About Jeannie Merchant
We purchased 2.5 acres on Bass Harbor in 1974 and built our home and the cottages in the following years adding upgrades and renovations almost yearly. We are native to Mount Desert Island, have 2 grown children and 4 almost grown grandchildren. We enjoy boating the Maine coast, kayaking the local waters and walking the trails of Acadia.

Why Jeannie Merchant chose Bernard
This cottage is all wood, no smelly carpets, is located right at the water's edge on Mill Creek off Bass Harbor and is only 3 miles to down town Southwest Harbor and 20 minutes to down town Bar Harbor. Entrances to Acadia are all around us.
What makes this Cottage unique
Sitting in the swing at the water's edge with morning coffee and again at the end of the day is a peaceful start and ending to every day..

This was my family’s sixth trip to Acadia, and first stay in the Tides Cottage. We had a wonderful experience - the deck is gorgeous and our kids enjoyed afternoon kayaks. Owners were available and responsive. Highly recommend!
Beautiful and Quiet on The Bay
We had a wonderful stay. It was quiet and peaceful, a great place to recharge. The cabin was well equipped, it has a nice kitchen with everything you need for meal preparation, and a gas grill outside. The livingroom was a nice place to sit and visit at the end of the day. We enjoyed stargazing on the deck at night and watching the tide in the A.M. The beds were comfortable too. Even though there are other houses next door, it was quiet. My boys enjoyed the kayaks all week. It was a great place to stay and enjoy all that MDI has to offer.
We had a great stay - lots of fun family time!
We loved staying in this house overlooking the water! It was a great place to come after a long day of hiking and perfect place to unwind and relax! We woke up every morning and had breakfast and coffee on the deck looking out at the beautiful view. The house was well stocked with games (great for our one rainy day) and we even took advantage of the kayaks! Although it was on the quiet side of Acadia, we actually really loved that! We found some great local places to eat and thoroughly enjoyed our hike up Beech Mountain a few minutes away...spectacular views! Great first trip to Acadia National park and a perfect home-away-from home!
Acadia for a few days
This place was great...right on the water and close to the park.
We loved staying here with our small dog. The place is in a nice quiet area but very close to nearby restaurants. We really enjoyed the “quiet side” but within 30 minutes to everything on the island. Was able to take the kayaks out during high tide, the full washer/dryer was a life saver and really had everything you need.
We have it all. . .Biking, beaching, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, whale watching, fishing, fine dining, shopping, museums, movies, live music, bird carving, art, festivals, etc., etc., etc. And fresh lobster. Nearest Mall is 30 minutes in Ellsworth!
