Kewanee House is a lakefront rental property, tastefully decorated, which comfortably sleeps eight to ten people in three bedrooms.
Nestled in the heart of Northeastern Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains lies Lake Kewanee. This 80 acre lake, part of the Tunkhannock Creek Watershed, offers tranquility and natural beauty in all seasons. A private, quiet, and clean lake (no gas motors permitted), Lake Kewanee offers an unspoiled natural experience.
Kewanee House has been lovingly updated by new owners and features all of the amenities of a well-appointed guest house with all the comforts of home. Elegant fabrics and antiques mix with family treasures and flea market finds in perfect proportion to create a handsome and charming cottage atmosphere. Hardwood floors throughout and white woodwork complement a classic color palette of greens, blues and yellows.
The spacious first floor contains a game room, kitchen, bedroom, full bathroom, double (650 square feet) living room.
A brand new deck (Spring 2004) features a gas grill and large outdoor dining table. There are two bedrooms on the second floor: (1) one full bed; (2) two twin beds, crib, and roll away bed if needed. Both second floor bedrooms are cooled in the summer by ceiling fans, which provide ample comfort given Kewanee House's mountaintop lakefront site.
We stayed at this house on Lake Kewanee last summer with another couple and our two babies. We LOVED this vacation! We planned on doing some things in Scranton because we thought we'd get bored after 7 days but we only went to the grocery store once and decided we didn't want to leave again.
Every day we sat at the shaded picnic table or in the Adirondack chairs but the lake, ate good food and jumped in the lake every 30 minutes or so. We swam out to the floating dock, rode in the paddle boats, kayak, or row boat. We would end the evenings with a dinner on the deck overlooking the lake, usually with a card game. Needless to say, we are going back next week for another relaxing week at Lake Kewanee. We can't wait!
From swimming, boating, and fishing in the summer to ice-skating and nearby Elk Mountain skiing in the winter, Lake Kewanee is an ideal getaway for a wide variety of outdoor pursuits. Nearby area attractions include golf, tennis, horse back riding, hot air ballooning, scenic airplane tours, antiqueing, seasonal festivals and more. Only two hours and 15 minutes from Philadelphia and New York City, Lake Kewanee is an easy escape.
