Why Dianna Baribeau chose Maine

This is a historic property, once quarried for its granite that was shipped right off the shore of this peninsula. The remains of a very large wharf that serviced this production has filled in with natural clay and sand provides a natural area for watching horseshoe crabs, or wading with little ones in the water at high tide. The area is packed with marine life for the curious and possibly the budding marine biologist among the rocks and seaweed at low tide. There are old rocky ledges to climb and beautiful meandering trails to walk, some formerly used for horse back riding when the stable at the beginning of the road was full. These bridal trails are lovely and meander throughout the preserved property.

What makes this house unique

It's the location! It is close to everything and yet in minutes it is a world away. It's natural and unspoiled. If you need to a private Jet Port, it's 10 minutes away. If you want shopping Freeport is 20 minutes away. The market is 5 minutes drive and the water's edge is a short, walk on a delightful path.

It's also the porch! Everyone loves the porch. It's the pulse of the home. Meals are enjoyed there overlooking the water, seating is ample to relax afterwards so you can bake those chocolate chip cookies in between chats or games or be by yourself if you can get up at sunrise.

The house is casual and spacious with a great flow, perfect for families.

While it is very private, access to everything in within minutes. So you can read and do absolutely nothing and be totally happy, or hike, interact with your friends and family in dozens of ways, or drive to the movies just a couple of miles down the house or go to one of Bowdoin's Summer Theater productions in the evenings during the summer.

On a clear night, from the deck off the porch or from the large lawn out front you can see billions of stars.

The forest is full of fabulous birds like Pilliated Woodpeckers, Bald Eagle and Wild Turkeys to name just a few while the shore brings Plovers, Pipers, Eider Ducks, Osprey, Blue Heron, Egrets, Commarants. The river is host to playful seals and lots of great fish. Make your own story and take home wonderful memories.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Coming from the Chicago area this spot was a great change of scenery and peace for our family. With four young children the size of the house was great as was the back yard - the perfect mix of feeling remote and not far from state park, beaches, which were a lot of fun for the kids we visited Popham, Reid and Crescent in Cape Elizabeth. If we return to Maine we should like to stay here again. Thank your for opening up this house to our family.

We stayed at this home last summer on our vacation. The location & the property were gorgeous, however the house definitely needs updating. The furniture in the living room was very uncomfortable. We were also disappointed that the "beach" area was further than we expected. A good 10-15 minute walk through the woods and down a flight of stairs. We definitely could not bring our kayaks down to the water. The "swimming beach" was also completely unswimmable. In high tide the water comes right up to the rocks so you don't know how deep it is. In low tide it is just mud. It was beautiful to sit out on the point and look at the water, but wasn't great for two kids (age 10 & 12) who were dying to swim. We did find a few great beaches about 45 minutes away. The town of Brunswick is also fantastic with a few nice restaurants. Overall, we were disappointed with the condition of the house and the lack of swimming so we left a day early.
