You may have to speak a little louder at the "Old Fisherman's Cottage," as the sound of waterfalls abound at this unique vacation rental. The main cabin was built on 6 acres and only 50 feet from Beech Creek, where only the creek does the rushing.
The cabin's interior features native ash flooring, white pine paneling, and lodge decor. There are 4 bedrooms in the main cabin, two queens, one full, one full/twin bunk. The main cabin has a single bath. A large screened porch with table and chairs, a porch swing and other seating opens onto a sun deck then a short ramp to the pavillion, then to a rock patio and streamside hot tub. This cabin has all the comforts of home in a private wilderness setting.
A second cabin is available if needed. It features a queen bed, full bath with antique claw foot soaking tub, kitchenette and covered porch with rhododendron railing overlooking the waterfall. This charming, romantic getaway is elevated and has the feel of a tree house. It is finished with all native wood and cathedral ceiling. It has its on TV with Direct TV's full movie package. It is located only 50 feet from the main cabin yet retains its on privacy. Open the French doors and let the sound of the waterfall soothe you to sleep. The "Treehouse" does not rent separately to assure the privacy of our main cabin guest.
A streamside 6 person hot tub is set in a tanquil location just a few feet from the waters edge.
An old, abandoned, narrow gauge, rail bed provides a wonderful hiking trail up the creek. Great pool fishing on designated trout waters for miles upstream of the cabin. If you prefer to use a guide Foscoe Fishing Co's Orvis endorsed guides often frequent Beech Creek and can meet you on site, or book a float trip down the Watauga for world class trophy trout or smallmouth fishing.
Boating and lake fishing are six miles away on beautiful Watauga Lake. Skiing on Beech Mountain is seven miles away, along with world class restaurants and many other activities. Boone is 12 miles away with a multitude of amenities and activities.
What a great month, I can't believe it is over. Of all our summers in the "highlands" this has been the best. I couldn't keep the kids out of the creek - swimming and catching critters. Perfect place for the extended family-lots of relaxing for everyone! Thank You! See you again
We had an amazing week at this cabin. We were
delighted when we arrived to find everything as
described and then some. Its a beautiful cabin,
beautiful property, and beautiful area. We had a blast!
Can't wait to do it again.
Our Family loved this spectacular vacation spot. Our five kids & dog loved exploring the creek & trail all week. My husband & I loved that all 7 of us could prepare & cook ALL our meals in the outdoor kitchen under the pavilion, especially after catching many trout. What an awesome area to hang out, especially right beside the hot tub & firepit. We look forward to visiting again. Thanks for sharing your home !!!
Came here on a fly fishing trip. It truly is a magical little place that the owner has here. The pictures do not do it justice. The stream, the outdoor kitchen, the hot tub, and the beautiful cabin all come together to make an amazing stay. There is everything you need while still having the rustic cabin touch. There are fish in the little stream right behind the house if you are sneaky enough. In fact, we liked hanging out at the cabin so much we didn't even do too much fishing haha. We are considering coming back again another year and bringing the whole family.
This was one of the best vacation homes we had stayed in as a family. We went during Christmas and New Years '13/'14. It was more of a summer camp then winter but that was fine with our family. It is very spacious for a family of 5, so up to 8 will still work well. We had an awesome Christmas.
We enjoyed horseback riding at Dutch Creek Trails, trout fishing at Grandfather Mountain Trout Farm, Linville Caverns and shopping in downtown Boone. Most importantly, we loved the cabin and all it had to offer. The kids (teenagers included) loved the trails, the water and of course the hot tub. The weather was beautiful and we woke up to a snowfall on Sunday morning. Due to the wind, a tree fell across the driveway, blocking our vehicles...the highlight of the trip for the kids was meeting and helping "Mr. Robyn", the groundskeeper, cut and load the wood onto his truck. We shared interesting conversation and it gave the kids a glimpse of his life without electricity (OR a TV)! I wish we could have met him the first day! This was, by far the most fun we have ever had on a vacation; you never had to leave the grounds to enjoy yourself. Outdoor cooking is perfect with all the equipment you can imagine. Thank you, Mr. Nelson for sharing such a beautiful place.
Our family had a wonderful relaxing time. We cooked almost all our meals outside and we spent almost all our time on the covered deck . We hiked up the creek on the rocks and up the trail to one of many fishing holes. I caught my first trout in the creek right by the cabin. The cabin was very comfortable and provided everything we needed. The firepit was a big hit too. We spent time at Buckeye Lake and love the hiking and fishing there. The backroad trip to Banner Elk and Valle Crusis is a must!! Didn't stop at the winery, but that gives us a reason to return soon. The treehouse and outside hot shower are such a plus!! Thanks for sharing this wonderful place. Your family is very blessed to have such an amazing vacation spot. C. Baker -- Fort Mill, SC
