Stunning rural retreat, 2 bedrm, 2 ensuite, within easy reach of the cities
About Iona Hordern
I work from home as an artist and illustrator specialising in botanical illustration (lessons available if you wish) and I often take inspiration from our garden and the many wildflowers around us. The meadow has a wonderful display of wild orchids in the summer. My husband works in Glasgow during the week, and likes to unwind in the garden where he grows a wide variety of fruit and veg.
Why Iona Hordern chose Glasgow
Our home is the perfect combination of location and convenience. We live in glorious countryside, but are close enough to Glasgow to enjoy all the cultural and shopping attractions of a big city. Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and the West Highland Way are nearby so we can enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland whenever we want. Historic Stirling is also nearby and the castle is definitely worth a look. Both Edinburgh and Perth are about an hour away by car.
What makes this Cottage unique
We live in the most beautiful spot with all the benefits of having our own space but within easy reach of the villages of Balfron, Fintry and Killearn. Read and relax surrounded by a profusion of bird song or if your lucky catch a glimpse of the local wildlife. Our watchful heron stands over the pond and its not unusual for the hares and hedgehogs to come right up to the house.

Even better than it looks
Great location, more space than appears, well equiped etc.
We could not fault our stay and would recommend without hesitation.
Off the beaten path in rural Scotland
A quiet rural location, a short drive from Fintry, in the midst of sheep pastures and The Fintry Hills. The Kist itself is clean, nicely appointed, and open and airy.
Beautiful location well situated for exploring the Scottish lowlands and beyond. Iona and Mark are attentive hosts, always there when you need them with a smile and a helping hand. When the sun shines the view from the patio is truly uplifting while The Kist itself is spacious, clean and fitted out with all (and more) you will need to enjoy your holiday.
Lovely property in beautiful location
We had a lovely few days whilst we were there for me to run the Highland Fling. We would definitely return
Home from Home
What can I say that hasn't already been said about The Kist... We had an amazing week away with fun packed days, wonderful views, beautiful sunsets, fresh air and a wonderful sense of home. We really didn't want to leave!
Iona was very welcoming when we arrived showing us round the place. We could not believe how well equipped the lodge was.
Although Iona's home was across from the accommodation, there was a cleverly placed group of trees and bushes that gave a sense of privacy between us.
We plan to come back in the near future as we enjoyed it so much!
Loved By All
We stayed here with our 2 young children and dog. This was a lovely place to relax for the whole family, the kids loved the grounds, we saw lots of wildlife here (heron, hares, frogs and frogspawn, ducks on site and deer down the lane). The property was very well equipped, it really did have everything you could need in it, we welcomed the children’s crockery and cutlery. It was comfortable throughout.
Close to Loch Lomond National Park, The Trossachs and world class scenery, there are almost unlimited countryside activities to enjoy. Then again, Glasgow - Scotland's shopping capital - is also nearby. And with Bannockburn and Stirling within easy reach, there are some of Scotland's most historic sites almost on your doorstep.
