THE CRAFTSMAN BEACH HOUSE EXPERIENCE
Orcas Island is the “Gem of the San Juan Islands”! Play on the beach for hours or sit on the porch to enjoy the stunning saltwater and Mt. Baker views. Your home away from home is a 2200 square foot 1920’s Craftsman Bungalow in a lovely quiet knoll with a few homes. Fir floors and high ceilings downstairs, this large, comfortable residence boasts 6 PRIVATE SLEEPING ROOMS with two shared baths and one ensuite bath, making it a perfect vacation home for one, two or even three families! (See “Sleeping Arrangements” below.) On nearly 1 ACRE of grassy lawn, you can enjoy volleyball, football, Frisbee, soccer, bocce, horseshoes, badminton, laying in the sun and evenings around the fire pit. The beach is just 200 yards down the gently rolling lawn and across a quiet lane. EASY TO USE FAMILY FRIENDLY KAYAKS ARE AVAILABLE AT NO CHARGE!
THERE ARE NO HIGH CLIFFS OR DECKS MAKING THE HOME AND BEACH ACCESS SAFE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN AND OLDER ADULTS.
Every day you will be greeted with a view of Puget Sound and the spectacular sight of Mount Baker standing tall in the sunrise. (Weather providing!) The view from the living room, dining room, and covered porch across the big lawn is a joy to wake to each morning. You can see Sucia and Matia Islands with Patos Island just to the north. Relax as you watch the sun rise, see eagles soar and deer graze. The orientation of the house and grounds are open, light and sunny all day and late into the afternoon. The small neighborhood is quiet and friendly. The sun won't glare in your eyes as you watch Mount Baker bathed in the glorious light of sunset.
The beach is in Buckhorn Bay on Orcas Island. At all but the highest tide, you can explore the rocky beach for miles. (Note: The beach ranges from small to large rocks. Most of the beach is privately owned, so walk or explore-but don't camp or loiter.) Our mooring buoy is right in the bay. The free recreational sit-inside kayaks are easy to store at the beach or throw in the back of a truck for transport to another bay for exploring. Many guests have said this home is "better than waterfront" because the beach is so easily accessible. (Many waterfront homes in the San Juans are precariously perched on a rocky shore or on a high bank requiring a drive just to enjoy the beach! And if the home is on the beach, there is rarely a lawn and often the cost of rental is prohibitive.)
Quiet "Buckhorn Knoll" has three spread out homes on acerage just above the waterfront with 7 or so homes. It is pastoral yet beachy and the view of the sound and Mt. Baker is a dominant feature. The public beach access is a short 200 yard walk away. Waterfront owners own their beaches (most far below them out of site), but as long as you don't camp, burn fires or loiter you can explore the beach at all but the highest tide for hours.

It is easy to find food entirely grown or raised on Orcas! Closer still to the house, there is a lovely park with tennis courts, a Skateboard Park (designed and funded by Warren Miller himself) and a basketball court, baseball fields, and bocce court. About Kati Nickerson
We live in north Puget Sound and have two adult children. We spent very summer of their early years sailing the San Juan and Gulf Islands and have traveled with them all over the world, including a once in a lifetime two-week sailing trip in the Greek Islands. We all believe that Orcas Island is the most beautiful place on earth.Sharing our home with others is a great joy and helps make our dream of owning a home in the San Juans possible.
Why Kati Nickerson chose Eastsound
It's the JUST RIGHT place! Room enough for large groups but cozy and warm and sooo comfortable when it is just the two of us. We have good friends with a home on the water near our home. Every time we left we'd look at the (at the time) distressed Craftsman Beach House and say "if that ever went on the market let's try to buy it". Well, it did and we did! The location is ideal with the stunning view, and the bright open acre to play on and grow fruit trees. The property gets lots of light. Our favorite marine parks in the San Juans (Sucia and Matia) are just a 10 minute power boat ride away. With a stunning 'exploring' beach a short stroll down the lawn, the town just walking distance (ok, a 40 minute walk, but still) or a short bike ride-(10 minutes) away, and great friends nearby, this home had everything we dreamed.
What makes this House unique
Really, we never have to leave if we don't want to! The big lawn is great for frisbee and all manner of family yard games; the firepit for songs, stories and s'mores; the beach to explore for hours and build forts; the warm, casual and traditional house for gatherings large and small and an old porch to sit on with a glass of wine while Mt. Baker lights up the sky. We have to pinch ourselves sometimes.

Beautiful craftsman house, huge yard with fire pit, close to the beach and beautiful view! Thanks!!!
We stayed here with my parents and siblings and kids and we had such a great time! Tons of room and we loved how many bedrooms there were. And the kitchen was so great, we cooked all our meals there and they had every type of pot and pan we needed. Loved the location, the beach, the view, everything! Will definitely be back again. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the great review! We are glad you enjoyed the new kitchen too!
Space for multigenerational vacation
Enjoyed our time, House had plenty of room for everyone and location was great.
Cozy place for the entire family.
We had a wonderful stay at the Craftsman Beach House. The wonderful location of this house made beach and town access very easy. We were 3 generations of a family staying here--grandparents, parents, and four kids, and we were all very comfortable. The house is well stocked with the essentials, and comfortably outfitted so that we could cozy up with blankets on the cool evenings. There are plenty of pillows and towels for everyone. The kids and dog loved the huge yard, and the fire pit was a wonderful bonus on three of the five nights that we stayed. One of my favorite things while at this house was getting up before anyone else and enjoying a cup of coffee while watching the ocean on the beautiful covered porch. Thank you!
Such a tranquil home with all the extras!!
We loved the soft blankets, peaceful neighborhood, and big beautiful windows for enjoying the views.
This house had a comfy bed for everyone and no one had to sleep on a sofa bed! My friends and I had a wonderful time cooking in the kitchen and staying up late looking at all the stars!!
We will definitely come back because this house felt like a home while we were visiting. Kati was beyond helpful to make sure we had everything we needed from ferry reservations to what was happening on the island during that week! Thank you so much!!!
Cozy, quaint, and perfect for our family
We had a wonderful winter escape to this Orcas Island Cottage style house. Beautiful views of the sound and mountains, exploring the nearby beaches, enjoying the shops and restaurants in town. The house was perfect for our family of 5 with all kids getting their own room and having another friend joining and having their own room too. Certainly enough room for everyone. We will be back!
Beautiful location, very well appointed house
A wonderful view of the Salish Sea. Very convenient to east sound. The house is cozy and comfortable for a group, and the kitchen is better outfitted than any vacation rental I can remember.
Moran State Park, Cascade Lake, Mt. Constitution. Whale watching, excellent skateboard park, jr. sailing lessons, great farmers market.
