Port Austin / Lake Huron cottage

We spent Memorial Day weekend at this awesome cabin. Just walking in the front door, everything about this place is so inviting. It's clean, spacious and has everything that you need including a FANTASTIC sunset. The owner Cheri has done a nice job.

Gorgeous Views in a Rustic Setting

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was just what I needed... homey enough to feel like home, and rustic enough to give me a feel for the remote beauty surrounding it. Lake Huron was WILD this week... got to swim one day and it was perfect!

The place was awesome

We came to Port Austin, so I could begin the grieving process of losing my sister. It was the perfect place. The water was so healing. Cheri was a gracious hostess and we so enjoyed our stay. Looking forward to when we can come back.

Family Vacation 2014

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was rustic as previous reviews have mentioned but it was perfect for our family. The beach was awesome and they were very accommodating to our needs. The only draw back to our vacation was that we brought our dogs. They were a handful and we will probably not bring them again. Thanks for a great week. ( FYI they never complained about our dogs)

Great getaway - we enjoyed Port Austin.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is well equipped and maintained. It's a quaint log cabin but it was nice and clean. It was still too early in the year for swimming but we enjoyed long beach walks. There is a fire pit on the beach and it was fun roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire. The sunsets over the lake are amazing. The owners are helpful and have good recommendations for dining and other entertainment. They provide a book with all the area attractions. We plan on renting again.

Cottage near Port Austin

  • 2 of 5

The cottage was pretty much what I expected from the pictures online. There was just about everything you needed other than food. The one thing which was not as I expected was the beds. They were horrible! They smelled very bad, the mattresses were very uncomfortable, and they were literally wet. I did not get one good night's sleep the whole week. Another thing, the owners only provide 2 garbage bags for the week.

Owner's Response: Odd we have never had a complaint about our beds before which are relatively new. I wonder if she was smelling her 2 large wet dogs which she allowed on all the furniture. They would also leave the dogs unsupervised and with free roam of the cottage for hours when they took side trips.

Of course sandy beaches and water activities are the highlights of the area but there is also canoeing, golf, adventure golf, horseback riding, shopping, hiking and a good selection of restaurants nearby. Port Austin also has an open air farmer / flea market on Saturday's. For a small town it has grown substantially and is a popular activity.

Port Crescent day park which is only a few miles away has some of the nicest beaches in Michigan. The park also features clearly marked hiking trails which are worth seeing. For bike riders, M-25 between Port Austin and Caseville features 8' wide bike lanes in both directions.
