We bought in 2005 along with some friends and we travel down to C.R. 2-3 times a year to stay. Bahia Pez Vela is a special place and there is nothing like it that we have found. We are proud to share our villa with renters and friends.
alan murray purchased this villa in 2005
We had friends that bought a villa in B.P.V. and when we went to check it out we fell in love with the area. We've enjoyed bringing decorations and such from the states for our place and it has been a labor of love.
The serenity, peace and quiet, gourmet restaurant, bar, pool area, private beach; beach massages, just to name a few.
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Colina. We met Jacky and Cesar and got good advice for things to do and took a taxito Auto Mercado first thing in the morning we arrived. We made breakfast at Casa Colina and it is well equipped, otherwise we ate at Picante or somewhere else; also tested the pizza from La Caveja, delicious. We enjoyed the waterfalls of Llanos de Cortez; stopped by Tempisque River to see the oxes to transport the sand out of the river the old fashioned way. New Years eve we sailed onboard Kuna Vela to do some snorkeling and experienced the wonderful sunset. The best activity was the Adventure Combo to Ricon de la Vieja, horseback riding, tubing, zip;ining and finally hot water spring with mud.
Playa Ocotal and surroundings is perfect for jogging and walking (uphill and downhill) with fantastic views and a few exotic animals. Never before have experienced 90 degrees every day during our holidays. When we got back to Finland it was -13 F. We are glad to recommend Casa de Colina to our friends. Thank you!
We recently stayed at Casa Colina with our 2 teenaged daughters and another family who has 2 daughters the same age. The villa was perfect for us! There was ample room for everyone. Closet & drawer space was plentiful. The linen closet was well stocked with sheets & towels. The bathrooms were spacious and the kitchen had everything we needed. Glad to have the washer & dryer for daily laundering of dirty clothes/bathing suits from all our adventures! It was also very helpful to have the safe for our valuable items. The villa wasn't just functional, it was also beautifully decorated. Everything looked beachy & fresh. It was a pleasure to be there! In terms of Bahia Pez Vela, we felt very safe - there's a security gate. Walk to the beach was only a minute or so. There is a pretty steep hill that you can't get around when going to the beach, so if you have trouble walking that might not be ideal, but was fine for us. It is a little tucked away, but we loved that. The cove is gorgeous & it was nice to have a virtually private beach. We ate at the on-premise restaurant, Picante, one evening & everyone enjoyed it. We wished they had a breakfast offering. Cesar & Jacky in the office were helpful with suggestions & securing taxis. Prior to our trip, Neil, the homeowner, was very responsive & helpful. In terms of Guanacaste, GO! The country is beautiful, the people are friendly, the food is excellent and the activities are endless! We will go again & we would absolutely stay at Casa Colina again!
We spent 8 days at Casa Colina and it was amazing. It has a great ocean front view and we got to see a lot of wildlife. Every morning we ate breakfast outside and we were joined by these beautiful blue birds. We even got to see some monkeys and could hear them every morning too. The villa had everything we needed and much more. We cooked most meals here and the kitchen had everything we needed to make delicious meals. It was nice being able to do laundry as well. The front office staff was very helpful and had a lot of good suggestions for things to do. They helped us book an all day Catamaran tour and we were the only ones on it for half of the day and felt like royalty on it! The pool at the villa was beautiful and very refreshing. We rented a car and we recommend renting one down there. The roads can be quite an adventure, but having a car was worth it. Would definetly recommend this villa to everyone! The owner Neil was great and very helpful too! Had a great time here in Costa Rica and can't wait to come back! Thanks for letting us use your villa!
It just feels like home once you enter this paradise of villas in Pez Vella.
This was our second stay at Casa Colina and it was truly relaxing, the weather was beautiful every day.
Thanks to Neil for always being helpful and accommodating with our travel plans.
We enjoy preparing our own meals so loved the spice selection and kitchen accessories to make food prep easy.
We rented a vehicle and made day trip outings - so many things to do within a hour or so of this stay.
We had a great week at Bahia Pez Vela. Neil was easy to work with from our initial inquiry right through our stay in early January 2016. The trip from Playa Del Coco the first time is a little unnerving but that turned out to be part of the charm and we got so we looked forward to driving into town each day. You will want to rent a small SUV at a minimum, it's a very narrow and rough (in places) road to the resort. The condo itself was great, just as described. Beautiful view, well appointed, comfortable beds. The resort has a great restaurant, nice pool and very secluded beach. Listen for howler monkeys in the late afternoon and watch out for the very friendly racoons. We also found several great dining spots in town so we ended up alternating between cooking our own meals and dining out. Nice spot to relax. This was our best VRBO experience yet, highly recommended.
We absolutely loved the safe, secure complex as well as the privacy of the secluded " Playa Azul " beach, at times we were the only 2 on the beach going for a nice walk and swimming almost everyday in the Pacific Ocean. We just love salt water. Villa Casa Colina was outstanding, surely tastefully decorated with all the amenities you would need to feel at home. Beautifully clean landscaped property, gorgeous flowers everywhere. Cesar and Jackie at the office are...Words cannot describe how... WONDERFUL, PLEASANT, ENTHUSIASTIC, KNOWLEDGEABLE, CARING, INFORMATIVE they both are. ALL STAFF were so friendly and accommodating, just to name some Orlando, Misael (Michael/Michel), Bernice (Bernard the gardener), Raymond. Juan & Cesar @ Picante Restaurant were always pleasant and caring. Our Communication with Neil/Owner was great from the 1st time we spoke to him, he was so accommodating, just excellent to deal with throughout our 3 months stay @ Villa Casa Colina. The weather of course was incredible, no humidity while we were there in January, February and March, just FANTASTIC!!! We met very interesting people and became friends shortly after our arrival. We enjoyed memorable excursions with our families while they were visiting us in Paradise. We certainly enjoyed the Howling Monkeys (Monos), the Urracca Blue Birds, the friendly raccoons (Mapache), they were all so amusing, not to forget the Iguanas. We have highly recommended to friends of our and family members Villa Casa Colina.
We were unsure where to stay in Costa Rica and just happened to come across Bahia Pez Vela at the last minute, and are we ever glad we did. What an amazing place. The villa has everything you will need on holiday. The kitchen is well appointed, the beds are very comfortable, and the eating area outside was great. It was very convenient having a washer and dryer in the villa. We spent many evening sitting outside as the weather was incredible. It gets dark early here and we were usually in bed by 9 pm but up at 5 and it already seemed that we had missed half of the day. Time is like that here. You can spend your day at the pool or at the beach, and Picante restaurant is wonderful. We ate here on several occasions. I have read reviews where they say that you don't need a vehicle, but I don't agree with that. Yes, there are taxis and buses, but it is so much more convenient to have an SUV (and you need an SUV on some of these roads). We went into Coco daily to pick up food or to have a meal. We also went on several day trips to Tamarindo, Arenal and Cortez Waterfalls. It is nicely located so all of these options are available.
We met several ex-pat Canadians while we were here. One of whom fished from our beach and the restaurant made a fresh Ceviche from the Parrot fish that he caught. The Howler monkeys were in the trees on the beach on several occasions, there were also raccoons and the crabs who lived in the hill going up above the villas were amusing. The water at the beach was very safe and we went snorkeling on several occasions. Several people staying at the resort were divers and went to Catalina Island which is very close.
I definitely recommend Casa Colina and Neil was a very responsive owner. We hope to be back soon.
Canopy tours, volcano tours, river boat trips, casino and great shopping. Personal massages on the beach or in room available.
