Thank you for viewing 'Blueberry Ledge' on the bold ledge frontage of Taunton Bay in Hancock, just 25 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Enjoy privacy and comfort in our quiet cottage. We have put a lot of special care into this cottage. We hope you will come and enjoy the peaceful surroundings as much as we do. Our 2500 sq. ft, three-bedroom cottage sleeps four adults comfortably or up to six people when using the loft bedroom. The main floor includes a large master bedroom with queen bed and full private bath. There is a nice guestroom with a queen bed; another full bathroom;large foyer, full kitchen, dining area, and living room with a granite fireplace. The cottage has cathedral, native cedar ceilings, floors are tile and hardwood (carpet in bedrooms..preference is no shoes on wood or carpeted floors). The loft is complete with 2 twin beds and a cozy, tranquil space perfect for reading or relaxing, overlooking the living room and bay.
The walk-out basement boasts full views of the bay. Along with the view you will enjoy board games, cards, puzzles, books, or peaceful moments awaiting the changing of the tide every 6 hours, which offers a new and exciting view every day. Each room is complete with large windows and sliding glass doors opening onto a large, private deck overlooking the bay.
The home is located on a private lot offering 600 feet of rugged, bold, ledge frontage where the home sits on a point high above the shore 75 feet from water's edge. A heads up for parents with small children: although the ledge frontage is beautiful, in places it is very steep and drops dramatically into the bay. We do not have a beach.
Bill is a small business owner and has always shown an interest in Maine's beautiful waterfront properties. We thought building rental cottages would not only be a good investment but they would allow us to enjoy them as well.
We have built two cottages since 2004 and have met wonderful people from all over. This is a great way to invest but also enjoy along the way.
Wanda Pinkham purchased this cottage in 2004
Bill and I love this property with the bold ledge surrounding the bay. We purchased this parcel of land overlooking Taunton Bay after much thought about creating a design for our cottage which would allow the natural surroundings to remain. The design allowed the ledge to remain unscathed; we built around it. The basement boasts the cool, grey ledge and is a great addition to the room
Wanda & Bill,
Thank you for everything! Blueberry Ledge was a wonderful place for our Honeymoon! The cabin has become like home in our short visit to Maine. We appreciate everything which made our stay that much more enjoyable.
Our favorite thing was the view of the bay each morning. We enjoyed watching the sunrise and the tide coming in. We also liked how the cabin is nestled between the trees; great for watching wildlife.
Besides our time at the cabin, we also made a few road trips (Vermont & Nova Scotia), sightseeing on Mt. Desert Island, antiquing at local shops and out to dinner at the local restaurants.
Thanks again and we look forward to returning for another stay.

What a wonderful property! We were here for a family vacation to Acadia National Park. The house was great! Lots of room to spread out after a day of hiking and exploring the park. Wanda was very responsive if we had questions. My grown boys absolutely loved this house! We will definitely recommend to friends, although we'd rather keep to ourselves! Thanks for a great vacation!
This was our first time to Maine and renting this house was just the beginning of a wonderful trip. We had plenty of room and the bedrooms are far enough apart that you have privacy, if you go with other family members as we did. I could have sat out all day and admired the view. My husband and myself had our coffee out there in the morning. It is breathtaking! Also, it is close to everything. The house was really comfortable and we had everything we needed. A special thanks to Wanda for the Blueberry Muffins. Again, just a beautiful house and surroundings. PS: We hiked the property and it was so much fun!
Watson's from New Jersey
This year our vacation had to include one of the two states my wife had never visited. The choice was Maine or North Dakota. Hmmm…scenic Atlantic coastline or flat prairies sprinkled with intercontinental ballistic missiles? Pretty obvious which one got chosen.
After stopping along the way to visit New York City and Boston on the way from Virginia, we adults were ready for a peaceful vacation. When we arrived we thought that we might have turned into the wrong driveway—this looked like a model home, not a vacation rental built at least 10 years ago. The interior was spotlessly clean, all the furniture and appliances were new. It was almost as big as our home back in Virginia and the floor plan easily accommodated the interpersonal dynamics associated with two teenage girls and one ten year old boy.
