Nestled five kilometres from the picturesque hamlet of Tyne Valley lies Riverbank. A charming, three-bedroom, two-bath country cottage, Riverbank is reached via a kilometre-long earthen road lined in early summer with lupines and verdant farm fields. Perched on the quiet Trout River estuary, the cottage enjoys a private setting that affords visitors ample opportunity for tranquil strolls amidst the surrounding farm fields, relaxing kayak rides, and the perfect spot to absorb a favorite book in the shade of the cooling pines at water's edge.
Both a comfortable deck on the main level and an upstairs balcony off the master bedroom reveal breathtaking vistas of welcoming sunrises, the bucolic landscape, and brilliant sunsets. If serenity and natural beauty are pleasures that you enjoy, then Riverbank is the place for you.
What a lovely drive down the unpaved 'Red Dirt' road leading to Shoreline Drive. The Lupines were definitely at their best. We really enjoyed our stay at 'Riverbank'. The owner Cliff welcomed us upon arrival, showed us around and made sure we had everything we required for a comfortable stay even apologizing for the mosquitoes which we found to be in abundance everywhere in PEI. We loved this bright and clean cottage which was well stocked with everything we needed for our stay and found it very roomy for a group of 5 seniors. We found the location ideal for touring the island and Cliff and Barbara were extremely hospitable and helpful with suggestions of where to go. My husband enjoyed kayaking on the river at the bottom of the garden. Our only disappointment would be that our stay wasn't long enough as we didn't have time to spend more time relaxing at Riverbank after touring the different areas of the island each day.
You can't go past this accommodation. It was everything we had hoped and more. Although a long way from the main towns, it was a perfect place to start and end our days of doing the touristy stuff. Cliff was wonderful answering all my questions honestly and thoroughly when I was trying to decide whether or not it was suitable for my family with 2 teenage girls. We made the decision to take it and were definitely not sorry we did. We've been travelling for some time and this was our absolute favourite. Very affordable as well-you just would not get a house like this closer to the attractions for this kind of price. We loved the kayaks and the fact that we had our own private river. Carolyn also looked after us in Cliff's absence, helping us out when we had a problem with the water-was quickly fixed. The only things missing for a family of 4 females was an iron and hair dryer, but we managed-crushed clothes and wet hair is fine when on vacation :) We so wished we could have stayed longer and were very sad to leave. Thank you!
This was our first trip to PEI and most certainly not our last as long we can stay at the Riverbank cottage again! The minute we got out of our car we felt so welcomed by Cliff. The cottage is impeccable and furnished beautifully and we felt very much at home during our 5 night stay. Thank you Barbara for making sure we had the ingredients to prepare some of our meals!! We loved having the kayaks for our daily paddling down the scenic river. Wonderful memories to take back home until next time.
This was an absolutely wonderful place to stay! The cottage was beautiful and roomy enough for our family of 6. Cliff was there to make sure we had everything we needed. It was great having the bikes and kayaks to use and they were in excellent condition. We enjoyed being right along the river and it was very quiet and peaceful. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Prince Edward Island. Thank you, Cliff for helping to make our vacation extra special!
We stayed for a week in the house, using it both as a base for travel to nearby beaches, biking, alpaca farm, and wonderful food, as well as just hanging out in the nice house and the beautiful yard (playing croquet, soccer or just relaxing)
Cliff, the owner, was very helpful and friendly, pointing us to nice attractions etc.
The property was in mint condition - clean and well maintained. The yard beautiful, with end of the season raspberries and flowers.
We were there with our two boys, aged 10 and 15, and all four of us had a great time.
We had a magnificent time at Riverside Cottage and PEI. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, you will find it here. Sunsets from the decks are breathtaking. The rest of the island is easily accessible from Tyne Valley, so you have the best of both worlds. We would kayak in the morning and tour in the afternoon. The cottage is spacious, well maintained, and has everything you would hope to find in a vacation home. Cliff and Barbara go out of their way to make you feel welcome and make sure your needs are met (and even joined in some evening croquet with our young son)! The only drawback was that we couldn't stay longer!
