A charming apartment near Spa Complex and great skiing at Portes du Solei

Tir Na Nog chalet is... as its Irish name says...a supernatural realm of everlasting youth, beauty, health, abundance and joy'- You will in fact be rejuvenated and will love the fact that you are in the middle of an exciting area with endless possibilities for sports and culture and yet find yourself in a peaceful haven with breathtaking views, where you awake to the singing of birds.

In winter this apartment has an added advantage of being close to the relaxing and therapeutic spa complex Les Bains du Val d'Illiez, with its sauna, hamam, jacuzzi, massage, thermal pools and river as well as being within minutes of one of the vastest and most beautiful ski area in Europe .

The apartment has two charming bedrooms that will sleep four people comfortably. There is a queen bed in the main bedroom and a trundle bed in the other. The living room is an open plan with a fully equipped kitchen There is no television ...but we have a large library of DVDs, Free WiFi internet, a chess table, numerous board games, cards, a stereo Ipod station and a piano that will provide your family and friends plenty of enjoyable together time !

The open living area opens onto a little balcony where you can enjoy a glass of wine with cheese or even a meal , while admiring your view of the magnificent Dents du Midi mountain chain in front of you, The Dent Blanche to the right and the valley to the left

The chalet is also very conveniently located !! The village is a short two to five minute walk and has virtually anything you might need as there is a tourism office, a grocery store/post office, a bank, a doctor, a garage, a gas station, a train and bus station,a taxi company, a florist, a real estate office, a newsstand, a notary, a bakery, a seamstress, a church, two restaurants and a pub!

The area has something for everybody and just four miles by car or train is one of Europe's best and vastest ski areas that boasts more than 600 kilometers of ski runs and more than 200 ski lifts . Eleven resorts are conveniently interconnected and accessible with the same lift ticket, to provide endless skiing possibilities. In Val d'Illiez as well as the next village the after ski is provided by a number of bars, restaurants and discos.

If you prefer something a little more relaxing, the Bains de Val d'Illiez, a thermal spa is located just a few minutes walk from the chalet . The Bains have two thermal pools, a jacuzzi, steam bath, a sauna, a hamam and massage facilities to soothe every ache after a day of skiing or hiking . One free pass to the Bains or a gift coupon to our local gourmet restaurant or a raclette night with your hosts is complimentary for a one weeks stay or longer.

The summer and autumn months are perfect for taking advantage of picnics and swimming in the Bains, the Champery pool or the nearby lake. Hikes in the mountains, horseback riding outings, skydiving off the mountain tops, exploring the bisses in the area, bicycling along the beautiful Rhone river, exploring the numerous sites such as the salt mines, the numerous castles and museums - these are just some of the wonderful activities within minutes of Val d'Illiez.

For evening entertainment you can take in a theatrical performance or a movie in nearby Monthey, Massongex and even St Triphon. From May 19 this year we are again very fortunate to be able to enjoy the latest Karl's kühne Gassenschau's production in St Triphon !!!- The fantastic Fabrikk like so many of their past productions guarantees to be be humorous and very entertaining theatre, accompanied by breathtaking highflying antics and awesome pyrotechnics. Our area really has something for everyone!!!

About Olga McGrath

I am a graduate of Huron College at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. After living in Toronto Canada most of my life I took a trip to Switzerland where I met my husband. I travelled extensively and lived in several countries while my husband worked for the United Nations. This chalet was purchased just after we were married so that we could have a base during our many moves and eventually a place where we could enjoy skiing with our children.

For the sports minded there is a large variety on offer-hiking, horseback riding, biking, swimming, handgliding, skiing, scuba diving just to name a few. For anyone interested in something more cultural, there is a cinema and two theaters in Monthey, museums and castles to visit within a few minutes by car or by train.

Our chalet is very special in that it has spectacular uninterrupted views in every direction. It is also conveniently located in a peaceful spot while being close to all the amenities provided in the village . You will find that the apartment has everything that you may want and need to make your holiday enjoyable ...and if not ...we will do our best to provide it!

