About Tim and Glen

We are retired history teachers. Our family home is in London and we have spent many years enjoying holidays in France with our three sons. We particularly liked the freedom that Gite holidays offered in the Dordogne region; hot summers, beautiful countryside, varied activities for all ages and many picturesque towns and villages to visit and sample the local cuisine.

Tim and Glen purchased this farmhouse in 2013

Why Tim and Glen chose Dordogne

Immediately fell in love with the place - it's setting, which is peaceful, tranquil and conducive to complete relaxation. Though retired we both wanted a bit of a project.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Spacious, not overlooked yet not isolated with fabulous views. A five minute drive to all the local amenities in Villefranche du Perigord. A perfect location for exploring the surrounding countryside, visiting local bastide towns and villages such as Monpazier, Domme and the famous tourist attraction, Sarlat. For less energetic days relax by the pool, snooze in the hammock, enjoy a glass of wine in the evening on the terrace and watch the deer come to graze on your own private meadow.

Best house in Dordogne we have stayed in !

  • 5 of 5

This really is a fantastic place to stay.

The house has been loving decorated and equipped with everything you need. We were a group of 2 families (4 adults and 4 kids) staying together and the rooms were perfect for us with 2 large doubles and 2 twins which were beautifully decorated and lovely & cool on a hot day. Whilst the house itself was great, the best thing was the outdoor space with a fantastic pool, amazing huge undercover area (perfect for outdoor dining and a bit of shade), hammock (which was popular for an after lunch snooze), and huge field for kids to run in and watch the deer (obviously not at the same time !).

Tim and Glen were perfect hosts, getting in touch before the week to answer any pre holiday questions, and during the week they were completely unobtrusive yet were always available to help with any question.

Away from the house we really enjoyed the night markets at Villefranche (small, very local feel but limited food choice) and Belves (large, great food choice but less relaxing). Tip is to arrive early (by 5.45pm) to get a table.

We purposely wanted a rural quiet location so the house ticked this for us perfectly, but for anyone wanting to spend a lot of time up near the traditional Dordogne tourist areas (river, Domme, Beynac, etc.) they are about 40 mins drive away so worth bearing in mind.

A fantastic week, and we would recommend the house without hesitation, it is perfect ! Thank you so much Tim and Glen.

A wonderful quality holiday home in a fantastic setting.

  • 5 of 5

We have been bowled over by this beautiful holiday home and will definitely return.

Tim and Glen are wonderful hosts who are there if you need them; nothing is too much trouble.

Our two weeks just flew by leaving us with memories of a simply wonderful family holiday.

A super pool and shaded terrace is where we spent lots of happy times.

We couldn't have asked for anything better.

Thank you!

Beautiful house, extremely comfortable and well equipped. A perfect escape.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Ruscoux Haut and we were not disappointed. It is a perfect place for family and friends to relax by the pool or sit and chat under the shade of the amazing terrace. There is plenty to do if you feel energetic, table tennis, badminton, cycling, walking as well as kayaking on the River Dordogne. There are pretty towns and villages to visit with good value restaurants and markets. We loved Monpazier and Belves where there is a night market every week with a fantastic selection of food. Sarlat and Domme are within easy reach and well worth a visit. All in all it was a perfect holiday and we hope to return soon.

Peace and Tranquility Guaranteed!

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully restored coach house with huge amounts of space inside and out. The house is well equipped with large comfortable beds and is spotless clean! The large covered dining terrace was a welcome relief from high temperatures some afternoons. The children enjoyed playing table tennis, swinging in the hammock & playing in the pool with the huge selection of inflatables.

Owners Tim & Glen live on site so available if you need them otherwise they will leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday.

Ruscoux Haut is the perfect location for exploring the Dordogne with picturesque towns such as Domme & the river for canoeing all just a short drive away & there are large supermarkets nearby.

We had a fantastic week and would most definitely return to Ruscoux Haut. Thank you Tim & Glen!

A Gem In The Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

We received a warm welcome from Tim and Glen for our stay at Les Ruscoux, together with a basket of quality staples, including a chilled bottle of wine which was much appreciated after our long drive. We holidayed with our children, their partners and our grandchildren, and Les Ruscoux was perfect for our stay. The house was well equipped and spotlessly clean. We found the beds extremely comfortable and the lounge stayed cool in the day despite the high temperature outside. There was plenty to keep the children entertained, table tennis, badminton, basketball, however they spent most of their time in the pool, the hammock was also a firm favourite for relaxing and reading. We ate all our meals under the shaded outdoor patio area, and watched the deer grazing in the early morning and evening.

There was plenty to do and see in the area, and we particularly enjoyed canoeing on the Dordogne , the night market at Belves and exploring the beautiful town of Monpazier. Will highly recommend Les Ruscoux to family and friends .

A very well presented, picturesque property

  • 5 of 5

Ruscoux Haut is a simply stunning property, perfect for families looking to get away from it all, but still wanting to be able to take advantage of the best the region has to offer.

We've just returned from a week (two families of four with young children) and it gets five stars from all of us. It's perfectly represented by the website description and photos. Bedrooms are spacious, the kitchen is large and the terrace the perfect viewpoint to observe the deer in the meadow. All facilities really are first class.

We all loved the pool. It's not heated, but it doesn't need to be with day time temperatures as they are. The depth is a constant 1.4m across so something to bear in mind for non-swimmer children, but there's a plentiful supply of rings, noodles and the odd inflatable crocodile.

Owners Tim and Glen are the perfect hosts. They live in a separate house on site and are incredibly helpful, and apart from morning pool cleaning duties, they respect your privacy and you really do feel you have the place to yourself.

The local town is Villefranche (10 minute drive) which has two convenience stores (not supermarkets as such), boulangeries and a few restaurants. Supermarkets can be found 20 minutes north in Siorac (Carrefour) or 20 minutes south in Fumel (Lidl) for a wider choice.

The house is equidistant between the Dordogne and Lot rivers, though the Dordogne seems much more suited for canoeing and swimming. I would highly recommend hiring a canoe from Castelnaud and take one of the many start/finish options on offer.

The Thursday market at Monpazier is great as is the Wednesday night market in Belves, where you can choose your dinner from a variety of food stalls whilst eating in the impressive town square.

Whether your looking for a cultural break, adventurous days out or sitting by the pool with a good book, Ruscoux Haut is the perfect base to enjoy all of the above and more.
