Correction on Map...... Old Ferry Road IS a DEAD END... it does not hook up with Bayberry Lane.
Family inherited property. We have a very high standard for its maintenance and improvements. Experiences and memories thru the generations. The present owners live in MA, ME AND OR. Our children played on the same rocks, foraged for crabs and swam until their lips were blue, just as our father before us and his father before him.
Christine Snow purchased this cottage in 1999
Maine is where our hearts and our souls rejoice, we enjoy a healthier lifestyle and receive a spiritual lift when we visit.
The scenery is undeniably gorgeous we have a view of the Penobscot Bay, you can play badmitton, Boce, or Frisbee Entertain outside on the screened in porch, eat on the large outdoor picnic table, swim or launch your kayak on the family beach.
We love it so much we reserve time ourselves. We just want to rent it out to people who will take care of it as if it were their own. Cottage insulated on the outside...inside you can still see the stud construction. The main 'Great room' was originally a 1920's Sears garage kit assembled by our Grandfather (Maine Poet, Wilbert Snow).
As we drove all around this coastal area of Maine, we decided we had THE BEST location! The "campy" cottage was very comfortable and clean. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable with views of the harbor and sunrise!
We walked the shoreline at low tide, collected shells, relaxed on sun warmed rocks and waded in the clear, clean water.
The location was very convenient to several small villages, general stores, used bookstore (wonderful!!) and lobster shacks while still remote enough to enjoy privacy.
The cottage is stocked with lots of movies, games, books, large and small tables, comfy leather couch and gas fireplace which we used several cool nights. There is a clothesline and clothes pens which we used when we washed out a few things as needed.
The screened porch was wonderful to enjoy meals on and view the harbor and lobster boats.
The housekeeper came half way through our stay and changed bed linens and left clean towels and rugs and offered to clean the whole cottage if we wanted.
I want to share some items which could be of importance to some people but they by no means interfered with our stay and enjoyment of the property.
As stated on the web site, there is a tall shower head and not very adjustable (think water in the face for shorter people), a very low toilet and step down kitchen and front bedroom, step up to back bedroom as the cottage is built on a slight rise.
As I stated, these did not interfere at all with our stay and we hope to sometime return; just thought some would find this helpful.
We highly recommend this property and thank Chris for sharing it!
If you are seeking serenity, privacy, peace and quiet, you need to check ouy this getaway. Lupines greeted us along the driveway to the cottage, peonies are about to bloom, lilac trees were already over. The Atlantic Ocean is right outside your door. Green sea glass, shells, sea birds, all at your fingertip. Our favorite place was 3 minutes from the cottage, THE LOBSTER POUND! We made lobster 4 times in our own kitchen (everything u need for making your dinners are provided). Gas fireplace was invaluable due to heavy storms & cool weather. Port Clyde is close by-great German restaurant, Rockport & Camden are only 15 minutes away, great places to visit. Sailboats run out of Camden Harbor, but the Gods were not with us for the weather. The history of the cottage was fasinating! Generations of Snows have lived there. Books concerning the history are at the cottage. Screened porch was great shelter from rain & nighttime bugs that seek your blood-lol. Antiques in Cottage were wonderful history of the folks who inhabited this get-away. Maine charm, that's what it's all about! And Peace away from the hustle & bustle of towns and traffic, but convenient to stores & Dining.
My mom and I have really enjoyed our week-long stays at Chris' cottage the last two summers. The place has everything you need for a comfortable respite away from it all. We could hang out on the lawn or walk a few steps further to our own beach (some terrific sea glass finds). The screened-in porch was a favorite spot to hang out & it has gas fireplace for chilly evenings too. When we wanted to head into town, Rockland is just a few miles up the road and Camden just north of that. Plenty of great places to eat and shopping/cututral things to do as well. Took a few easy 1/2 day trips down to Port Clyde (Marshall Point Lighthouse) & over to Pemaquid Point and Boothbay Harbor. It's just a great spot and is recommended without reservation!
Mid-coast location with the Real Maine Experience: beaches, sunbathing, swimming, antiquing, boating, fishing, hiking or relaxing. Cheap eats or fine dining and shopping in nearby Camden (20 minutes drive) or Rockland (10 minute drive). Best lobster dinner: (Miller's outdoor dining BYOB). Rockland: Home of the North Atlantic Blues Festival (July) and The famous Lobster Festival (Aug). Farnsworth Art Museum (Rockland) and the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Nearby Port-Clyde and Rockland offer ferries to the local islands, including Monhegan Island: home of native artists.