The location was pretty close to perfect. The house is located in the middle of wild blueberries with a view of Egypt Bay. We got our first introduction to the tides watching the bay fill up and empty sitting on the deck of the house. From a logistics point of view, the house is close to Ellsworth where there is a Hannaford grocery store where you can buy almost anything edible you can think of; within reason. We only ate out once, the rest of the meals we prepared in the well equipped kitchen. From a vacation perspective, everything we wanted to do and see was within a reasonable drive: Acadia National Park all the way to Roosevelt Campobello International Park and Fundy Bay. We even found lakes with public access where we could fish and swim (the water in the lakes is A LOT warmer than that in the Atlantic). Of course there was geocaching, which included a number of hikes along the coast line with fantastic views of the ocean and peaceful forests. Of course it took us places we didn’t know about until we got there such as Thuya Gardens in Acadia. And then there was everyone’s favorite hike: Head Harbour Lightstation which can only be reached by walking across the bottom of Head Harbour at low tide off the tip of Campobello Island.
We used Home Away to find this and others in NYC and Boston. This one clearly takes the prize for the best value. Based on my limited experience with Home Away and VRBO I think this might be underpriced; but I’m certainly not complaining.
If we were to plan another trip to Maine, this would be the place we would book again. This is a great house in a great area.
Owners are very friendly and communicative, they really want you to have a great time. We arrived to find blueberry muffins, that was a wonderful treat after the long drive.
Although a little further from Acadia, it gave use a great chance to explore the Schoodic Peninsula. Shopping in Ellsworth is convenient too. We mostly cooked and ate at the cottage and the owners have provided equipment for grilling on the deck, as well as cooking lobsters.
In summary, this is a great place for a peaceful retreat. And it offers plenty of choices for day trips. We enjoyed a lot of day hikes in Acadia Park.
The blueberry cottage is a wonderful retreat. There is plenty of room for the entire family. The house is equipped with all the needs you need to have a great stay. The house felt like our home away from home. There is no air conditioner but the trade winds are cool and breezy at night so there are no need for one. The beds are very comfortable to sleep in. The view of the inlet is very nice. You are able to watch the tide come in and go out. First floor has bedrooms on the opposite end of the home, bed room in the lower floor as well as one in the upper deck. Lots of room. The Service they gave was great. The house is very well kept and maintained. They answered all the questions and needs we had. I would recommend this cottage to anyone. This cottage has easy access so my mother of 78 was able to go with us. Whale watching in Maine is great to go see, just remember to take a jacket. Pats pizza is a good place to eat. Enjoy Maine.
Blueberry Ledge cottage is the perfect retreat for a visit to the Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park area!! The cottage is very well appointed and has everything one might need to make your stay enjoyable. And if there is something it doesn't have, Wanda will go to almost any length to get what you need. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck enjoying the view after a full day of hiking in and around Acadia. (which is about a 30 minute EASY drive away) There's a lobster steamer on the deck which was great for steaming fresh lobsters and the cottage has all the utensils necessary for cracking and eating the delicious crustaceans. We found the cottage to be extremely clean, very comfortable and we are certain that you will too! Don't hesitate to book this rental ~ you won't be disappointed!!
Start your days picking wild blueberries, August and September only, for your very own muffins, cereal or pancakes. Just a quick jaunt off from the deck will land you in the blueberry bushes atop the bold ledge. Spend your days exploring Maine's coastal towns or visit Mount Desert Island with its many villages and Acadia National Park. Opportunities are endless, including whale watch trips, boat rentals, fishing, swimming, kayaking, shopping, tennis or make use of the many hiking trails. Ellsworth is only seven minutes away, where you will find a variety of shops and stores. However, country stores are nearby for all your basic needs. Our cottage is the perfect center point to begin your exploring regardless of your destination. We are approximately 30 minutes away from Bangor, Blue Hill, Bucksport, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Milbridge or Cherryfield.
