The Kist (a historic term for a linen box or treasure chest) is a stunning contemporary lodge set in private grounds in a beautiful rural location. A large deck area and a panoramic window in the main room allow visitors to enjoy the country experience whatever the weather. You may well find deer grazing in the garden of a morning.

The Kist is set in glorious countryside, but is close enough to Glasgow to enjoy all the cultural and shopping attractions of a big city. Some of Scotland's most spectacular countryside, including Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and the West Highland Way, are nearby. Historic Stirling is within easy reach and the Castle is definitely worth a look. Both Edinburgh and Perth are about an hour away by car.

The stylish glass fronted open plan living area includes a fully fitted kitchen complete with integrated fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.

The large decked area to the front is the perfect way to enjoy sunny evenings and yes, there is a barbecue if eating al fresco is your thing.

There are two double bedrooms, both en-suite, with one set up as a twin room. The master bedroom has a p shaped bath and Mira shower. The twin room has a Coram quad shower and roomy walk in wardrobe, normally set up with twin beds which can be made in to a double with space to setup the foldaway bed as well.

The modern lodge offers all the advantages of a new home, in a lovely setting. Practical, cosy and stylish, you'll love being 'Kist'.

About Iona Hordern

I work from home as an artist and illustrator specialising in botanical illustration (lessons available if you wish) and I often take inspiration from our garden and the many wildflowers around us. The meadow has a wonderful display of wild orchids in the summer.

My husband works in Glasgow during the week, and likes to unwind in the garden where he grows a wide variety of fruit and veg.

Why Iona Hordern chose Balfron

Our home is the perfect combination of location and convenience. We live in glorious countryside, but are close enough to Glasgow to enjoy all the cultural and shopping attractions of a big city. Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and the West Highland Way are nearby so we can enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland whenever we want. Historic Stirling is also nearby and the castle is definitely worth a look. Both Edinburgh and Perth are about an hour away by car.

What makes this cottage unique

We live in the most beautiful spot with all the benefits of having our own space but within easy reach of the villages of Balfron, Fintry and Killearn. Read and relax surrounded by a profusion of bird song or if your lucky catch a glimpse of the local wildlife. Our watchful heron stands over the pond and its not unusual for the hares and hedgehogs to come right up to the house.

What a wonderful place to stay! The Kist was like home away from home. We enjoyed skiing near Glencoe, the trip down there was spectacular. The surroundings are simply amazing. Returning to The Kist was a joy everytime. Ioana has been a lovely host. We especially loved the food at The Kippen Inn! We hope we will be able to come again!

Fabulous !!!

The cabin is stunning and very modern and well furnished. Everything you want is within and you can virtually turn up with food and drink and your set for a peaceful time.

It had been snowing when we arrived and was picture perfect.

The huge terraced area would be amazing in the summer.

We were greeted by the owner Iona who was lovely and has done everything possible to make our stay memorable.

It isn't within walking distance of any shops / bars etc so just take your own and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Cosy, relaxing and remote

We spent a wonderful two days at the Kist and I wish it could have been longer. The Kist was warm and tastefully decorated with a very comfy bed. It’s in an ideal location for Loch Lomond, and the surrounding villages are great to explore. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend it! Thank you Iona! Xx

The Kist is gorgeous! Good things come in small packages. Its got everything you need. The kitchen is amazing, the bathrooms are lovely and the beds are very comfortable. The scenery is beautiful and the owners are brilliant!

Beautiful modern cottage and perfect hosts.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at The Kist. Cottage is spotless and well equiped and we could not fault it.Great for a get away from it all..complete privacy and lovely walks with our dog but also a short drive to many tourist attractions if wanted. Iona was lovely ..the perfect host and can tell has spent a lot of attention to detail in cottage. Iona also was very helpful returning a few items we left behind promptly by post the next day...nothing is a bother...would defo return . Thankyou x
