Definitely did not love it !
Lavish, it most definitely was not. The property was quite unlike what we saw online when we booked it. The online photos were probably old as I have seen them over the course of a number of years I have dealt with VRBO. I consider the change misrepresentation, as the new version, ugly and tasteless, was quite different from what has been shown online. The apartment had clearly been poorly maintained, the walls had chipped paint, the light switches were flimsy and cheap and barely worked. The kitchen was represented as having a conventional oven, but the "oven" was more like a microwave in that it could be set for a particular temperature, but cut off once it had reached that temp. A combination microwave/oven, it could not be used for something as simple as roasting a chicken, for ex. The supply of cooking ware was totally inadequate for actual cooking, without even a usable cutting board. The refrigerator froze whatever was put into it. The master bath had a large clump of black hair adhered to the wall of the tub, attesting to the general lack of care and cleanliness of the apartment. An inadequate air conditioning unit was held together with tape. There was no heat when temperatures turned cold. The building itself was obviously neglected with peeling paint and holes in the plaster of the entryway and halls. It was a depressing place to spend a week and certainly not what we had expected when we rented it. In many years of renting apartments through VRBO (at least a dozen), we have never experienced such a disappointment or major difference in what we saw online and what we got. The only positive thing that can be said is that the owner was kindly willing and able to help us troubleshoot a problem with the clothes washer over the 'phone. Interestingly, the property can no longer be found on the VRBO or "Home Away" sites. This was not a cheap apartment and I would be interested to know how VRBO or "Home Away" deal with misrepresentations of their properties. If the renter cannot have confidence that the apartment is as featured online, other online sites will have an easy time taking over the apartment rental domain.
We are heartbroken about this review.
These guests did call us to inquire how to work the washing machine. We filled them in and got it working for them. They did not call us to explain for fix anything else in the apartment during their stay.
It is true that the oven looks like it only is a microwave, but an instruction manual explains how it functions, as many European appliances do as a microwave, a convection oven, and a traditional oven. Similarly, the washer/dryer is a type common in Europe that is built as one unit to be both efficient and space saving.
The heat quite definitely works, we do use radiators and they require adjusting at the hot water source (the furnace is in the kitchen!) . It is rare for someone ot complain about both the air conditioning and the heat during the same period, but we could have likewise explained how this works.
Our building has suffered in recent years from over humidity, resulting in paint peeling in the stairwell. The coop board is working to address this, but to say the building is “depressing” is not a true depiction. This is not the Intercontinental or the Ritz, but a very typical 19th century building of the 6th arrondissement.
Additionally, the apartment is on the 6th floor (5th floor European) with plenty of light and cross ventilation. The living room furniture (sofa and armchairs only) is new and therefore not reflected in the most recent photos. Every other room is as depicted on the website. We do our best to keep up with paint chips and wear and tear on the apartment but that is inevitable for any short-term rental. We usually only get raves about what a great apartment it is, its light, as well as its incredible location.
It is very disappointing to get a mediocre or even bad review, especially when we did not get an opportunity to address any of these concerns.
Live the Parisian lifestyle in this charming but quirky flat
Loved it. Very good location to access metro. There were shops for your groceries and eating places very close. You get an idea of how Parisians live by staying here - bonus. Nice neighbourhood very close to Luxembourg Gardens. It was ideal for two couples and cost less than two hotel rooms of equivalent style. The owners and their staff were ever so nice to deal with.
A True Parisian experience
The unit is superb for those that who want a true Parisian experience. Close to everything, nothing to want, just complete privacy snd comfort. All in one spot. A gem.
Great location/ not great air conditioning
The apartment has a GREAT location. However , in
Paris and 90degree F the air conditioning unit being only in
the living room was not able to cool the apartment even with 5 fans.
Great apartment in a wonderful neighborhood in Paris
The apartment is situated in a great area of Paris, convenient to transportation and markets.
It has a great layout for 2 to 4 people. It was clean and well equipped and spacious for Paris
I've stayed in many apartments in Paris and this was one of the best
Wonderful Apartment in Paris
Our family of four had a most fantastic stay in this apartment - we walked everywhere. The location of the apartment was perfect for us. The air conditioning is a single unit in the living room - at first we were worried this would not keep the apartment cool enough but we had no problems (we were in Paris in July). The neighborhood was fantastic and we felt right at home after our first day. And Sophie and Phillipe could not have been better hosts -- we accidentally left some clothing behind (including our daughter's favorite sweater) and Sophie and Phillipe mailed them to our home in the US free of charge! We have such fond memories of this special apartment and look forward to our next stay.