Stunning!

We highly recommend this apartment! Absolutely stunning view from the apartment, waking up to that view every morning was incredible. The apartment itself is nicely equipped with everything we needed for cooking. The location is great, right next to the rail station and just a few blocks from the center of town. I wish we would have had more time to get a "tour" of the decorations as they were an amazing collection. The area is fantastic and we made several hikes, both local and in neighbouring towns. When it rained, we went to the Bains and at night we made use of the large DVD collection and board games. The owners are VERY accommodating and welcoming. Kevin went out of his way on several occasions to make sure that we had all of the information we needed. Truly great hospitality and a fantastic location. (Oh, and the neighbor cows are friendly and curious as well. We spent quite a few hours socializing with them!) We will definitely be back!

Wonderful Switzerland, wonderful chalet!

We thoroughly recommend this wonderful chalet to anyone visiting the area. The apartment was clean, homely and well kitted out, including a cheese fondue for our first evening, delicious! The view is picture perfect and the area is outstanding. The booking process was handled efficiently and Olga could not have been more helpful and friendly. We visited in summer and so enjoyed numerous walks in the mountains, with several chair lifts and cable car rides along the way. There are also two lovely pools and a spa in the nearby towns. We did not feel the need to go further afield as Val d'Illiez and Champery had all we needed, however there is a folder of recommendations in the chalet. We look forward to our next visit for more mountain air and cow bells!

Amazing little spot

This stay at this small and cute chalet was far up from our low expectations. First of all, the view is breathtaking. The house itself is a gem with lovely character and trophies from all over the world. Just exploring them is a joy of itself.

Unfortunately, we haven't met Olga but Kevin gave us all the directions and information we may have needed.

The Thermal baths and Champoussin are totally must visit. Montreux is just 20 minutes away, which gives a variety of shops, restaurants along the promenade.

We will be coming back there just to see how it looks in summer and winter.

Comfortable Swiss chalet in a stunning region

My husband and child (4yo) greatly enjoyed a stay at this beautiful, clean and fully-equipped and well maintained chalet. The pictures shown are an honest representation of the place. The owners are most friendly, helpful and are native English speakers. I definitely would recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants to visit this stunning Swiss region.

Don't forget to stand on the balcony for a moment, even when it's winter. The fresh mountain air and sounds of the waterfall are truly revitalizing.

Tip: do your groceries at the large supermarkets at Morgins, in the valley. There'll be more choice and is more economical.

JUST PERFECT

Coming back from a short holidays at this cozy and amazing chalet with the kindest owner ever seen, we are now completely refreshed. Thanks to our dear Olga, every thing was perfectly arranged and we were really surprised that we could find any thing we needed in this beautiful chalet. The location was perfect and close to the several supermarkets as well as restaurants and cafe bar. Try the BBQ as well, it has lots of fun at the terrace. The view of the terrace was just like a painting we were enjoying our breakfast every morning at terrace and then we started our day with the helpful suggestions of Olga's husband (sorry but I don't know the name), he shared many useful information about the several walking path and restaurants. We will definitely come back to this place but this time not less than one week.

oh, just one more useful note, if you arrive late and need to do some shopping, there is a supermarket close to gas station called "coop", just at the beginning of the road to this chalet (only 10 minutes). it is closed even on Sundays, from 5 pm till 10 pm.

The chalet is ideally located! The village center with grocery store/post office, doctor, notary, real estate office, seamstress, church, train and bus station, bars and restaurants is a 2-5 minutes walk.The lovely thermal baths (Bains de Val d'Illiez ) with sauna, hamman and massage possibilities are just a 15 minutes walk. The Portes du Soleil vast ski area with over 600 kilometers of runs, 200 plus lifts is just a 4 kilometer drive, bus or train ride away. Movie houses, shopping centers and a large theatre that features international productions are only a ten minute drive, in nearby Monthey. Activities of a very wide range - including sports activities, historical sites, cultural events, interesting tourist destinations are all just a short drive away.
