I could sit on the deck all day, look at the water and watch the hummingbirds.
Great place, loved the character of the farmhouse. Huge yard, just really nice. Our dogs and the kids enjoyed hiking the trails. We played games in the yard, built fires and watched movies. A great way to spend the weekend.
super site, view of bay nice deck, fire pit, quaint kitchen of the 50"s
This house is right on the edge of town. It's a cute country farm house with character.
When we arrived, we found we had to make out own beds. Sheets were left out for us to do so. I dont know about you, but when I'm traveling with a family of 6, making 5 beds isn't high on my agenda. The sheets weren't even the right sheets for the beds in some cases. After looking through the cabinets at bedtime, I found some, but not all of the right sheets. We ended up with queen sheets on a twin bed.
There were ants....big ants and little ants...along with cobwebs. It wouldn't have taken long for someone to clean things up a bit.
We did meet the owner who was super nice. He spoke with us for quite awhile and gave is ideas of what we could do that would be family friendly. It was nice to have him close by.
The house is what you expect - an old farmhouse....but there were definitely things that could have been done that would have made our stay a little better.
Sorry about your. Experience , we actually had a rental company last year manage our place and followed suit as they did this with the beds (leave clean bedding on top of bed) as well
My husband, toddler and I stayed here for a few days to get away from the hustle and bustle. The house is exactly what you'd expect from the description - it's an old farmhouse. Complete with all of the quirks and creaks you'd expect with a 100 year-old house.
I'll tell you what we liked:
- the location: you're very close to town but still enough on the outskirts to feel like you are in the country. The walking trails behind the house are pleasant (our dog loved them). There is a lot of wildlife on the property - we saw orioles, bluebirds and even a deer one early morning. You can also see the lake from the deck.
- there's a ton of room. If you have a large group this is the place for you. They also have a lot of supplies from cooking to cleaning to towels, etc.
- the owner is right on the property. He didn't get in our way but we were close enough to feel like we could just walk over if we had a problem.
What we didn't like:
- it was dirty. Bottom line just dirty. We only occupied the first floor so I won't comment on the top floor, but the place hadn't even been vacuumed (and with a toddler you NEED a vacuum). The first floor bathroom still had many remnants from guests before - from the toilet, to beard trimmings on the sink to a leftover bit of soap in the shower. Even the nooks and crannies of the house had cobwebs and (big) spiders. The window sills had dead insects from over the winter. Just yucky.
And yes, I'll admit that I'm bit neurotic when it comes to keeping a clean house but come on! If you want to get away and are paying almost $200 a night for a house, you really don't want to spend the first night you are there cleaning in order to feel like you can relax. Perhaps the owner will read this and clean up a bit more for the next souls that decide this is the right place for them.
Sorry to hear of your experience, my father was in between housekeepers but we have past on the word, our apologizes
Great time with great friends at a great place!
What a great place for friends to gather and get away from it all! Shopping, attractions and nature everywhere! Was nice to have owner on property, just in case!!!
2010 Mystery Trip Gals from Minneapolis
We loved staying at your home. It was just what we were looking for. Eight of the eleven gals didn't know where they were going or where we would be staying and when they saw the house and realized it was ours to use for three days, they couldn't believe it. We loved DC but spending time just sitting on the deck watching the sun come up in the morning and go down in the evening was awesome. We all enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and just enjoying the quiet in the country. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a place to stay when they go to DC. We are all hoping to go back there sometime in the near future and hopefully we will be able to rent this home again.
Just on the outskirts of Sturgeon Bay. Within 2 miles of Potawatomi State Park!!
