Luxury Rental In Perigord With A 27m Long Heated Pool Overlooking The Valley

Bedrooms 10
Space 5,381 sq. ft.
Property type chateau / country house
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

10 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms and grandiose reception rooms

A stroll through the steep winding streets of Beynac leads to the most stunning house in the village: la Maison des Sarrasins. Clinging to the cliff side, it overlooks the Dordogne valley and the meandering river below. Its 18th century terraced gardens overlooking the Dordogne castles are amongst the most beautiful sites in the Perigord. In recent years, the property has undergone a meticulous restoration led by the owner of the Castelnaud and Marqueyssac gardens nearby.

The main house comprises seven bedrooms, six bathrooms and exquisite reception rooms. The guest house provides an additional two bedrooms, a bathroom and a games room. Both houses are centred around a charming pisé stone terrace, offering an idyllic setting. Two additional beds are also available in the Dovecote, near the pool area, ideal for a nanny who might accompany you.

It is a unique opportunity to rent an exceptional mansion for a family or a friend get-together, or simply for a luxurious stay in one of France's most beautiful region.

The two adjoining gardens overlook the Dordogne river and offer a unique panoramic view of the valley of the five castles. Toward the far end, a 27 metre long heated swimming pool has been fitted into an 18th century basin.

We do accept animals for an extra of 100€/animal.

About Aurore

I grew up in the village, and learnt to fall in love with it. I have kept coming here for more then 50 years, and have a passion for restoring the great heritage of this region.

Aurore purchased this chateau / country house in 2006

Why Aurore chose Beynac-et-Cazenac

I restored with passion this property in order to to give back its splendour to the most stunning house of the village.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Outstanding Property For An Unforgettable Holiday

  • 5 of 5

As a group of family and friends, 16 of us stayed here in June. We all said that the pictures hardly do the property justice. It is a stunning location right along the Dordogne and underneath the Château de Beynac. The main house has fabulous amenities, huge refrigerators, two ovens, two dish washers, lots and lots of dishes and pans, everything that a large group would need. There are tables and sitting areas that can accommodate the entire group. All of the bedrooms have unique layouts and most in the main house are ensuite. The beds and linens were of excellent quality. There are other buildings on site that have more bedrooms, so even with large groups there is ample space for everyone. The property stretches right across the town of Beynac-et-Cazenac, with beautiful gardens and culminating at the end with a spectacular pool, that we used everyday. We could wave at the people travelling down the river and at the people looking down from the Château.

Our group loved visiting this area, everyone had lots to do and lots to see. The property is right in town so it was convenient for restaurants and bars. There were two bakeries in town and a small grocery. The large grocery store was in St. Cyprien, about a 10 minute drive away. You are provided with a small car (that has standard transmission) for your stay to transport your luggage and groceries. The streets to the property are VERY narrow and steep so most cars cannot be driven into the town. You will do lots of walking up and down hills in this town.

This was one of our most memorable holidays because the property was so unique and the area is so interesting. If I had the opportunity I would stay here again.

What a magnificent location

  • 5 of 5

We had a magnificent week at Sarrasins in July 2017, visiting as a group of five families from Australia. The property itself is stunning - in excellent condition, well-equipped, and with a mix of bedrooms flexible for a larger group. Its location hanging off the side of Beynac Castle is spectacular, with views across the Dordogne Valley, especially from the pool. Beynac is a lovely village, with some nice restaurants, centrally located near other picturesque castles, villages and towns. Activities we would recommend include rafting on the Dordogne River, visiting the nearby Marqueyssac gardens, taking the trip to the awesome cave system at the Gouffre de Padirac where you can travel by boat on underground rivers and visiting some of the prehistoric sights in the district. The property managers were helpful and responsive. Aurore was on site as needed to help to welcome us and assist with any small queries. Our one major disappointment - the Tour De France went straight through Beynac... 3 days after we left. Highly recommended

A magnificent property and the outlook is to die for

  • 5 of 5

This is a large property and there were still bedrooms to spare after the 12 of us were accommodated. The building has plenty of character and the view of the Dordogne river and valley - including several of the neighbouring chateaux - is simply stunning. The best part of the day here is late afternoon when we gathered on the lawn to eat foie gras, drink some of the local red and gaze out over the valley. Like most properties in this area, there is a steep climb to get to it from the village which may prove a challenge for the elderly. A small car comes with the property which you can use to transport people, luggage, shopping, etc from a lower car park to the door of the property, although it is a bit of a hairy drive in certain sections. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms modern and clean. The lady who manages the property was very helpful, not that we had any issues during our stay. One suggestion I have for the owners is that they provide some information on the history of the property and its renovation.

Once in a lifetime experience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were the first to arrive to the property - out of a group of 6 families - 12 adults and 12 kids. We were completely blown away upon our entry into the house. At first I was worried - sometimes images on a website look so much better than the actual thing - this place was the opposite. You can not capture the true beauty and unique nature of this house in photos. You simply have to see it for yourself. The location could not be better - even though you can only get very tiny cars to the house - this made it that much more fun for us. It was as if we were transported back in time. Every detail was thought out - everything that we would ever need for the kids was there - including a game room as well as a closet full of games! The little village of Beynac along with the Beynac castle are so beautiful and living there just for a week was truly a memorable experience. Every family in our group was impressed and we have now set very high standards for our next group rental. The bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen are all very modern - which makes that much cooler. The infinity pool is incredible. The fruit garden was a favorite for all the kids. The property manager Aurore was very helpful and even helped us get babysitters for one night so the adults could go into town for dinner. Also so many nearby attractions that the 7 days we had there were definitely not enough. Highly highly recommend this rental for larger groups of family, friends, etc.

Unbelievable property! The pictures are not an exaggeration. This place is spacious, impeccably furnished and equipped, in an unbelievable location and more than you could ask for inside and outside. The owner and staff were also attentive to every detail.

Amazing house in an amazing location

  • 5 of 5

This house was beyond expectations! The photos do not do it justice. 13 friends stayed here for a week. Ample space for all of us in 7 lovely bedrooms. We had a chef come into cook for us on our last night. Wonderful experience in a lovely house and village. Would highly recommend it.

The Sarrasins House is centrally located in the famous town of Beynac-and-Cazenac. It's a great location to enjoy the many attractions of the 'Perigord Noir' region. Surrounded by middle-age castles, century gardens, traditional cities and villages, you will have plenty of sightseeing activities to discover what makes this French region so typical and attractive.

For sport lovers, or just family activities, you will enjoy paddling down the river Dordogne, climbing the cliffs or exploring caves, fighting emotions when tree-climbing, or simply hiking in the forests and villages... For a special treat, you can even embark in a hot-air-balloon trip above the castles and villages.

From Monday to Sunday in the high season, surrounding villages one after the other host traditional markets where you can find the best products. The Saint-Cyprien market takes place all year long on Sundays and will be a great way to start you week with us.
