had everything we needed and was close to our relatives. The owner met us at he home and showed us around. Just a short walk to one of the trails to the top of Mt Monadnock. Just wish we could have stayed longer.

This was just what we needed!!

  • 5 of 5

This rustic cabin in the woods at the base of Mt. Mondadnock was perfect! The house was clean, well stocked and even had a dishwasher! We only had to bring our groceries. (the store was easy to find) There were 4 bedrooms with comfortable beds and 3 bathrooms and it was just right for 8 people. We had a fire in the fireplace almost continually and then had a bonfire in the open field on our last night and we toasted S'mores. The best part was the quiet woods and the stars. :) We will be back next year when we visit our daughter again.
