About SYLVIA BRADSHAW
We have lovingly restored this historic home for the last 36 years. It is our semi-annual home. Since 1991 we have been spending the summers on our farm in Ireland. Which is another lovingly restored property.
SYLVIA BRADSHAW purchased this House in 1975
Why SYLVIA BRADSHAW chose Gallery Row
The Helen Cope house is the oldest building in Laguna Beach still on its original lot. The house is fully restored and one of the most wonderful historical landmarks of Laguna Beach. A true one-of-a-kind home.

Historic Perfection in Downtown Laguna
Laguna Beach is a magnificent place. This year we decided to spend our family vacation at the Cope House in Downtown Laguna. Only 15 minutes from our house, but a world of differnce in every way. Originally built in 1897, Roy and Silvia have spent a lifetime restoring this house to loving perfection. The house itself is a wonderful place to be, filled with charm, style, history and character. With an original intent to stay for the month of June, we extended our stay another 2 weeks; refusing to leave this idylic vacation spot. The location is as close to downtown as you can be and still be in a single family home. Everything is walking distance, restaurants, shops, nightlife, and of course, the blue Pacific. My goal was to go all 6 weeks without driving, and with the exception of a few business meeting inland, I blissfully left my car parked and walked everywhere.
Our experience was simply life-changing. My overall vibe became mellow... I rarely wore shoes... stress just disappeared. Somehow, I feel we tasted a slice of the "perfect life" during our stay at the Cope House. I discourage all of you from staying there because I want it all to myself.
A Summer Spent in Heaven!
My husband, 4-year-old daughter and I spent the entire summer of 2013 in this amazing house. It's hard to know where to begin with this review so excuse me if I go on and on! To start with, the location is the hands-down best in the city. You are right downtown - no hills to climb (this is very unusual), no driving needed. Especially in the summer when the trolleys are free and go miles from North to South and even to the festivals on Broadway. We were one block to Pacific Coast Highway and across it was the gorgeous Main beach. We often laughed because visitors to the beach parked so much further than where we lived! It was incredibly easy and fun living. The house is catty-corner from the adorable public library which has many kids' activities. We were also next to the best restaurants in town. We ate our way through the town. Honestly, I don't think we ever drove!
The house is one of the most interesting places we've ever seen. Built in 1897 and maintained in the most interesting way. We had family come visit and each time someone found something new to look at. It almost has the feel of being in a vintage wooden boat (albeit a very, very large one). The living room is spacious with very tall ceilings. We had many dinners at the long wooden-benched table. The kitchen was large and updated BUT had an amazing antique Wolf oven & stovetop that cooked better than our new stove. It's a maze of interesting rooms, some stairs and interesting pieces. The owners take great care of their home. It was fully clean when we moved in - I was very impressed as there are many nooks and crannies. The nightlife is plentiful in the area so in every house downtown you hear nightclubs at night. This did not bother us but I recommend earplugs if you are sensitive. The house did not let in more noise than any other, which is great. There is a parking spot with a custom iron gate which makes life so much easier as parking is precious in the area.
The owners were absolutely lovely to deal with and we hope to stay in touch with them forever! We would have booked the home again this summer but will be having a new baby in May and decided to stay home. (Though you better hurry and book or we may change our mind!)
Reilly family reunion
Our family had a reunion this summer in California and we stayed at this beautifully restored home one block from the beach. The owners were so very accommodating and helpful with us finding our way around. The home was cozy and had everything we needed. It had charm and we all felt right at home. It was the best trip we have ever had and plan on returning!! It was also it the cutest town ever.
Great beach vacation
Absolutely fantastic location -- easy walk to everything -- Main Beach, restaurants and shops on both Coast Hwy and Forest Ave, Whole Foods and Ralphs, the high school pool. Very comfortable and spacious family home. Highly convenient for a family with a dog -- great little enclosed yard.
Walk to the Beach, Art Galleries, Pageant of the Masters, Farmer's Market and Sawdust Festival.
