Overview

Glen Ellen House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

According to the Los Angeles Times travel section, Tanglewood House is the "perfect location for seeing the Wine Country of Sonoma/Napa." They also praised our "spacious guest suite, gourmet breakfasts, and beautiful garden setting."

Tanglewood House is a serene, romantic retreat in a secluded, park-like setting one mile from the historic village of Glen Ellen in Sonoma County. Located on a quiet country road and surrounded by over an acre of beautiful gardens, our Bed and Breakfast (B&B) is an ideal destination for couples who desire luxurious accommodations, complete privacy, and gracious hospitality when they visit the Sonoma Valley.

As our only guests, you will reside in one of the most spacious and elegantly appointed private suites in the Wine Country. Your sitting room is decorated with numerous works of art and features a fireplace, cathedral ceilings, satellite TV, wireless internet and refrigerator. Your adjoining bedroom overlooks a private patio and is furnished with country pine antiques and a queen-size bed, and the tub and shower in your bathroom are tiled in Italian marble. Your suite also has its own driveway and separate entrance.

In the morning, we serve gourmet breakfasts in your sitting room - fresh fruit and just-squeezed orange juice, French roast coffee, croissants, homemade bread, and entrees such as cheese and mushroom omelets with Canadian bacon, blueberry pancakes, or home fries with sausages. After breakfast, take a moment or two to stroll through our gardens as you prepare for a day of sightseeing. Nearby there are over a dozen fine wineries and Jack London State Park with its hiking trails, picnic areas, and horse rentals. The city of Sonoma, a short seven mile drive from Tanglewood House, is noted for its plaza, fine shops, and acclaimed restaurants.

It takes half-an-hour to drive to Napa Valley, fifty-five minutes to San Francisco, and an hour to the Pacific Coast. In the afternoon when you return to Tanglewood House, unwind by reading a book while you sunbathe by the pool, sip a glass of wine in the gazebo, or play a game of croquet on the lawn. We look forward to hosting your next visit to the Valley of the Moon.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tanglewood House has to be one of our favorite places of all time. There is a certain magical quality to the place and the minute we step on the property we completely let go of our anxieties and enter into a calm, tranquil, beautiful setting that truly ministers to us deeply. We consider Tanglewood House our retreat center, our home away from home.

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from 5 nights in Sonoma. I chose the Tanglewood House because of it's location and reviews. Wow! Mary and John have a little piece of heaven! We started each morning with a delicious homemade breakfast served overlooking their meticulous gardens. Days spent exploring the wineries, parks and coastline. Our favorite destinations included Benziger and Korbel wineries, Bodega Bay, Armstrong Woods, the Russian River Valley and the Glen Ellen Star for dinner. Every night we arrived home to the light on and a new supply of wood for the fireplace. The perfect way to end each day! Thank you Mary and John. You made our trip so relaxing and fun. We hope to return again soon!

We loved being so pampered!

  • 5 of 5

Imagine that you're sitting with your husband at a lovely small table overlooking a beautiful garden, and there are 7 different species of birds at a bird feeder about 5 feet outside your window. You can also see a beautiful gazebo not far away, surrounded by flowers.

Then for your breakfast, Mary first brings in coffee plus a beautiful crystal goblet filled with fresh berries and topped with cream. The goblet sets upon a floral china plate and to the side is a freshly ironed linen napkin. She leaves you to enjoy it and returns in a little while with heated plates of eggs and sausage, or perhaps an omelette, or cinnamon French toast, whatever gourmet delight you choose to have that day. The setting is beautiful, the food divine. Had we come in the winter, we would have had a fire in the fireplace.

Mary and John offer wonderful advice on the areas vineyards, restaurants, and other attractions. We particularly enjoyed the Jack London State Park and took a wonderful hike through the woods with a park volunteer who told us all about the park and museum.

Perfect Sonoma Area Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a wonderful extended weekend at Tanglewood House. The house is located close to Glen Ellen, beautifully landscaped and immaculately maintained. A delicious breakfast is served every morning. Your hosts (John & Mary) make you feel at home. There are two dogs on the property and they are very well behaved. Highly recommend this property.

Wonderful wine week get away

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week staying at Tanglewood House. The breakfasts were superb and location to Napa and Sonoma wonderful. The hosts the Fields were wonderful. A beautiful house and location accommodations were wonderful for our stay. We will visit again! Highly recommend! Loved the family pet Brooklyn who was so excited to see us return.

Everything you could want!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here October 4-7, and found it to be the perfect accommodations from which to enjoy the area. The memory foam bed is fantastic, and we enjoyed the wood-burning fireplace, lovely grounds (wine on the gazebo at night), wonderful (big) breakfasts...it lacked for nothing. One caveat is that you must like dogs! The owners have two dogs, both friendly, and one of them (a very well-behaved border collie) will most likely join you as you walk or relax on the grounds. Our hosts were also great travel guides, and gave us good tips on restaurants and sights to see. If we're ever in the area again, we hope that John and Mary are still in business!

Fantastic rental property and great owners

  • 5 of 5

Our only regret was that we didn't have time to stay longer. John and Mary are great hosts plus Mary's breakfast was terrific and brought to us at the time we designated. The property is just beautiful. The place is extremely clean and well maintained. The location is perfect - a short drive into the town of Glen Ellen for restaurants and to a couple of excellent wineries like Wellington and Loxton. We will definitely stay there again.
