Long awaited family holiday to the cape

  • 1 of 5

From pulling into the drive you got the impression that the house was very "tired" and not maintained. It was extremely dated and the fridge freezer was rusty in places. The property did have all the equipment and facilitiesas quoted but they were all very dated. The crockery was all old and missmatched although there was plenty of it. The kitchen on entering smelled very strongly of bleach, which started alarm bells ringing and we felt that on inspection of the kitchen we had to perform our own clean. On the positive side the beds were comfortable the linens were clean but old and some of the blankets were torn. The place generally was not clean at all and very shabby and the basement was a disgarce. All this I put down to a lack of supervision of the Agency.

We paid a damage deposit, which was refundable. However because we had moved a coffee table to behind the couch and forgot to put it back we were deducted $65 because the cleaner stated that she had to spend an extra two hours "putting things right". When I brought this up with Gary, the owner, he immediatly refund the amount. I must add at this point that all the contact I had with Gary was very positive and very prompt. My impression was that all these faults were not of the owners making but more the lack of supervision from the agency and the cleaning service used should be looked at and supervised. Contact with the agency when booking and prior to arrival was very hit and miss and sometimes non existant. We had a beach pass but were not told which beaches it covered. All in all it did spoil the end of our long awaited and much anticipated holiday. We have stayed at other Homeaway properties in the USA and other countries and they have all been spot on. We booked with homeaway again with a certain amount of confidence, missplaced, because this agency is not up to the standard of others.

Owner's Response: The house is very well-maintained and homey. We have had no complaints and actually had good correspondence with the tenants while they were there. However, when our maid said they left the house a mess and that they had moved furniture outside to the porch, we held back $65 since the maid said she had to get help to move the furniture back into the house. After talking with the tenant through emails (they were very nice btb), we decided to refund the withheld deposit money. Then they wrote the above review... (not very nice). That said, the refrigerator was old, but worked very well... even so, we immediately replaced it after reading the above review. Yes the plates and glasses are mismatched... we thought it was charming. The house is very clean, but it is 60 years old. You can't please everyone.

Loved this very roomy house and walking to the beach and town!

We had a wonderful week at the Cape! The house was more than perfect. We loved the large den to play games around the poker table and watch movies on the comfy couches. The dining room table, kitchen, deck table, and grill all got lots of use and were big enough to accommodate all 5 of us comfortably. The beds were comfy and the a/c worked well. The wifi was spotty ... Somehow having the TV on helped bring in the signal.

We loved walking to Sea Street Beach and fell in love with the beach caddy! It helped to carry the chairs, cooler, etc, etc down to the beach. We enjoyed Kalmus Beach and Craigville Beach as well. The weather was perfect in Hyannis (but our Red Sox game got rained out the day we went to Boston.) : {

Thank you again for the use of your home. It was the perfect place for a week at the Cape!

Wonderful Stay, Wonderful Location!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay in Hyannis. The home was very accommodating. We had guests between the ages of 4 and 92. We couldn't have asked for anything more with the home.

Our young daughter was so excited to look through the toys, try on the roller skates and read the books. It was very spacious and nice to have the separate tv room from the living room. The street is pretty quiet and my daughter enjoyed riding her big wheel up to the corner.

The location is awesome! So close to the beaches (we chose to drive because we had so much stuff and we ventured out to about 5 different beaches). Main street is so close and the harbor to catch the ferry. It was very nice to be so close the ferry. We enjoyed a day on Nantucket!

The owners left a tip guide on the refrigerator that answered all our questions as well as a description of the area beaches with extra maps. When we arrived, the home was very clean and all we had to do was make-up our beds. The home came with so many extras available to us, it felt like we were at our home.

I was book this home again!! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Owner's Response: Wow! Thanks for writing such a wonderful review. We love the house and stay there for a couple of weeks every year... usually doing work and upkeep, but still we treat it like it's our permanent home. One of these days we'll get up to Nantucket too. I am glad you had a great time.

We were 4 people staying at this cottage (2 couples) and we honestly could not have asked for a more perfect place. It was a lovely cottage, with LOTS of space for 2 couples, and everything we could possibly need there. It was also in the perfect location, within easy walking distance to the beach and Main Street. The owners were wonderful to deal with, and spent lots of time answering my hundreds of e-mails before we arrived. The cottage was on a beautiful street, and was itself, pure Cape Cod...everything you're looking for in a cottage near the beach. We truly can't wait to return next year, and I doubt we'll ever have to look for a cottage again, as this one was absolutely perfect!!!

Tons of restaurants and shopping on Main Street, 7 streets away... another couple of blocks to the Melody Tent. Two miles from the only mall on Cape Cod. Movie theaters, miniature golf, golf courses and much more. The ferry to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket is also nearby. A very relaxing private place to vacation, write your novel, play music and get away from the city... but close enough to all the fun, nightlife, and ocean you want from Cape Cod.

Other Activities: Miniature Golf
