What a great experience we had at this property! So clean and comfortable, lots of amenities. This was our first vacation to Mt. Desert Island, and this property was perfectly located for traveling all around the island. Communicating with owner Sara was easy, can't wait to plan for another stay!
Sara's house was the perfect home base for our Acadia adventures! It's conveniently located to both sides of the island in a very private space but very close to it all. It was a short 5-minute walk down to the library overlooking the water where an eagle was spending much of her time high in the tree. That was quite fun to see every day! The house was very clean and well-kept and the supplied with kitchen and bathroom necessities. Bar Harbor is about a 15 minute drive away, the indoor and outdoor space is great, and we were so happy to be able to bring along our 40-pound rescue dog Tango, who loved running around the big backyard while we roasted s'mores over the campfire. Sara was very easy to communicate with beforehand, left us detailed instructions upon our arrival, and was nearby and easy to contact if we needed her (though we didn't meet in person until the last day)! This was our first visit to Maine and we feel lucky to have found such a great place to stay. We will recommend this property to friends and also hope to come back ourselves!
Our family of four spent our first vacation in Maine and stayed at this cozy clean cabin. We looked for a place that could accomodate our two teenage daughters AND our two greyhounds. We brought along the dogs' crates and set them up in the LR space while we ventured away for the day.
The property was clean and even had a few upgrades from what the pictures show. The front deck was painted (I loved sitting on the deck where I soaked in some afternoon sun). We also noticed a new bathroom vanity, dishwasher and gas grill. We ate half of our meals at the house to save money and appreciated a clean, working grill!
We would highly recommend staying here - Somesville is a great central location between Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor and the Acadia National Park entrances. The house is just off of Route 102, but shade and trees gave us the privacy we needed.
We would love to visit Maine again some day and would definitely stay here again.

Everything was as advertised at this property and then some! The house was very comfortable and cozy--we had some cold nights and were able to use the thermostat-controlled propane heating stove in the living room-- it worked very well! Every convenience is there for your use and the property is lovely and very private. I loved the central location on MDI--nothing was more than a 20 minute drive. The town is quiet and picturesque and the neighborhood roads are very nice for walking or riding a bike. The owners are very accommodating and helpful. We brought our two dogs and they loved the wide expanse of lawn--great for running off excess energy. Although we have no young children, this house would be perfect for a family of four.
To stay at this cabin was just a glimse of heaven. Everything was just perfect! You felt all the comforts of home with the warmness of the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the well stocked kitchen as well as all the other living area's were just so cozy.
Everything is so closeby as far as the swimming, hiking, canoe and kyaking, dining, hiking, sailing and sightseeing as well as the blueberry picking in August. We made a dleicous pie one morning which was absolutly delicious!
If you are a bike rider or walker make sure you check out the carriage trails, pick up a map in the Bar Harbor town. The trails do everywhere around the Acadia Park and the views of lakes, ponds, beaver and porcupine are amazing. We took a trip sailing on the Margaret Todd around the french harbor one morning and saw an eagle, dolphins and shorebirds, it was awesome! We even helped to hoist up the sails!
The highlight for me was the shorline of Schoodic Point, an hour drive from the cabin. part of Acadia Nat. Park. The waves crashing agaist the shoreline are just amazing, you just keep taking pictures and video and don't want to leave! It's WELL worth the drive fro sure!
There is so much to see including the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, the views are amazing on the left side where the rocks are, check it out!
I could go on and on, but I highly recommend this cabin to stay in, because you'll never be the same afterwords, it a "GOOD FOR THE SOUL" place to come to!
We stayed here with our two Springer Spanials,it was perfect for us.
It's in a central location and very quiet.Highly recommend for 55+ or folks with young children or pets. None of the hustle of Bar Harbor but just 8 miles away.
We plan to return sometime soon.
Walk to Somes Landing, at the head of Somes Sound, or to the pond down the road which is a favorite local swimming spot. The quaint village of Somesville is just a few minute's walk, with a charming library, antique shop, historical museum, the Acadia Repertory Theatre, and a bus stop on the island's free Explorer bus system. Somesville itself is centrally located, which means you save a lot of driving time as you try to enjoy all of Acadia National Park's beaches, mountains, coastline, and the restaurants, shops, summer theatres, whale watching, sailing, etc. etc., of Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor. Our guest house is in a very private location, surrounded by woods and field, nearest neighbors are hidden from view by the woods. Big backyard away from road, great for young children. We are now offering 2 complimentary tickets to the Acadia Repertory Theatre, which is a 10 minute walk away and a Somesville tradition. They do a Weds. morning children's play too!
