Welcome to charming, historic Riverside: Designed by Olmsted, likely THE WORLD'S FIRST planned 'burb (1869) - with more green space per capita than any community - it remains a gaslit, 19th Century masterpiece of architecture and landscape design!
Near MDW-ORD airports, this Victorian-era mansion sleeps 21 guests, great for reunions, retreats, wedding housing, getaways OR as a safe, fun launchpad for vacationers exploring Chicagoland.
A dozen people can sit around our kitchen island, and another dozen in our lovingly restored oak-paneled dining room. Guests can lounge on our stately front porch or big back deck as well.
Our home was designed in the 1890's by Dwight Perkins, famed architect of the Prairie School and Arts & Crafts style. His friends William LeBaron Jenney and Frank Lloyd Wright also have homes on our block. This house has an enormous kitchen, fully stocked with dishes, silverware, stemware, pots and pans, you name it. Apart from sections of the property we cannot currently make available -- the attic and the basement -- there are six bedrooms, 2.5 baths, fireplaces, a huge front porch, giant rear deck, outdoor grill, an eight-person hot tub, large yard, outdoor fire areas and a basketball court. Look at the photos! I think you'll like them. :)
We raised ten kids here. Now that so many of our fledglings have left the nest, we thought it would be fun to share our home and historic village with architecture lovers, travelers and friends.
Local ordinance bars guest use of basement/attic, but our 5,000+ square foot home offers plenty of space on our first and second floors, wide front porch, big yard and fire pit, hoops court, giant rear deck and spa area.
We love to visit our friends and offspring in other states. When guests arrive here, they find that we and much of our personal stuff have vacated the premises (or at least the first two floors). We've tried to make drawer and closet space available in the bedrooms, cleared out two rows of coat hooks by the side door, emptied an entire refrigerator/freezer, etc -- but some of our personal items will remain about. If not in person, we're always close by phone and are happy to answer any questions, but it's our aim to respect your privacy :)
August 5-11, 2018 rates are for full week only.
